hi room , i had my car stolen last friday night i reported it to the police on saturday morning , they found the car about a half of a mile away from my house that afternoon and they took it away on a low loader for finger printing ( they arrested a load of youths in the area that same evening for a spree of car theft) when they found my car they rang me and i met up with them , i wasnt allowed to touch my car but judging by it they prized the driver window down to gain entry and then smashed the steering lock off and hot wired the ignition, is this worthy of a claim against theft ie third party fire and theft or do they only pay out if the car is never seen again or if its torched?.. thanks, zoo Read more

A similar thing happened to me with a TPFT policy. I didn't get anything because the vehicle had been recovered but my premium went up because of the theft.

Having trouble with this petrol version. While warming up the revs fluctuate, sometimes to the extent it will stall. When up to operating temperature it will only occasionally fluctuate.
New lambda sensor fitted in last 6 months,it did seem to make a slight difference.
Any ideas or info would be much appreciated. Read more

I'd check the coolant temp sensor's resistance too.

Dad has a Jan 06 reg TDCI 90 mondeo LX with 110k miles on it(ex rep car from his company).

When started, sometimes it's misfiring very badly which can be fixed by turning off+on again. Never misfires at any other times, and it's generally only from cold.
(I think misfire is one word, it's really rought and feels like one of the cyliners isnt moving in time with the others). Been checked by garage several times and they claim to have no clue.

It's also developed a weird clunking noise from the rear right suspension when theres 3+ people in the car, and when it rains the drivers footwell fills up with water. Havent been to garage about the last two problems, but would love to know if it's a common problem in case the garage goes to town(especially on the suspension) and start claiming lots of things need to be replaced/fixed.

Thanks in advance :) Read more

Swindon Borough Council wants to pull out of the Safety Camera Partnership which would mean the end of standing and mobile speed cameras in the town.

"It is in line with a Department for Transport report published on the 25th of September which said speed is only reponsible for six percent of accidents," he said.

The authority said it spends £320,000 per year on funding speed cameras in the town.

Its the factory fit alarm, as for the lock and unlock the drivers door and turn the ignnition it works fine. Its when i connect the battery that the whole thing starts going off with the flashing lights and the horn and thats why i've had to leave the connects off the battey for the time being being as it keeps going off, but when i do and it does this this i can start the car and lock and unlock the door its just the problem the horn and flashing lights going off, which is the pain.

Hi I need some quick advice on this one - was leaving a car park and came out onto a small side road, had squared up my car straight on the road in first gear at around 5-8 mph. Had made sure that the road to my left before turning was clear (its a short dead end). Someone who had parked at the dead end then drove out and up the left hand side of the road, did not see me in front of them, and flew past on my inside, cutting in in front of me so that the front left side corner of my car made contact with her rear passenger door.

If I had come straight out the car park into her I can see I would be liable. As I had made sure the road was clear, turned slowly into the road and straightened up, at which point she has gone past me admitting she didnt see me on my left and pulled in in front of me where the road narrows, Im claiming I am at least not fully liable.

Unbelievably, my insurer spoke to her, called me back without speaking to me about it and said, you drove into her on a main road, you are liable, which I am querying so they are coming out to look at the site. They want to take both cars in to be repaired this week and then work out liability from there onwards but Im concerned that we lose evidence if I let them do that. The grain of the "grazing" on my car clearly shows the direction of someone squeezing past me on the road and not me running into someone.

I am not sure what to do - I reckon at the worst, its an accident with no witnesses and minor damage to both vehicles, I was on the road NOT turning into it when the bump occured, it should at worst be joint liability as she admits she did not see me there.

Any advice - and asap please before my insurer stuffs things up for me!

I hate unpleasantness - which unfortunately always follows these type of things.

If you claim on your insurance policy and, as Dwight Van Driver advises, let the insurance companies sort it out between them, there should be no unpleasantness whatsoever.

On my Rover 75 diesel CDT the radiator fan seems to operate all the time - even if I just turn on the ignition without starting the engine. I can't hear if it's on all the time when I'm driving but whenever I come to a halt and turn off the ignition the fan is always on and continues for a few seconds. This is irrespective of the ambient temperature and the type/speed of driving I have been doing. Surely the fan should only operate when the coolant temperature rises to a certain level? In normal driving the temperature seems OK with the needle in the middle (i.e. as pointing west on a compass).

Earlier in the year I had the common 75 problem of a flooded ECU. The ECU was apparently OK when dried out (although the glow plug relay was corroded and had to be replaced). I am wondering if this may be the cause of the fan problem as I presume the fan operation is controlled by the ECU.

Your comments would be appreciated. Read more

sounds like a dodgey coolent sensor in the block or a corroded multiplug in the fan wiring

At the first 10,000 mile service of my car, at the main dealer, I was amazed to be asked if I wanted to pay for a £16 bottle of Havoline fuel system cleaner. Amazed because I thought car manufacturers did not recommend any fuel or oil additives.
I declined. Anyone else had this attempt to get even more money out of them?

A garage will often use to system clean fuel additive to clear out engine muck if/when a vehicle fails its MOT emissions tests. Often the additive treatment is enough to get the vehicle through a re-test, otherwise it's more serious money.

There are some excellent fuel additives products on the market and they a good job at cleaning up what cheap fuel or mixing fuels don't do.
