I have just bought a March 2007 Corsa 1.2 petrol "Life". The battery on this car is an RAC 1OO which I have never heard of. It says on the side of the casing that is a Serial number YB1047580. My last car was a 1999 1.2 Corsa and that had the original Vauxhall battery . Why would a 4 year old car need a new battery? Are these RAC 100 batteries any good? It says it is a 47 amp per hour which is slightly higher than the Vauxhall spec( 45). I think it is a maintenance free battery because it has the " green eye" but there are also three plugs which look like they can be unscrewed with a Phillips screwdriver. The previous battery also had the green eye but had no plugs at all on it. Any information on this battery will be much appreciated.

I live between Malaysia and the UK. I have just bought a Ford Everest in Malaysia, and I am worried about the battery when leaving the car standing for 3-4 months. I have found a solar trickle battery charger in the UK (http://www.amazon.co.uk/ICP-06002IC10-Solar-Trickle-Charger/dp/B003IVD77Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1306333797&sr=8-1) which plugs into the OBD socket inside the car. My questions are:
1) is it a good idea to use a solar trickle charger that plugs into the OBD socket?
2) will the OBD plug on the UK charger fit into the OBD socket in the Malaysian spec Ford Everest?
3) if the plug and socket tally, will the pins on each also tally, ie will the pins carrying the charge be in the same position as the socket. Read more

Now that i'm retired, i look at a few forums, and this one i have found helpful, regarding dual mass flywheels and diesel particulate filters, and wonder sometimes, are some people scared of going to their main dealer even when the car is under warranty? I have seen both sides of the motor trade, in the uk, and also for 12 years or so in switzerland, and never cease to be amazed at how some people DON'T ask about problems till they are big problems. (and yes i have made my own mistakes too!) Read more
Yes, I'm scared of main dealers. I like to do everything myself where possible because I know that I will do the job properly and look after my vehicle.
I don't trust many mechanics with my vehicle. They probably won't treat it as well as I do, and if it comes back with an extra scuff I would be very upset. Their car parts are often rubbish too, and I would worry about getting dents from doors of other vehicles. In addition to that I would worry that they would wash it, which would almost certainly put loadds of scratches into the paintwork....
Have put deposit on a Mercedes E220 estate from a non MB dealership, but am feeling slightly uneasy. Can anyone put my mind at rest? Or not?

Thanks for the suggestins and help

Certainly sounds as though have an exceptionally good battery then, I am sure a Fluke meter isn't going to be inaccurate (although you never know) I have used one for TV servicing for many years. I bought a 100ah Varta battery for a BMW 5 series diesel I had, very expensive but very good - unfortunately I sold the car soon afterwards.
