I accidently put 6 litres of unleaded in the tank than filled it up with 50 litres of diesel. I drove 55 miles motorway home. The car seems to drive fine - however, do you think it's safe to continue to drive or should I have the tank drained tomorrow? If so, should we take over 50% out or do you think it should be completely drained? Would adding lubricant make a difference? Read more

Keep er lit, just top up sooner after 30 miles to dilute the petrol even more. Some petrol in the diesel every so often is good for the injectors Ans gets rid or carbon build up. Must through a litre or so into me C6

On the way home down the M6 and M1 on Friday I spotted two Passats and one Golf - all 57-58 reg on the hard-shoulder – presumably fuel injector failures? The only other breakdown I spotted was a Peugeot 306 - although I should probably discount 10+ year old cars from the stats. On the way up this morning I thought I'd see if this was a coincidence - amazingly I spotted another two Passats and one Golf! The only other breakdown was a BMW 3 series – a full-house for the Germans.

Statistically the breakdown rate for the VWs is breathtaking - not a single "nasty" Ford or Vauxhall stranded its owner during my journey time - I shall keep my little tally going to see if it was just a remarkable coincidence... Read more

The car was actually UNreliable - wipers would operate at random, the car would regularly turn itself off at 70mph on the motorway (actually, not the big deal people often make of it),

But Sid, your wife and children could have been killed!...

I'll try and condense this as much as I can without missing out any important facts, but its the strangest series of events I've ever heard about and am seriously hoping someone can help give me some pointers

The insurance problem is actually happening to a friend, but he struggles to stay calm when talking to people about it so he asked if I would try and make some headway for him... Read more

You'll have a problem getting information as you are not the person concerned. I keep hitting this as I'm deaf, and vertually no-one official will accept even my brother's words.

If the pair of you can go to a local DVLA office, I think that's a good start as they are usually very helpful. Sounds like either the DLVA records are needed, or corrections applied to them. Get the local office on your side - it's much easier that way....

The problem is exactly as you describe it - there are no quality parts any more. They're mostly Chinese rubbish built down to a price - that's what the consumer asked for and that's what he got..

We bought the car from a main dealer with full service history. Soon after purchse we experinced flat spots on acceleration and losing power at high speed. Several times limped home on safe mode.
Dealer diagnosed faulty coil, duly replaced. Fault reoccurred.
Then diagnosed faulty ECU. Again replaced. Fault reoccurred.

Eventually after several more recoveries dealer offered to keep car for a few days and let mechanic drive home. No fault first few times. After 3 days fault appeared.... Read more

Hi All I have a mondeo tdci which my wife has been using regularly for the past 2 years with no problems then 2 weeks ago she parked it up outside the house next morning it would not start checked for fuel full tank looked for any leaks and could see nothing, checked the forums & saw that the cam sensors fail so bought one of these and a crank sensor and fitted both. I must admit that I did change the fuel filter at the start of my fault finding but as I have a fast flow of diesel coming out of the return pipe when it is removed I presume that the pump is working and most of the air would be out. I would appreciate any help or advise any member might be able to give me. Thanks in antisipation Chris Read more

Any flashing coil or check engine lights? You might want to invest in a f-super code reader. Hi ddr, no there are no flashig coil or check lights except when battery is nearly flat then coil light starts to flash but when jump start put on to battery is OK

Ok, going to have a look at that LPG Jag fell through as it was sold. I have spotted a Nissan 300ZX circa 1988 for sale; they chap has offered me a decent price but it needs a bit of work doing. Anyone ever owned/driven/scrapped(!!) one? The 3.0L V6 is calling me... Read more
