On the road i live on parking is very limited and over the last couple of months it has been made worse due to the fact that there is someone basically using the main road as a car sales pitch. It started with one car at a time, Now there can be 3 cars parked on my road at a time. He is parking cars with for sale sings & all the details in the window, the cars stay for about a week then get swapped around with a different one if it doesent get sold, there are at least 10 cars for sale around the rest of the town at the moment. I get the feeling that the seller is a trader pretending to be a private seller. There are curently 2 cars on the road outside my house, both the sinage inside the cars have the same handwriting but different mobile numbers on them. The cars are always taxed & according to the motor insurance database they are insured. Is there anything i can do about this ? what would legally make him a trader ? if there is nothing i can do about it I would at least want to make sure that he is a proper trader paying tax etc.
Hi,
Does anyone know what may cause this ? The glow plug light comes on and there is a lack of power - switch it off and restart and it seems to be ok for a while. It happens a lot when the car has just started but also happens a couple of times a week while driving.... Read more
Got a diagnostic check and showing no error codes.
Chap at the garage says it just needs a good thrash up the motorway now and then as it's currently only being used for short journeys.
Hi everyone. Sorry to keep banging on about this but I'm still having problems with my car, its stuggish until the turbo kicks in. I bought the car in December and have been tinkering with it since trying to solve the problem. So far I have replaced the MAF, MAP sensor on the intercooler, air filter, oil filter and oil and cleaned out the DPF. All of this has improved the performance but its still slow! I'm all out of ideas now, has anyone else got any suggestions? I have a Peugeot planet diagnostic and the engine is no longer reporting any faults, is there anything I can test using the diagnostic? Difficult to diagnose yours but here is my experiance.

Information or thoughts would be most welcome.
I have a 2005 Shogun 3.2 diesel with 32000 miles only on the clock. Apart from the usual diesel sound I am experiencing a lighter pitch noise/rattle. Only heard under a light load and not apparent when revving in neutral.... Read more

I bought a second-hand A4 1.9 TDI and noticed a burning smell shortly after purchase which became worse. I had this checked by two garages and they said that the clutch was burnt. I had the clutch replaced and shortly thereafter noticed that the smell has returned though it is not as strong as before. The garage who replaced it says that it will take some time and driving before the smell goes. Is it true that the burnt clutch smell does not completely vanish even after replacing the clutch? Or could it be that there is some other problem with the car? Read more
What ever floats your boat.
I found this information on the DPF systems fitted to the Jaguar 2.7 V6 diesels, it's incredibly detailed and covers issues including active & passive regenerations, oil dilution and more. The general principles apply to any coated DPF system (i.e. ones that don't use a liquid catalyst additive.

I also suggested that a simple meter and button to start a manual regen when soot level approached/reached a certain level, again my dealer agreed with one proviso, he suggests that a good proportion of drivers do not read the handbook (really) and would simply ignore the meter with worse consequences than the automated system.
Far too good an idea that, you the driver know you are embarking on a long fast run, but the next three weeks the car will be city bound.
Always there can be a default to auto regen for those who haven't a clue and care less.
Good job you don't work for the car makers they'd soon show you the door coming up with sensible stuff like that..:-)
are these gearbox's reliable? i have read a few horror stories about them, i am looking at getting a 1.6 vvt easytronic but not sure about a semi automatic,i have only driven manual boxes and will probably never use the auto part, does the gearbox need regular maintanence and is it a diy job as i like to do all the routine servicing myself.
All very fascinating, but it doesn't alter the fact that it is a conventional manual gearbox which uses electronic actuators to operate the clutch and to change gear. As I said earlier, all the more to go wrong. I have worked on and driven a few of these, and personally I wouldn't have one if I was given it.....
I have a 52 plate Boxster 3.2s with 45k on the clock, i have owned it for 3 years, but do less tha 6k a year and by no means 'thrash' it! I started it and noticed that the radiator was blowing cold air, even when on hot. Stopping the car and checking the resevoir I noticed it was very low on water and under a lot of pressure. Took the car to my local garage and they said they'd look at it. about 3 weeks later I got a phone call saying the head gasket had gone, which I was expecting, but was surprised given the mileage of the engine.
We discussed costs and the way ahead and was told that they could replace the gaskets and do some engine work which would fix the problem for £2000. I agreed but stated that this was the upper limit of my budget and not to conduct any work above this. Eventually they phoned back saying that they were rebuilding the car and it should be ready at the end of the week. By this point it has been in the garage for nearly 3 months, the mechanic who was a specialist on these engines was away/sick a lot, and as they were supposedly doing the work cheaply, I didnt hassle, but did chase up each week, and tell them it was starting to get slightly ridiculous!
So went in to collect my car, only to find the engine on pieces on the workshop floor. Speaking to the garage they told me that the head gasket replacement hadnt fixed the problem and that they suspect it is something deeper in the engine. They gave a number of options such as continuing to investigate or replacing the engine for a reconditioned one (their preferred option). They quoted me £3500 for another engine with a 2 year warranty on it, they couldnt quote me for the investigative work as they didnt know how long it would take.... Given their speedy work so far, I would like to have the car back before its an antique!
So should I go for the reconditioned engine? Does that seem a reasonable price? They are expecting me to pay the original bill on top, is this reasonable considering they didnt fix what they told me was the problem?
Any advice would be gratefully received as im unfortunatly not made of money and starting to panic!! Read more
Do you have the original quote in writing? If not, there's probably not a lot you can do, try calling trading standards & a proper Porsche garage for a reconditioned engine quote to compare.
I know this is of no use to you but you should have gone to a branded porsche dealer in the first place. Anything complicated/expensive should not be put in the hands of people that take 3 months to diagnose the wrong fault. They may be lying to you and there's been nothing serious wrong with the car all along....

I thought the rules were stricter for traders - as the dealer clearly is.
