Hi, my hdi is showing a mil light. Got it diagnosed as follows. 4 fault codes. 0380 glow plug circuit,1403 1404. 0100 mass air flow sensor circuit. The car won,t go above 2500 revs, think this is limp home mode. We cancelled the fault codes but they came on immediatly on start up. Car starts ok. Have checked for bad connections around the glow plugs and mass air flow connection. nothing obvious. any help appreciated

If you did not have the problem before, fitting is the likely cause.

Is it possible to tell if a previous owner of a car has mistakenly refuelled a car (in this case a Mercedes) with petrol instead of diesel?
If they have, are there any symptoms in the car's behaviour that might show eg reduced fuel consumption?... Read more
You get thick white smoke if diesel is contaminated. You could drain the tank and fill it to the brim with diesel. You can get some goo that helps to clean it too (redex?)
I think the panic about misfuelling is over-egged somewhat - people must do this all the time! Replacing the fuel filter is a possible solution after the tank is drained I guess.
Despite several phone calls an insurance company not shown on comparison sites recently took over four weeks to send me documents, leaving me without documentary evidence of cover. What was my legal position in that time please, if proof had been demanded by our ever vigilant Police?
By contrast when I asked Liverpool Victoria to add a driver to the policy on another car the documents arrived next day... Read more
i found LV to be quick, but got fed up of their "staff" who coul only read from a script and if what you said was not on that script they were incapable of understanding,
I too have had enormous problems with LV insurance /customer services 18 months ago. I needed a (what I thought was) replacement certificate to produce to dealer (for scrappage scheme) but they kept sending random certs for other dates and my other cars past and present. Turns out they had never issued the original cert when I renewed. Mistakes are dead easy to make of course - however my great concern was that I made many phone calls, wrote letters etc etc but I was wholly unable to escalate the issue I had to someone who could deal with it (or who cared?). I know that LV get good reports in surveys - but I only go to them as they are cheap for me.
After much deliberation about what car to get i reckon i want a ford focus but can't decide whether to buy new or old.
I have been to a couiple of garages and seen new 2010 1.6 zetecs for around £13k with 3 yr warranty, first year tax and roadside assistance included along with 0% finance with a 40% deposit.... Read more
Seconded. I think the 'journalists' (ha ha!) get the high spec sporty ones and rave about how wonderful the handling and chassis is. But this bears no correlation to the LX/Zetec models. Build quality again seemed average. A few broken parts cropped up. Nothing major though.
Anyone know exactly what areas of a PCN require completion by a CEO, or serving official? I've heard that he/she needs to write their signature and write in the info box on the envelope that the PCN is delivered in.
If these two areas are not completed by the CEO then PCN invalid, so I hear.... Read more
Schedule to The Civil Enforcement of Parking Contraventions (England) General Regulations 2007, Para 1 and 2 stipulates what must be contained in a PCN and signature and details of CEO are not included.

I am currently on the look out for a Ford Focus Zetec S with the upgraded alloy weels, privacy glass and satnav. I am also after the 2.0 engine. This combination seems to be difficult to find within my price range. Infact impossible at the moment. I can only seem to find the upgraded models without the 2.0 engine. However I have found a 2.0 standard Zetec S and was wondering how difficult it would to get the 18inch ones on there. I'm not too fussed about any particular alloy haven't shopped around yet as would prefer to purchase car with alloys already on. I would want to offset the cost by selling the standard 17inch alloys. How would I go about this and likely cost? Very inexperienced with this sort of thing.

First I am trained as a solicitor, but don't currently hold a practising certificate. My intended specialist areas are PI, clinincal negnigence, housing and advanced criminal. I read with interest some of the legal issues concerned with parking contraventions (or alleged) which did make me smile. Some of the advice given I am familar with including the procedure of issuing charge certificates/ putting in a witness statement to knock down any judgment...only because I got a ticket myself from Westminster City Council...which times out at the end of this month.
I bought a car today from CarGiant and had insurance for seven days from Aviva (and a current MOT) to drive it back to my home. In the back of my mind I know that it is a strict liability offence to drive a motor vehicle on a public highway without displaying a vaild RFL.... Read more

Hi folks. I have a 406 diesel estate(90 bhp). I was wondering if there is any cheapish upgrade I can do to the engine to give me more power? I am just looking for a bit more as just now it is as slow as a week in the jail!! Thanks Read more
As of this year I believe chips are illegal in the UK if you increase the power you also increase the insurance costs its just not worth it for the little improvement you wil get on your limited budget I would forget it.

I suspect the EGR valve circuit. Possible a solenoid valve which controls it. Plus a glow plug or two.
