The baffles in my Madza6 have started to get noisy, exhaust looks in good condition. Would the noisy baffles make the car use more petrol and lose power and would it affect the MOT coming up soon.

Is this going to make much difference?... Read more
I wouldnt mind if once in a while they actually resurfaced a road instead of just pouring crap on it and getting us to smooth it down for them which in the end makes no difference at all.
What say you to the idea of a Great Britain football team? Could it work? Rugby League does it, but Union does not.
Too much studying!! Says you, Captain Geek. :-P
Hi All,
I have an N Reg (1995) Cavalier SRi 16 valve. She is running a bit rough atm and is dying every now and then. The revs will suddenly drop and if you don't nail the throttle she just cuts out. The ECU light has come on, it does this sometimes but has normally reset itself next time you turn the engine on.... Read more
iether in the inner wing on the N/side and that is not an EOBD connection or in the fuse box by the drivers knee.
Did it run rough before the plugs were fitted ?
These engines do not like champion plugs if thats whats fitted ! they cause too much electrical noise unedr the bonnet and will often throw up air flow meter fault !
Ok, so I have seen a car that will suit my immediate needs. I am aware of SOGA so this is kind of a moot point. I asked about warranty and as per most indie dealers the seller has stated 3 months warranty. However, he has stipulated 3 months parts OR labour.
Is he wanting to have the cake and eat it?... Read more
When I spoke to him this afternoon I stated that it would have to be parts AND labour in order for me to proceed. He agreed to this immediately without any protestation.
It is a small dealer in a local place for local people. He does not know me, but I fortunately know a few people who know him - so I will be verifying his virtuosity before any of my hard earned reaches his no doubt very long pockets....

My two children both at that age for driving. Son 18 passed test, daughter 17 still learning. When getting Insurance quotes from comparison web sites for my son to drive his mother's car as named driver, £2200 plus. Mostly all quotes in that region. So when I tweaked the online forms a little and resubmitted I was attracted to a policy for £1400. Amazing how suddenly I'm now thinking I've got a bargain! Quick chat on phone direct, just to make sure I had given all details correctly, so as to make absolutely sure before I cancelled wife's renewal. Done that before, having told existing Insurer I had found cheaper Insurance only to find out later I hadn't. Grovelling phone call back by me to annoyed Insurer, asking if he could renew it after all!
Anyway, I took out this policy and paid £1400 on card and duly got documents in post, fantastic, what more could you want. However looking through all bumph, it appears that this Insurance is via a 'Broker' and is with Aviva. No problem with that, but they had mistakenly included the 'price' the Broker pays Aviva for this policy' £700..........half what I was paying the Broker, a 100% mark up.... Read more
P/exd a car in February and the garage insisted I hand in my car tax disc, I P/exd my other car in March and the dealer there said that I would / should take the disc myself to get a refund - only the person on the V5 could get a refund and that had been the case since the begining of the year.
Can anyone help?... Read more
The dealer is correct, the rules changed two or three years ago.
Only the registered keeper can reclaim the unexpired portion of a road fund licence....
Was now starting to look at newish cars (still under warranty) for local up to 50 mile daily commute plus occasional long distance dash. trying to work out how to get best crash protection in case of impact at motorway speeds and reasonable performance/economy. maximun size ceed/focus class. have already excluded new astra because of driving position for me. also, She won't have anything italian spanish or french, likes Toyota, but expensive and 30 miles to a dealer for servicing. Mazdas seem to be slightly better copies of equivalent fords, but expensive too. Astra fails because at 6'2" there is NO Room for even a child behind me! most of the time will be 2 of us but occasionally 4. Vw group cars excluded because of all the issues regarding customer services plus distance to dealer! BMW excluded because rwd and distance to dealer. At the end of the day has left us with Kia, but dealer is not rated highly locally. After looking in showrooms for several weeks, being unable to get test drives when convient for both of us and visited the forums of most of what we have looked at have decided to stick with current car, and abandoned getting a second one.
