Our trusty Mazda MPV has everything - except a thermometer to tell you the outside temperature. My Volvo V50 gives a very accurate reading and as my wife has been driving it instead of the Mazda this week she has insisted that one is fitted to the Mazda asap. I've looked up the 'net but I am none the wiser. Have any backroomers experience of a quality system that can be retrospectively fitted? Thanks -as always. Read more
hi. a while a go the coolant warning light came on so i stopped to check the level and fill it up,but when i opened the cap it was thick with oil. i have since had the head gasket replaced and the head has been skimmed, all was fine for about 100 miles but then oil appeared in the header tank, since this has happened i have isolated the oil cooler to see if this stops the oil getting into the water, but it has since returned and have no clue as what the problem is........ any ideas would be greatly recieved
thanks Read more
A litre in 60 miles would over pressurise the cooling system and through water/oil out of the header tank pressure cap. Is the engine a bit smokey, it may worth removing the air pipe from the input to the intercooler and checking for excess oil that may be coming from leaky seals in the turbo. This may be cues by a blockage in the breather system and the scavenge return from the the turbo is not doing it's job and pressurising the seals. Regards Peter
I have had a good offer from my local Toyota dealer on an Aygo that he has in the Showroom. The offer is on par with the recent Drive The Deal Toyota offers.
Should I buy now or negotiate a January delivery/registration so that it is a 2009 car?
The dealer says registering it in December will make very little difference to its value in 3 years time (but he would, would'nt he!) but what do you think? Read more
Deal has been done @ £7420 otr. I am happy with that as it works out cheaper that the drivethedeal price + delivery charge to 'the other side of the border' or the inconvenience of us having to drive to englandshire to collect the Aygo to avoid the delivery charge.
It also supports my local dealership too.
Collecting it next Friday - yipee!
Already have two toyotas in the family, one of them 15 years old and the reliability is great, that is why I found it difficult to consider other manufacturers.
Thanks to Eddy and all for their input. Even got advice from HJ himself :-), well chuffed!
Great forum too HJ!
Is it just me? Crossing the QE2 Bridge from north to south, the tall uprights appear to lean quite considerably to the left. Read more
Lud,
you don't need to do any maths to see constellations rise up over the horizon as you travel and so deduce that we're all being carried along on the backs of 4 elephants astride a giant turtle... hang on, that's a third idea.

Hi all, I have just bough a RENAULT CLIO 1.4 RT 1998 MK 2? I got it knowing it had the following faults, it starts and idles ok rev it above 1800 rpm and it starts to misfire but returns to idle ok. The second fault is after it is warmed up, stop it, and it will not start until it cools down about an hour later, can anyone help please. I am in the trade a LGV fitter but left the car side of it when it was "plugs & points" if you know what I mean!! I bought the car for my son who is 17 in Sept 09, so I have a while to try and get it running. Would be very great full for any input.
Thanks R.J.B. Read more
Found the problem, one of the wires in the connector to the TDC sensor was not right in, it was just touching the pin on the sensor. Renault do a mod loom @ £24 PLUS VAT, I used the connector form the rear LED brake light which is the same, (LED light in/op so got light and wire to it from scrap yard) soldered it into main loom and shrink wrapped it, stopped misfire and it now starts hot GO TO GO! Thanks everyone.

I saw this MINI on Sunday in Nottingham wrapped in cling film with notes on paper under the cling film saying DO NOT MOVE and the logo of the Police Nottinghamshire Constabulary. I took the pictures as I drove using a telephone so they are a bit blurred. Why would they do this? Read more
Have you not seen these people in European airports put your case on a revolving platform and proceed to wrap them in clear plastic. I assume its to ensure nobody take a look in. Not that cheap either.
What should I do?
Everyday when I go home from work I have to endure one of the worst designed junctions in this country. I am referring to the cross roads of the M5, M4 and A38 in North Bristol.
To those who are not familiar with this appalling piece of modern highway design please look at it from the air via google maps to see what I mean.
tinyurl.com/5t37de
All the vehicles that leaves the A38 to get on the M5 North needs to go across two lanes of the M4 East slip road, and the same if one is going off the M5 to the A38 south and have to cross the two lanes M4 slip road into the M5 South.
I've counted an accident every day of this week during rush hour and I saw untold misery to the people involved and the people who try to get on their way home/work.
The only other place I know of in the world where motorway exits goes across the entrance to the same motorway is South Africa and the infamous Concrete Highway of Jb'rg (the ring road).
I wrote to my MP in the past but nothing was done about it, is there another way I can get this road to be made safer? I see so many traffic control devices such as cameras etc' in places where there is hardly any problem but in such a bad spot there is no warnings what's so ever.

What should I do?
Without wishing to state the obvious, make allowances for the situation and just do your best to avoid being involved in an accident yourself.
I bought a 58 plate Qashqai 7 weeks ago from a dealer, the car had already been registered so when i bought it the salesmen said i should have my V5 within 4 weeks.6 weeks have now passed and when i phoned the DVLA this morning they said there had been no change from the original registration.I went back onto the phone and called the salesmen who said that car was registered to me but was registered to my name care of a leasing company.Said i would get my v5 in 11 months.Turns out the car should never have technically been sold without me knowing i wouldnt get the v5.I did get the car at a good price but now have been told to drive carefully because i cant provide a v5 if anything happens. Also i dont know what happens car insurance wise. What can i do? Can i reject the car? Read more
So if I read this correctly it's your car but you can't have title to it ? >>
Depends what his contract says.
Is the Dealer the owner, and HonestBear the keeper?
Is HonestBear the owner and the Dealer the registered keeper?
What exactly has HonestBear paid for?
Supposing the dealer goes bust, then what?
Has HB got the car insured? If so, did he say he was the owner or the keeper?

Begging you guys for a bit of help here. The alarm won't stop unless I disconnect the battery. Sometimes the siren sounds, sometimes not. Usually the headlights flash. It's an L-reg 1994 Peugeot 306 XRDT. How can I permanently disable the alarm?
Thanks, Read more

Plenty of digital thermometers about with battery-powered internal units & external probes for about ten pounds. Batteries in mine have lasted over 6 months.
