I am trying to change the thermostat on my 2003 TDCi
Haynes manual says to drain the radiator first, they show a very nice picture of the drain plug.

I spent an hour underneath the car looking for this plug. Any ideas where it is, on which side and how accessible.

Cheers

As the Vat rate has been reduced from 17.5% to 15%

What is the new Vat rate payable by dealers on their profit margin on used vehicles, ie. the Margin rate? Read more

Thanks Manatee . The 13.043% rate is the figure I needed

the "control a woman" remote is clearly snake oil (such a thing is just not possible - I am sure NC can come up with a scientific reason), therefore I have pumped for the "polly the insulting parrot keyring"

Driving through puddles - is it:

o - A good thing, 'cos it washes muck off the underneath of the car;

o - A bad thing, 'cos it leads to a build-up of muck under the car.

Hm?

I'd tend to go for the former, especially if it's been raining enough to wash all the flippin' salt off the road - but ICBW. Read more

IIRC, it is legal in USA and many other countries.

So, why it's considered bad in UK?

Any vehicle on your right hand lane should always look in the mirror before moving to your lane.

Undertaking is just another example of the yobs that now think they rule the roads

One could say the same about CLOG. Although I suppose in their case it might be absent-mindedness rather than a concious decision to be awkward.
- if the o/side lane is empty and you want to overtake why not use
it?

I think it's more the case where the o/side lane isn't empty but the n/side lane is that we're talking about.
- also when the n/side lane is full of slower traffic and with the
traffic that comes onto the road from the left and I am doing 70 in
the middle lane I see little reason to keep changing lane

It sounds like you're describing a situation where it's not safe to move left. Or if it is then you'd want to be back in the middle lane to overtake something else within a few seconds. In which case I think most people would agree with you.

Have noticed when looking at tyre prices that generally speaking, tyres with higher speed ratings seem pricier than those with lower speed ratings even when the tyre size itself is the same. Given that my particular car has a supposed top speed of 130mph, why then are the manufacturers specification W rated tyres (circa 170mph?) rather than V, which would be more than adequate. Further to that, would it be ill advised to use V rated tyres on the car in order to save a few pounds, and \would that also throw up other issues maybe with insurance, safety etc...? This is not a case of penny-pinching, rather than asking the question is there a real reason why one should be spending more money for higher specification tyres than is necessary for the car? I wonder...? :) Read more

The reason the question came up for me was that different retailers were giving me different speed rating as the 'recommended' type for my car on their automatic online search facilities ie. they were telling me I needed V's, but I noticed that the car was on W's and checked the manual to reveal, sure enough, W. When all's said and done (don't you just hate cliched phrases like that...?!) my opinion on the matter now is that even though lower ratings may not be dangerous per se, for the sake of £20 or so extra spent on a tyre, which most of us will agree is peanuts compared to the general costs of car running, adhering to the manufacturers specification is the way to go. Case closed for me thankyou :)

was very frosty last night, so to help the wife on her way i started and defrosted her RX400h, using de-icer, including driving it around the block to ensure it was not iced up after i washed it before it got dark last evening.
after she left she phoned to say the windscreen had cracked across the bottom, about 2 foot long!
anyone heard of this sort of thing happening before?
i imagine it could happen if you pour hot water on a cold screen etc but it was de-iced enough for me to have driven it a mile or so before she left!

its a company car so no expense to us but seems curious

Westminster council was in BBC Watchdog show last week over pay by phone parking irregularity.
Many motorists were issued penalty notice even though they paid over phone!

What if someone doesn't have a mobile phone?

Cost of calling 0870 numbers are quite high from mobile phones (especially with PAYG ones)
