Hi, new to site tho used info here wisely in buying last BMW e91 320d. Need to replace wifes car now. Have seen a seat ibiza 53 plate fsh cambelt and water pump done at 63k, years tax and mot 1.9tdi (100 bhp) good tyres all round with 99k on clock for £2450. Question is two fold really: 1) Is this good value ( we need the diesel as daily commute of 40 miles) and 2) what do others think of this car/engine. Please be brutally honest. Read more

Well went and looked at the motor today - 160 mile round trip!!! Loved the engine, tourque in abundance and pretty nippy. Handled well and nice to drive. Did I buy? Hell NO. I love the model, I'm a new Ibiza 1.9tdi convert but todays example was shoddy to say the least.

The ad did state there were minor paint work issues and included 4 helpful photos of what appeared to be very minor scuffs. I thought what the hell, 99k on the clock, cambelt and water pump done and fsh. I'm so glad I followed your advice HJ on "Gut Feelings". The body work was shoddy - covered in small scrapes and chips to both the metal and plastic parts of the car....

The problem started intermittently, I would turn the ignition key and all the lights would be OK, turned key to start the car and "nothing" , removed the key and tried again and everything was OK. After a period of time the same happened but this time nothing I did would get the car started, ignition lights OK, just wouldn't start, however, this time I would hear a click, possibly from the starter motor area. Waiting a few minutes then I would try it again and the car would start OK and would work for a couple of weeks or so.

Finally a couple of days ago, I drove the car to the shops, returned to it after 5 mins and although the ignition lights came on, as soon as I tried to start the engine "nothing" not even a click, but the ingnition lights dimmed showing something was drawing current. everything else works OK, windows, radio, blower etc..... Anyone with any experience with car tyres being filled with sealants to prevent punctures?Do they work? Read more

Many years ago, I put this sealent that is supposed to be left in tyres into a virtually new car tyre with a puncture to see what happened. The sealent was for ride on mowers, and I added 3 bottles at £3 a pop.

All that happened is that it would cause an unballanced wheel sensation at ~60mph at the start of journies until it had settled out....

Car is a Toyota Avensis 1.6 year is 2006.

Clutch Pedal raised high before transmission engages.

Could this be due to clutch needing replacing ?
A problem with the hydraulic system ?

Is it possible to adjust the clutch on a hydraulic clutch system or are they self adjusting ?

Also gears crunch in 2nd gear, could you advise ?

I have a MK2 Golf 1300 engine with transistorised iginition. Could I replace my distributor with a VW Polo 1996 1.4 distibutor?

My engine can be hesitant/jumpy on light acceleration, I have traced the fault to the vacuum advance unit. If I suck on the unit it constantly lets air through, the diaphram must surely be eroded. I removed and blocked the vacuum advance unit pipe and the engine was better, but this is not a permanent solution.... Read more

I recently bought a Audi A3 Sportback sport model on a 60 plate, however there are differences between the previous sport model that I had on a 05 plate, one difference being the previous model had twin exhausts, is it because the model I have now is a stanadard model with a sport upgrade package. Hi, my hdi is showing a mil light. Got it diagnosed as follows. 4 fault codes. 0380 glow plug circuit,1403 1404. 0100 mass air flow sensor circuit. The car won,t go above 2500 revs, think this is limp home mode. We cancelled the fault codes but they came on immediatly on start up. Car starts ok. Have checked for bad connections around the glow plugs and mass air flow connection. nothing obvious. any help appreciated

thanks... Read more

I suspect the EGR valve circuit. Possible a solenoid valve which controls it. Plus a glow plug or two.

If you did not have the problem before, fitting is the likely cause.
