Hey all.
Anyone have log-term experience of the Di engine fitted to Nissans? I'm looking at maybe buying an older Primera, Almera, or Almera Tino, and would ideally like one of the diesel engines. A cursory Google reveals issues with the (I believe) Renault-sourced DCi engines, but is the older Di engine a good 'un?
cheers

Hi my 04 clio 1.2 was involved in a minor bump yesterday morning, light impact with another car damaging the front of mine, no airbags etc deployed.
Since this the car wont start, I rang renaults who informed me my car does not have a fuel shut off switch, and even it did I believe the car should turn over..
I cant see any broken wires, or any blown any fuses, and my key remote still works perfectly locking and unlocking the car, however the immobilser light remains on all the time, and flashes fast when you attempt to start engine it is obviously not being deactivated as usual.
It seems very coincidental that the problem has occurred since my prang, however I cant see any reason based on my small crash and the lack of damage for the immobilser to start,
If any one has any ideas I would be very grateful as I am baffled!! Read more
* New car registrations fell 36.8% in November to 100,333 units.
* Year-to-date volume is down 10.7% to 2,023,104 units.
* Diesel market share achieved record high of 47.0% in November.
* Private market particularly weak in November, down 45.1%.
?November has been another difficult month for the motor industry and whilst some consumers may have delayed their purchases to take advantage of the recent VAT reductions, overall demand continues to fall,? said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. ?Urgent action is now required to ease access to credit and finance, both to support consumers and meet the cash-flow needs of the industry.?

I'm looking for a new car at the moment but can't decide what to buy. I need something reasonably cheap and economical. Ive got about £3.5k to spend and am currently looking at a 306 hdi estate on an 02 plate.
Any suggestions as to other vehicles? Read more

Plus a huge amount on them if you do a forum search on this site.
The ' heavy snowfalls " forecast for my area have in fact been completely off the mark and we have light rain. I wonder how many people cancelled journey's, appointments and other activities based on this totally inaccurate prediction. In the current climate, business's are doing all they can to survive. There must be a few high street store managers looking at their empty shops today as customers stay at home to avoid the non existent snow.

