£30,000................I don't think so!

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - Bobbin Threadbare

£30k? Looks like one of those late 90s Spiders, on Autotrader for under £2000!

It's where all Alfas belong..:-)

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - unthrottled

I thought Alfas belonged in the 'spares or repair' section.

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - Avant

Some lazy journalist who wouldn't know an Alfa from a Nissan Micra probably looked at the price of the more recent Spider - about £30k for the V6.

It's possible that the owner thought that, by allowing it to be washed out to sea, he'd get more for the ageing rustbucket on the insurance than by trying to flog it.

Avant, latter day Alfas don't rust like their early counterparts. :)

Where's 159man...? Haven't seen him about for a while. Come and defend your beloved Alfas! They are good looking cars. If you had one and it kept breaking down at least it'd be a pleasant sight, sitting there on your driveway.

Avant, latter day Alfas don't rust like their early counterparts. :)

Correct; they are now up to 1960 Datsun standards :)

Is the spyder a good alternative to an MGB Roadster??

Is the spyder a good alternative to an MGB Roadster??

Well an MGB will rust like it's going out of fashion so any Alfa should be a suitable substitute.....:-)

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - expatsFL

bit of a dips*** answer there wasnt it.

Nearly every MGB on th roads today is 30+ years old, so they are rust free ish arent that smart a***. The ? I posed was a comparo between a clean rust free MGB and a spyder for driving flies in yer teeth fun. Jeez

My mum bought a French blue 120Y estate from the dealer in Ipswich. Used every day it did 120K miles with zero problems except one new exhaust and one clutch and one battery. Still going strong she sold it and the other owner got another 60K out of it before selling it on. No rust and everything just worked. Dull as dishwater but reliable. Carried lots of stuff we went everywhere in that car.

Given that it performed quite reasonably and only had a very small engine it must have been very light indeed. Not trendy but great basic transport.

One less Alfa on the roads is one more reason to celebrate i say.

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - LikedDrivingOnce

Them's strong words jamie. Personally, I like Alfas, but your feelings may be quite understandable.Did you have a horrible ownership experience or something?

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - jamie745

Not at all. Ive never owned an Alfa. But i am blessed with the gift of sight and to me, that "iconic" front of an Alfa is rather disgusting, but what annoys me the most about Alfa Romeo's is the people who buy them. Because they buy a car which is mechanically inferior in every way to even the rest of the things its parent group makes, looks horrible but is dressed up as creativity, passion, individuality and all the other ridiculous buzzwords and cliche's they use, and essentially say they know they've bought a rubbish carbut they bought it for the "Italian soul."

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - 475TBJ

jamie, you say Alfas look horrible, yet I believe you have a Jag S-TYPE. You need a trip to an optician's, young man. Alfas are not rubbish.

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - jamie745

You are correct. And a thoroughly lovely car it is too. Under appreciated is how i'd describe the S Type. A proper car. Unfortunatley with Alfa's they can look nice until you see the front of them. Bang side on they look ok.

Alfa Romeo Spider - Tight Alfa owner - richardcroft

Virtually every Alfa looks better than an S-type. The design of this car was compromised by the Lincoln whose platform it shared. Most Alfas look superb from any angle, most so from the front.
