Bonus Miles

Travelling on company business I unusually took a taxi journey with a colleague (I normally take a bus to the client site and live in a quiet rural location so never take taxi's on a personal basis). To save money on the fare the taxi driver offered that he was going to stop just after a major and busy city centre junction for us to alight rather than continue to the quiet back road we had requested - but we'd need to be quick as we would be obstructing the road.

In my haste to pay, collect receipt and make sure I had everything it didn't occur to me to slide across the back seat and began to cautiously open the OSR door (I didn't exactly throw it open). There wasn't passing traffic, presumably the lights had just been changing, but I manged to just clip the door mirror of a passing car. No body work damage to the passing car, but a big dent in the Mondeo door.... Read more

Hi all,

Thank you for your posts which are all very helpful. To clarify a couple of minor points:

- I think the passing car was quite possibly the first car away from the junction after a change of lights. There wasn't traffic the window immediately prior to starting to open the door.
- The damage was definitely not there when we boarded the taxi
- Talking to the colleague I shared the taxi with, he recalls that we were both unsure about the location for alighting and that the driver had commented along the lines that we would need to be quick.
- Whilst there was damage to the passing vehicle (£51) there were no injuries. Presumably the quoted text goes on to say Injury to Persons or Damage to Property?

If the driver continues to press for monies then yes, great suggestion, I will request to see a copy of his insurance.

Thanks again.

Hi, I've recently been involved in a road traffic collision with another vehicle which also involved damage to a roadsign. The insurance cover for the traffic collision is fine but i've just received a letter from the local council telling me that I have to pay for the damage to their roadsign. Am I covered under my car insurance for these damage payments or will I have to pay for the damaged roadsign out of my own pocket? Can anyone help?

Thanks Read more

  • Agreed. Your insurance covers all third partys, so just give your letter to your insurers. They will deal with it. Sleep easy

I have recently experienced a permenant loss of power at low speeds and all through the rev range. At higher speed and when have momentum the acceleration feels much better but I can't be completely sure of whether it is still down on previous performance.I have self diagnosed it to be the turbo not kicking in but I am very much the novice so may be completely wrong. I have no loss of fuel economy nor any other signs of smoke other then the usual diesel puffs.

It goes in for a service in a weeks time so hopefully they will advise me then but I want to prepare myself for them telling me some bad news. Please help... Read more

Help all focus drivers?

I'm looking to purchase a focus automatic and struggling to decide which engine to go for.

1) 1.6 petrol are very common and well priced even for 2010 & 11 models. However reviews are saying this is underpowered and should be avoided at all costs?

2) 2.0 petrol has more grunt than the 1.6 but at the expense of mpg And i believe uses the same four speed autobox?

3) 2.0 TDcI has plenty of grunt, powershift autobox and better mpg. However these tend to be about £3-4K premium on the price.

I'll probably being doing 10K miles per annum and a mix of A-roads and motorway driving.

Any advice would be appreciated

Not sure it's helpful but we really like our 10yr old 1.6 Zetec Focus estate auto. This engine size seems just right for the car - the auto responds v quickly on kickdown and it's happy at, er, normal motorway speeds! Good economy as well - about 40mpg.

For those that may be interested, I noticed whilst in ASDA this morning that they are running their 5 litre of own brand oil for £10 again. They are also doing 2.5 litres of concentrated screen wash, which is normally £1.95 a time, on a 3 for £3 deal. Read more

Just been to look at one of these, well finished, up tp the quality of the mg6, didn't get a test drive as licence not with me. toyota engines, impressed with drivers seating, but not much space behind, rear seatback almost vertical, boot ok for shopping but not much more, at 6000 ish for the 1.3 would definitely consider for tootling around town. saw some of the other models too, very interesting, The Chinese ARE coming,

Not sorry to say but prefer the veelux to the punto, clio, peugot 208 and the overpriced toyota auris, much more room than a corsa, seating position better than an astra!