I am suitably rebuffed - after all it was only a year ago that the press and the global warmists were publishing pictures of St Anton in Austria being bare of snow as proof of "global warming" - where are the pictures of it this year??.
It's a "science" based on emotion and sensationalism not statistics; a picture or two of polar bears sitting "stranded" on a melting ice floe - taken as a tourist picture. It's only just over a year ago since Radio 5 sent Julian Warricker (sp??) to Greenland to show how the Arctic Ice was "disappearing" - well guess why they sent him in October - yes, that is the end of the "summer melt". Lets not send him in Winter - it's all frozen. Why have global temps been declining since 1988? Why do they tell us (and this is the basis of all the global warming debate) that temps have risen by 2 deg since 1880 when the global average temp (a meaningless statistic in itself) was measured as 14deg +/- 2deg - in other words temp has increased by 2 deg but we don't know what the temp was within 2 deg -oh, and by the way, who took the comparative temps in 1880 at the South and North Poles?. The statistics about global warming are very debatable. See all the "statistics" Steve Hansen has spouted over the last few years.
Anyway, back to "Misleading weather forecasts" - please explain why 24 hour weather forecasts can be so inaccurate yet we are apparently going to spend billions and billions of pounds on trying to prevent a rise in temp over the next 100 years or so and are even now taxing cars/ fuel etc on the basis of of this temp prediction.
Will it rain tomorrow? will the temps be well below freezing today? (no - unfortunately our prediction was wrong by 5 deg and it was dry and as for the predicted snow showers, no chance) What temp will it be in 100 years time? Definitely 2 degrees warmer than "today" and on that basis we are going to stick some more tax on your petrol and and heating bills.
By the way, I get the VAT thing (though the Costa coffee place today doesn't - but at least my coffee was a bit cheaper). Did Gordon and Alastair Dearest get it? Don't think so.
"harm from siting a nuclear power station in their backyard" - roughly the same as harm from bird flu, CJD, hole in ozone layer, lead in petrol, weapons of mass destruction, drinking alcohol while pregnant, being a totally irresponsible banker/motgager/mortgagee/.
And what do you suggest instead of nuclear power - coal? gas? oil, wind? (except when not windy), tidal (please switch off all electrical stuff at high tide and low tide for a few hours)
I have a diesel engine.
I have noticed that the fuel line from the fuel tank to the engine (going through the fuel filter) every morning (or after a few hours sitting) no longer has fuel in it, and won't start, it just keeps trying to start but not catching (becuase there is no fuel in the engine). The fuel line does have a hand pump which I have been using to pump the fuel up and into the engine (until I see the fuel coming out the return line).
Does anybody know why this would be happening, and how it could be fixed?
Thanks Read more
With the 2.2Dt Espace there is no electric pump in the tank. Instead the injection pump sucks the fuel from the tank. This means that the entire fuel line is under suction and has vacuum in it.
There are numerous snap-action quick release couplings in the line and one can surmise that these couplings have rubber O rings in them which perish and go hard, one can also surmise that the couplings then leak. Bad starting occurs and although jump leads and a second battery will work for a while, eventually the starter motor will get lazy and need replacing. The car will start however when it is towed by a 4x4 so it seems that the injection pump needs to be turned quite rapidly in order to get enough suction to lift up the fuel. From what I know about other people's Espaces it seems that air in the diesel is the number one reason for scrapping the car....
Hi- The family ford focus has stopped blowing hot air from the heater (an 02 1.9 Diesel). A few weeks ago it did 'break down", where it lost power, and when the garage inspected it, they felt the water pump needed replacing, and also flushed the cooling system, removing a lot of crud, and replacing the thermostat (they did the cam belt at same time). My partner drives it more than me, and days before the breakdown had said the heater was not working well. When the garage did the work on it, they felt the heater had improved though wasn't brilliant, and suggested the heater matrix (at about £150 incl labour) may need doing to make the heater work as it should. We left it to see how it went, and of course it's been OK till the very cold spell and now it seems to not heat up at all!
Do people think it is the heater matrix etc? I've booked it in for next tuesday. I don't know a great deal about how cars work, so would like to be clued up a bit beforehand (though I do trust the garage).
Thanks for any help. Read more
Garage fitted a new heater matrix (£141 incl VAT and labour) and now does seem to be working just fine.
has any one got any ideas? My e36 compact has suddenly lost a majority of its power when the engine is cold, oon as it warms up its off like a rocket. I've tried injector cleaner and also a new O2 sensor, currently there are no fault codes being displayed by the ECU. The exhaust is intact, idle speed seems fine.

So trumpets the photo caption of this week's car test in the local free paper. The car? Not some 1200 bhp Veyron-beater but a humble Renault Twingo. All for a credit-crunch-busting £12K.
Read the caption again and it doesn't say what the starting speed is; probably 124mph.
Or the author may have left a critical few words out ...

I think they just combined the 0-62 with the top speed.
I have replaced the resistor pack in my ford focus for the second time in a few months and just in case replaced the pollen filter at the same time. This time it only lasted a couple of days before blowing again. I noticed that after replacing the resistor pack that the blower made a squeaking noise (dodgy bearings) afterwards.
Should I replace the resistor pack again or is my problem much bigger?... I thought I might need the blower replaced?
Any suggestions/help welcome. Read more
a blown resistor pack is normally caused by the fan motor drawing too much current.Usually a worn motor. In fact it is often the thermal circuit breaker that fails on top of the resistor unit (small tube like device)rather than the resistive element. Also make sure the 4-pin connector is not burnt or overheated.hth

unfortunatly I dont have the spare key, it just seems a bit coincidental I have a bump and now the key doesnt work...
