Can you fix a Ford Stereo 6000 Series, Error Code E16???
From the Ford Audio Manual E16 "There is an eject fault, see your Ford Dealer"... Read more
The battery in my 2007 Corsa is not the original and the replacement has both "green eye" and unscrewable tops for the cells; bizarre? There is a cover over the positive terminal so three of the caps are under that. A car battery specialist has told me that I will need to reset my radio codes if I take the cover off! Its obviously no good only checking 3 of the cells and I do not fancy resetting the radio codes each time I check the battery. I am tempted to simply rely on the green eye and forget about checking the cells. I wish the battery was what it should be, fully maintenance free but as it isnt does anyone have any tips on how to make this normally very easy check?

Hi all,
I apologise for the stupid question (I have tried searching the internet for the answer, honest). The three motor factors and one Honda dealer that I have phoned has been less than helpful.... Read more
Hello
Call your dealer and ask him for the part number and then look on the internet for it....
Reccently brought a 'P' reg 306, it ran fine for afew days with no problem. Drove to work yesterday and put in petrol has light had just come on. Drove to work fine, no probs. 12 hours later went to start and nothing. No ignition lights, no power to centre password console (That where where you input a 4-digit code) Would not start from jump leads and would not bump start. Any ideas as to what this might be?

Hi all as it is time to renew my road tax on my car and bike I cannot understand my car tax is £30 and my bike is £74. My car is a fiesta 1.4 diesel 50-60 mpg and my bike is Triumph America 865cc that also does 55-65mpg. Does anyone know the Co2 outputs of bikes.and surely if road tax was all about being green. The road tax for bikes would be lower???? Read more
great! Thanks for this one.
Iin Jan 2011 i had to replace the clutch master cylinder as the part conected to the pedal stapped as i was driving. Since i have had the car back in the last couple of months i have noticed that when i press the accelerator the car revs shoot up but the car does not move any faster until i slowly release the pedal. Why is this happening Read more
Sounds like the clutch is slipping to me - not sure if there are any other causes of this though.
When the same thing happened to me, I needed a new clutch.
Hi,
When I'm accelerating through the gears the car feels hesitant and judders/struggles a bit, like there's a flat spot or some loss of power. It happens in 2nd and 3rd at around 2000rpm, speeds between 20-30mph. The speedo and tacho needles tend to dip when it occurs as well. It's fine in 1st gear and clears above 30mph and in higher gears. I'm not 100% but my impression is that it only starts happening after the car's warmed up, and not when it's cold just after starting. Could it be something with the fuel mix that gets hidden by the auto choke?
After a bit of googling I thought the problem was down to the MAF sensor, but turns out the car doesn't have one! All the little hoses coming off the engine appear to be attached and intact. There's no misfire as far as I can tell. So I'm after any other suggestions. I'm reluctant to just change plugs/leads/coil in case it turns out to be an engine management type problem. I'm also hoping it's something easy I can fix myself, cos I can't afford costly repairs at the mo'.
Thanks in advance. Read more
I was told yesterday that after 7 years tyres must be replaced irrespective of treadwear or apparent condition.
My wiife's car is 8 years old and according to my informant will have to have the tyres replaced this year.... Read more
Thanks to all the responses.
I have been educated by the reponses and certainly do not want to risk my life or anyone elses by not changing a tyre....
I have noticed how technologically awesome some of you are on this forum, which leads me to believe that there are vehicle mechanics and hobbyists among you.
I enjoy reading about cars and have a good memory for what the vehicles I see on the roads have inside them, and I can perform very basic maintenance on my own car (y'know; bulbs, oil, water, changing a wheel, tyre care, jump start).... Read more
Mechanical complexity isn't really a huge problem. It just means you have to think a bit harder. It's rusted out components that are the major problem. A seized bolt with a rusty head is a bigger headache for most people than a fuel injection system. The stag shouldn't be a problem in this respect since the V8 was so unreliable that most of them rarely ventured outside!

I haven't checked a cell in a battery for 30 years, not since Vauxhall batteries came with the green magic eye thingy. If a low maintenance battery runs dry it's usually faulty anyway. I suspect the cover over the positive connection is simply clipped into place - usually two stubs that push fit down into holes in the battery body in the case of a genuine GM battery.
