Hi,

Have a real headache here. 1999 Citroen C15D RHD 1769cc van. On journey, suddenly van loses all power and rolls to halt on country road. Try starting it , nothing!.... Read more

Thanks Peter.

I will have a look at your suggestion. I haven't got a circuit diagram for it ,but I can test through the circuits with my voltmeter. There are other wires coming directly off the battery lead. I think the van has had electrical issues before I bought it 18 months ago. However , it hasn't given me any problems until now....

I just scrubbed the Mazda, which includes washing the wheels. Paintwork is waxed, but the alloys still look crap in comparison (also the previous owner didn't exactly look after them). Does anyone have any particular kind of goo they like to use to shine their car wheels up? Read more

Until I retired two years ago, I had a round journey to work of some 90 miles a day. Now I don't go anywhere much. I wanted to change my car. I could have gone for something elderley, but I thought I'd have a bit of fun and got a Ford Puma. I know this may not have been the most sensible thing to do, but I did it anyway. As I read the Honest John column every week, I know that he doesn't like us boring people who only do little journeys. My question is, how best to drive this lovely car? A quick whack up the motorway once a week? Extra servicing? Winnie the Puma deserves to be well treated. Read more

make sure it's fully warmed up then give it a quick blast on the motorway and it should be fine, as said above it's just a rebodied Fiesta so you shouldn't have too many troubles.

18 months agon i had the headgasket fixed on my Vectra B "S" reg. On the advise of the garage i also had a new water pump fitted and the cam belt changed.

The cam belt snapped on the motorway this week when i was doing about 60 so i expect a fair bit of damage.... Read more

Well I had a 52 plate LX and it took 4L if I recall. You can type your registration into Castrol's website and it will tell you the exact amount (or the make, model and year if you're shy).

Theory is that it's in the boot of your car so you don't need to charlie about getting it in or on the car. Or take on bus, train etc. The Brompton gets best reviews and is made here, and about £760 for a 3 speed hub, mate bought a Mezzo too difficult to fold, use etc. Ideal to park and ride, and ok for enjoyment of the city centre, parks, canal towpaths etc. It will either result in more cycling being done or be another gadget that doesn't get used 'cos not as comfy as a full size front susp mountain bike. Has anyone taken the plunge? Read more

...Can't understand where they got the silly price for the (winning) Brompton, 3spd hub about £750 at Evans...

The tested bike was the lightweight steel/titanium frame Brompton....

Not a biker, but that Triumph Scrambler looks retro-gorgeous. There's a Jack Lilley version matt black and sort of Army green that looks nicer still. But I'm not allowed. On the plus side my Giant Yukon hardtail mountain bike has 19 useable gears, cheaper to run and keeps me fit. Also £6,629 cheaper. Read more

A friend put his wife through the CBT when she wasn't to keen on him getting a bike again. Now they are down to one car, and have a Pan America for long journeys/touring (she pillions on this) and a 125 Honda which she mainly uses for local running around.

It is nearing time for my annual gamble. My tank is now down to 1/10 full, we are very unlikely to use any more oil until autumn as it is solely for heating and a little for hot water, so I am not desperate..

There seems to be a trend that the oil price is falling, heating oil about 5p per litre since the last time I checked, so the gamble is:... Read more

I think everyone who uses oil is out in the sticks!

My dad used to have this dilemma every year. Trying to catch the nadir of a market is an elusive skill. Really, it's a question of whether the oil price will carry on falling. I reckon anything below $80/barrell is pretty good nowadays.
