Hi, Can anyone help me please.
I'm trying to change the cambelt on my Fiesta 1.4 Petrol 107,500 Miles :-(

Have got the belt kit so have all part I need but can not get the Crankbolt to move, two of my mates have tried, one with a Snap-On 18v Impact Gun ( resulting in a bent extention bar) and the other with an Air-Gun with 1000lb/ft torque and still not budging , I'm stuck as what to do next ( short of attacking it with a sledge hammer lol)
Thanks Patrick Read more

Had this problem many times with focus and fiesta. Just sit with a blow torch and heat the bolt, then use impact gun. Keep repeating this process and it will come free. Dont attempt to get the bolt too hot as too much heat can damage the pulley. Also a few belts inward with a copper mallet on the bolt will help to crack the threadlock on the bolt.

Apologies to the editorial team if this topic is in entirely the wrong place, but I didnt know where to put it.

My HGV Class 2 licence expired in January 2010, at the age of 55. I know I will need a medical to renew it and I'm pretty sure I wont need to take any form of retest, but does anyone know the procedure for renewal when an HGV licence has lapsed?... Read more

I passed an LGV C in 1992. Got promoted in "the job" and didn't drive for nearly 15 years on shouts. At 45 I had an option to renew. I didn't bother. Then this year, 47, I went into Command Support and needed to renew my licence to drive. All I did was have a medical, sent that paperwork off with my licence. I got a shiney new updated photocard. Unless you have any medical problems. In that case there may be some delay getting it back.

At under 2500 revs my X-Trail lacks power and blows out black smoke, above 2500 revs when the turbo kicks in it drives normally. When reving the engine whilst stationary the turbo seems to be spinning all the time, even from low revs, but while moving it doesn't seem to get any turbo boost until 2500 revs. I have to change down into a low gear before the car will gather speed, a friend in the motor trade drove the car today and said I'm expecting too much from it, small engine, big car etc but in a modern vehicle surely I shouldn't have to drive around it's shortcomings?

Has anyone experienced a similar problem or am I expecting too much from the car?... Read more

As already stated the first thing to look at is the EGR valve. I had exactly the same problem and fixed it cleaning the EGR valve as explained on this website

My son has been experiencing rough running at tickover, we took it to the garage and their scanner indicated that the pre-cat lambda sensor reading was all over the scale, they replaced the sensor but this did not improve things the readings were still way out, so they got another in in case this one was faulty and the same has happened again. has anyone experienced this problem that can help us sort it out.

Thanks Burge Read more

That's what I assumed-but newer cars use fully sequential ignition ie one coil per cylinder.

Few days ago I wake up in the morning start my engine, went to work with my passat 2006 1.9 (engine BKC)TDI estate , after about 10 miles, my dashboard quickly flash I lost the power and the engine stops. After that I can't start the engine at all, I get towed to vw centre, they made diagnostic with scanner didn't find any false only 1 glow plug not working (i do believe it not big effect on my problem), later they made wiring loom and they advise me to change the turbo, but they not guarantee that after changing turbo the engine will start, also i don't believe that turbo not working because before the engine stops it works perfect. I'd made few investigation's, check cam-belt, fuel pump so on everything is working, I' tried atoday to start engine, few times it's started for the 5 sec, and cut again. I'm lost don't know what to do, also considering to change engine speed sensor, what do you think, or any helpful options will be appreciated, many thank you Read more

Which injectors do you have. If they are the new piezo type and one has failed the car will shut down. Ring your dealer with the VIN number and ask them. Regards Peter

Looking to change my car and fancied something with a bit of power and slightly sporty.

Have seen a 3 year old 407 Coupe 2.7 V6 HDi Sport Auto for sale.... Read more

I test drove a 407 Coupe (3.0 V6) last year and it was a lovely car, buckets of space inside, comfortable, nice to drive but its no sports car. Its very heavy and the handling is heavy also, and the controls are a bit fiddly but overall its pretty good, a Merc CLK is more common than Lonsdale tracksuits in the Essex area and as a result the 407 stands out.

Hi there,

My other half and I are due to be having a baby in October and so we're looking at getting a "family car". I'm currently in the process of trying to sell my 07 Honda Civic 1.4 Auto (damn i-shift gearbox, why couldn't Honda have used the same CVT from the Jazz?!) which should leave me with enough money for a 2/3 year old car.

Due to personal circumstances I only have an auto license and like the look of either a 1.6 Ford Focus estate or a 2.0 Ford C-Max.

Simple question; which would you all go for, given the choice?

Yes but there's 20% obtainable off an equivalent Ford with a bit of bargaining which makes it roughly same as or less expensive than a Korean equivalents and arguably a much better car unless you place an inordinately high value on a long manufacturer warranty that will cost you dear at the dealer's service department.

My 2006 Mondeo tdci - 74k - has a warm/hot starting problem but starts and runs perfectly when cold. However when warm/hot on turning the engine it fires as if on one cylinder, makes a heavy knocking (external as distinct from within engine - maybe exhaust) rev counter barely registers but after about 5 seconds the engine picks up and then runs normally. This occurs regardless of whether the clutch pedal is depressed or not and no smoke is emitted. Any ideas? Your thoughts would be gratefullly received! Read more

Its quite a time ago but I thought you might be interested in an update. Started with your advice with a new fuel filter - unfortunately this didn't cure the problem and as the problem was subject to a warranty claim the whole matter dragged on but eventually after main dealers diagnostics did not show any fault an upload of the latest software cured my problem. Anyway thanks for your input.

Hi

I'm trying to help a friend fix her 206 1.4 which is clearly not firing on all cylinders. She has taken it to a mechanic before I got involved who replaced the coil pack but this made no difference. I guess that I can now rule this out and move onto the injectors but I'm not sure how to manually check these. Is it is a case of unplug them one by one while the engine is running and listen for a change in the engine note, or no change in the engine note if that makes sense!... Read more

Amazing. Had the exact same symptoms, but initially thought it was faulty coil pack or spark plugs. On one of ijnektorene showed the ohmmeteret infinite, but the three measured between 14 and 15 ohms.

Thank you so much Railroad, you saved my day.

Hi, I have just purchased a 206 1.4 HDI SW with 85K on the clock. Typically when i collected the car it was on empty, I put 5 litres in which did not even register on the fuel guage, I drove 5 miles down the road and filled it to the brim with another 40 litres (strange as according the handbook it has a 50 litre tank???) I drove home (about 40 miles and the needle did not move off full, later in the day I drove 5 miles and the guage dropped to 3/4 full. If the guage is accurate this means I have used 2.5 gallons to do 45 miles, about 18mpg. The reason I bought this was for economy!!!! I have no idea where to start, the car runs fine, starts fine. I am worried now in case I have bought a lemon. Any advice woud be appreciated. Thanks Read more

Or take it for a run in which you don't use the brakes much and (gingerly touch the wheels and discs when you stop. The latter should be cool, the former only warm. If the discs are roasting hot, the pads are binding.

I doubt there is much wrong with the gauge. Like I said, the tank is an irregular shape and moulded around the floorpan. The progress of the needle probably won't follow the propoprtion of the tank that is full. It's really just to indicate if the tank is full or empty!
