Bought this marvellous car with Honret John's advice from the Telegraph pages. Not a thing wrong with it until now and even so it is not the car itself. My granddaughter posted a cd in to the player, with one already there! It does not function now and the Honda dealer is saying a replacement may be up to £1000.We live in Nottingham, Honest John or anyone any ideas for a reasonable replacement service, in this area, please? Splendid news! Thanks for the update-very frustrating when it's forgotten because no one learns anything.
Should I buy this car?
Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with this.
I have just bid for and won a car on ebay - £705 for a great condition Saab 9-3 2.0T 2002.
I went with the cash last night to see the car and it looked and sounded good, but I had a query with the V5C and wanted to check it out before making an expensive mistake.
The guy selling the car is not the registered keeper on the V5C and section 9 is missing.
He claims that he bought the car 2 months ago from a friend for £1,000 but was unable to keep up with the insurance payments, was very sick and got made redundant and so has decided to sell it!
He says he is not a motor dealer and that his friend isn't either. He does not know the registered keeper listed and is not sure how his friend came about owning the vehicle.
He does not have any bill of sale from his friend to prove how the car came into his possession.
I understand section 9 is for sales to a motor trader, which leads me to conclude that the original registered keeper sold it to a motor trader - and the V5C has then been passed from owner to owner without anyone re-registering the car.
He offered to sign section 8 as if he was the registered keeper - but this sounds potentially fraudulent. He also offered to write me a bill of sale/letter to DVLA....but that's no good unless he does actually own the car.
Everything else seems fine - we did a quick check on the car (via Cartextcheck.co.uk) and it has no stolen record and has not been scrapped or been subject to a total loss claim. The VIN numbers also match the V5C.
Is there any way of proving who actually owns the car and whether he can legitimately sell it to me?
Am I right in thinking it all sounds a little dodgy? He has no history as a seller on eBay either - this was his first sale.... Read more
It has obviously passed through the trade at some point and subsequent owners have not registered it in their name. Quite common when people don't intend to keep a car long or are doing a bit of "private" trading on the side. You shouldn't have any trouble taxing it or regsitering it.
Some cars stay "in the trade" for years. If you buy from a trader you never get to see Section 9 (come to think of it, neither does the trader)....
Now look here you chaps.
Why is it so expensive to bring in a new car from the USA? Their prices are on the floor, and you don't pay their tax. Yes yes I know you have to pay shipping, VAT and the work to get it approved for our roads, but importing firms seem to do the sums and add an extra zero. Is it worth going over and sorting it myself? I want a Ford Crown Victoria. In black please.... Read more

Hi all,
My wife and I ordered a Skoda yeti in January and as part of that, we read the brochure, compared it to the owners manual which was online and ordered it with an Off Road button. This was because the brochure says "it will...hold the car still on a hill start" under the paragraph describing the "Off Road Button". On the page setting out the specific functions of the button, it describes the first as "Uphill Start Assist" which in the owners manual, explains this is where the brakes are actuated on an incline. Couldn't be clearer.... Read more
OK, so this post is over 2 years out of date.
This years brochure quotes brakes hold for approx 2 seconds, and then car rolls back. That ain't very long and could be as little as 1 second depending on the angle of slope....
I am thinking of buying a secondhand car from Trade Sales of Slough. Prices and cars look good. Anyone had any experiences, good or bad, here. I understand the guarentee is 28 days. Is that so, and under UK law should it not be more? Read more
Bought a few cars over the years for myself and friends, as someone else said, just buy the car, you are covered under sale of goods act for 6 months, but if there is service history and balance of manufacturers warranty don't worry. Once i took their finance as they beat what i would pay via personal loan. Yes overall, would recommend them, but surprised to hear how much they've shrunk. Alternative cargiant white city, but no experience of them, but again car + admin fee, not valeted, not sevriced and plenty of high milers. Good luck!
Hi
My Mazda6 has just failed MOT due to wheel bearing needs replacing, I need to use a garage I have not used before due to my normal independant garage is booked up this week, Can anybody give me a rough idea how much it sholud cost to replace the front wheel bearing and is it true i should change both sides at the same time.... however I gather that front bearings are harder to change than those in rear drums
Yup. Even with a bearing puller, it can be a swine to get the bearing out of the hub.
12 months ago my son used a comparison site for car insurance. He duly took out the insurance with one of the 6 cheapest quotes provided.
A year later he received his renewal and the premium had risen by 50% so he did another comparison search and managed to get a quote much cheaper. He contacted the original insurer to inform them that he would not be renewing with them. They asked whether they could try and find a cheaper quote with them and he said "yes". This is where the problem started. They went through his details for him to confirm and when they asked for driving licence type, he said "Full". They replied "That will be another £2000 you owe us". (Not going to give actual fugure for obvious reasons, but it was near the firure quoted). Apparently when he had entered his details in the original comparison search, he had accidently entered that he had a provisional licence rather than the Full one that he had held for 1 year. The original policy has now expired and he's on his new one. The previous insurer has since contacted him to say that he owes a smaller amount (still well in excess of £1000) as they were discounting the commission and service charge. On the day his new policy started he received a letter from the previous insurer stating that the adjustment premium (i.e. the amount he owed) had been paid in full. A week later another arrives saying that they still have not received the adjustment premium which must be paid in the next 7 days. I am of the opinion that, although he accidently entered incorrect details and he requested cover for a provisional driving licence, that is the cover that his insurer quoted for and was happy to provide. He did not set out to deceive anyone and should he have had to make a claim during those 12 months (thankfully he didn't), he would not have been covered. Anyone had a similar experience or can advise where we stand from a legal point? Thanks. Read more

Has anyone ever had this problem. When heater blowers are on (hot or cold setting) the air conditioning comes on. My car is still within the garage 3 month warranty so need to know whether to sort it out or if its supposed to happen!! I can't think its normal for air conditioning to come on when heater is blowing. If its an electrical fault and I don't get it sorted it could end up costing hundreds I guess. Any advice appreciated :) Read more
Thanks for the advice

I own a beautiful honda jazz 2003 from new. I have had a problem(only in summer) that the cd would get stuck and the buttons would not be functional. All I do is
take a white sheet of paper and fold it half the size of cd and insert inside the cd player....
