Will life for the motorist improve if the tories get elected and stay in power for a good decade like labour?
Will there be a return to lower fuel taxes, more road building, fairer VED and less gatsos?
Or are they just going to tow the 'green' line like all the other misguided, gullible, ignorant, arrogant, narrow minded, short sighted, interfering hippy lunatics? Read more

No particular wish for a game of yah boo but there is another take on inflation which shows that by 1978 it had fallen to 8% only to climb back to near 20% in 80/81. While the tories may not strictly have "devalued" the lowest £/dollar rate, very near parity, was in 1985 - oh and who's that youthful adviser to Lamont visible in the photos of "Black Wednesday"?
Trouble today is they're all the same - and that from a died in the wool labourite!
HELP!
Went to change front pads, but both bolts have sheared off in caliper.
Is there an easy way out of this problem?.

Most helpful Screwloose, that settles it.
Hi everyone, {no 'txt' talk please}
Just been driving back from Brighton to Cardiff, and a warning message popped up saying 'ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT', and it now comes on everytime i start it, and stays on.
Ive got a petrol 206 gti (138), Car seems to be running fine, although its a tad rough, but its been like that since i bought it.
I was reading Nathan206's post www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=67310 but I'm assuming its not the same problem in regards to the diesel additive?
Cheers

"A/P Fault" is just a generic warning that there's a fault-code stored in the engine ECU.
The favourite on those is a cat-efficiency code P0420 - but you'll have to get any garage to read the codes to have any idea how to proceed.
[If it is P0420; only fit an genuine cat - the pattern ones won't work.]
I have a 54 reg Mondeo 2.0tdci with 205/55/16 91v tyres on seven spoke alloy wheels.
These alloys are deteriorating with flaking outer skin and corrosion. I have been offered a set of six spoke alloys as replacements? Can I assume they will be safe to fit in lieu of the originals or will complications exist?
Does anyone know of a company in the Bristol/Swindon area that can repair corroded alloys?
Thank you.

Any good bodyshop should be able to refurbish your existing wheels without too much trouble.. about £30-£40 per wheel, but if done right, well worth the money as it transforms the car.. in my opinion.
Hope this helps
Greetings all, Daught got back to her motor tonight after a hard days toil and some scrote has smashed the side window and nicked a load of gear, including the satnav that I have told her 100 times not to leave in the glovey.
Question, anyone have a rough idea how much it will cost to replace, ie by a autoglass type company, unsure yet whether her insurance will be useful as would imagine it has a large excess (she is only 22).
If she does go down the insurance route, will she be able to claim for the nicked stuff?, and how much do you reckon it will affect her next quote, has 2 years NCB but this isnt protected.
Cheers all, I look forward to your comments, and if you get offered a cheap Tomtom 1XL from a bloke down the pub in the Southampton area, give me a shout so I can have a chat with him!!!

Hopefully a lesson learned, making me think now about the CD case I leave in the door pocket!
Small bit of good news is the fitter has sorted it with the Insurance company and it will only be £60, definitely no affect on the NCB so all thats lost is £60 and the satnav.
Just spotted one being sold on Fleabay locally a few hours after hers went missing, probably a coincedence but keeping my eye on it anyway, you never know, maybe I'll take a look at it before I bid, wouldnt it be nice if it turned out to have the same serial number!
Cheers everyone for the advice and thoughts.
Backroom comes up trumps again.

Hi all,
When i started my 1999 Astra today the mileage counter was just showing as a whole series of dashes, however, the clock which records journey lengths etc is working.
Any ideas why one may be okay and the other isn't showing?
Many thanks! Read more
You're welcome, and thanks for the feedback that it worked.
It's on show at the the Alan Aldridge exhibition at the Design Museum in London (see www.designmuseum.org/exhibitions/2008/alanaldridge ), but there's a picture of the car at www.retrotogo.com/2008/10/alan-aldridge-d.html
If cars have to be painted, why can't more of them be painted like this one? Read more
I thought we had seen the last of these nursery-painted jalopies forty years ago during the entertaining but frivolous orgy of bad taste and immorality now longingly romanticised and falsified under the name 'the Sixties'. Never liked psychedelic-painted cars much myself. Unwanted attention isn't really my thing most of the time.
Strange? You first check is to establish if there is 12 volts approx on the relevant fuse [and it's partner] when [dip?] is selected.
