I have a 2010 XF 3.0 Diesel Auto. from new, just had second service at 32,000 miles, I was told the pads were 80% worn and should be replaced but also the discs were pitted and needed replacing too. Never replaced discs after 32,000 miles before, is this normal? Read more
Starting another 'spotted' thread. The last one got quite big.
On my way out last night, I saw what I believe was an Austin 7. It was dark green, open topped. The guy driving it had 'Biggles' goggles on. Read more
Who said i needed to be drunk to make an inappropriate remark?
Some wag once wrote in HJ section of Telegraph suggesting toothpaste to clean windscreens and I was dumb enough to try it (not with a toothbrush though). HJ's slot has over the years repeated tips for car body wash+wax and favoured (best?) brand, but little or on the most important bit - the windscreen. Household windowlene and green spray glass cleaner cleared the dirt and film inside and out but didn't last or water-repel. Tried Halfords various 'glass cleaners' and then 'glass treatments'. This worked. But applying a rain repellent/treatment is a bit of a faff, espec after cleaning car and glass, or just glass. The Holy Grail is now achieved and a few of the major players now have an easy to use, spray on Glass 'Cleaner + Rain Repellent'. And no, this isn't a marketing slot. Probably all made in same factory but Turtlewax Ice 2in1 is good. But my fave for ease of use is RainX 2in1. Now I wouldn't suggest this on public roads, so a disused airfield is ok, but at speeds of 35/40mph+ rain just beads away leaving clear visibility, you almost don't need wipers. Works on all front, side, rear glass and mirrors. Any hints or tips welcomed. These are about £7 bottle but last ages. Read more
Or the wipers possibly? Never noticed smearing but change blades 6-12monthly. Worth wiping the blades smoothly down length pressing both sides using rainx/other on a sponge cloth. The dirt, film and/old oxidised rubber thus removed is impressive. Or maybe I need to get out a bit more, p'raps for a walk over't mo'or.youtu.be/wvKriR46ERE

You may want to check forums like Pepipoo. There is a post from a couple of years ago by someone unhappy about Midway Car Parks:
Hi, I know most of the problems with these are when the pressure is too low due to blocked pipes etc, but does anyone know how I can reduce the force of the screen wash jet on one side of my windscreen?
It used to be ok but has actually got too strong and so most of the water goes over the top of the screen! In the past my garage has been able to adjust it but they have now closed so am not sure how it is done. Does anyone know?... Read more
The OP says that one side is stronger than the other, this suggests that one side is blocked passing all the pressure through to the other jet, it requires unblocking not adjustment.
Same procedure tho', use a pin to unblock the low pressure jet and the high pressure one should not go over the roof when both sides are equal....
had a small bump in car park agreed to leave it as no real damage.what would happen if i report it to police within 24 hours as we didnt exchange detials Read more
Dan - is this the same bump as in the other thread? If so, why are there two threads?
I'll leave it for the moment in case there's a reason for it (or two different bumps) - otherwise I'll close one of them off to avoid confusion.
Had the check brake pad warning message come up on dash today.
and am wondering how easy a job is it to replace the front and rear pads?... Read more

Hello everyone!
My family and I are moving to Bosnia for a year and we are exploring the option of taking a car with us (looking at upgrading our current car). I am just wondering if anyone on this forum has taken a UK car to Bosnia and what they have done for car insurance. Thanks! Read more
Although the AA have been unable to help me in the past, they have found me insurance with Royal Sun Alliance who will issue a Green Card for both Bosnia and Montenegro.
Is there anyone here who is an autmatic transmission specialist advise which fluid I should use for a ATF change on a 2.5 Legacy 2004 Model (4speed auto/tiptronic)
I was going to have the fluid/filter chanegd next time my local garage service the car - I was advised by the main dealer I bought he vehcile from that regular fluid changes were advised to keep the box/awd system working.... Read more
That's probably newer - I've not bought any for some time - when you're doing a fluid change you'll only get about 3 litres out, not the full 9 litres so make sure you don'tb overfill afterwards.

A 2010 car that has covered 32k miles in that short space of time must have spent most of its life on the motorway where brakes on a mile for mile basis are used the least.
80% worn just does not sound right....
