Hi,
i have just bought a 95 (M reg) 1 litre micra that also has the starting problem. Should have guessed something was up, when the guy who sold it to me made a point of starting it in front of me, and saying "look how well it starts from cold". The next day, it took jump leads and about 20 mins of cranking to get it to cough into life. That was after checking for 4 good sparks and drying the plugs. Today was the same saga, but I gave up after 10 mins, and tried bump starting behind a land rover. fired first time in about 10 meters! Having read the various threads on this, should I go for coolant temp sensor first? There is a smell of fuel after cranking for a few minutes, so overfuelling could be the problem? Even tried 'Easy Start' - no joy.

I'm sorry if this has been spoken of before - haven't seen it if it has. HJ has noted in his updated test reports for the forthcoming new Jazz, that the Co2 level on the I-shift 1.4 is not now 120g/km (band B) but 125g/km (band C for this year and band D for 09/10) and therefore the magic £35 a year figure has eluded us. It's on the Honda website but they haven't drawn any attention to the fact that it was initially proposed to be the lower figure and has been quietly amended to the higher figure. Anyone looking at the vast majority of previews will be under the misapprehension that the, lower, band B will apply to the I-shift and may well be surprised to learn of the amendment. I thought the reasoning behind doing away with CVT in favour of I-shift was all about (a) emissions and (b) economy. Well 50% of that has now gone... the emissions of the previous CVT don't now seem any worse than the new approach - which, if Civic owners are to be believed, hasn't found universal favour. In view of the 'premium' pricing of Jazz I suggest that a number of prospective buyers may be looking closer at, say, the new i20 Hyunda when it arrives... especially with it's 5 year warranty and despite the current concern about diesel reliability over petrol and comparison between diesel/petrol pricing, I would think that a prospective buyer will look at the Hyundai warranty and say I'll have the diesel for 5 years, free of worry, and sell it for....whatever... thereafter... and still be quids in. Having said that, we don't know for sure that the i20's figure will be 120 or below - but I would disappointed if it weren't. I guess a number of bods awaiting the new Jazz model may reconsider and take advantage of the offers on the old CVT model that, hopefully, will abound in coming weeks. Read more
Our car's an automatic. Whilst driving, the symbol is lighting up, and the car starts kangarooing. Sometimes the car will continue, other times it cuts out and can then be difficult to start up. We have changed the EGR twice since we bought the car (four years ago) and we had originally wondered if it was that that needed changing again (last time we changed it was just over a year ago).
Can anyone help please? Read more
Needs hooking up to a diagnostic reader and the fault code(s) extracting - takes away all the guesswork of what has put the fault light on.
I got into my Forester yesterday to find the heater blower running, this was before I'd put the key in the ignition. I always have it on at least number 1 when using the car. When I tried to start the car the battery was flat, presumably caused by the blower running since it was last used over 24hrs previously.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
I have since tried to replicate the fault but it now seems to be behaving.
Just to confirm, the car had been left with the key removed and locked as usual (Sigma CAT1 system).
I've left the blower switched off for now but I'm bound to forget at some stage and don't want to risk another flat battery episode.
Any help much appreciated.

I have a 2000 S Turbo and from some wiring diagrams I have for a LHD US vehicle there is shown a blower relay so maybe this got stuck on, in theory it the relay should be in the car compartment under the dash on the right where the interior fuses are situated behind the pull out coin tray otherwise could be some sort of odd feed back thru the stereo etc., but really no idea! - you could try the Forester forum - www.subaruforester.org - european section as some very knowledgable types but obscure electrical faults normally very hard to identify from a distance. Good luck..
Hi recently discovered a suspension rattle/knocking noise! only about 6 months ago replaced the rear subframe bushes, today been under and checked all the anti roll bars and link arms and found no play etc, any ideas out there please on what could be causing this?

I recently asked a main dealer salesman if the optional cruise control was a factory or dealer fit option. His reply "No idea you will have to ask parts." No attempt by him to find out, and it could be the difference between a factory order or buying from stock. I already knew because I had asked the manufacturers customer sevice people, but that dealer lost a sale as the apathy may run through the organisation. Do other BRers do their own reserch? Is this treatment of customers typical? Will the situation improve as sales fall? Read more
I bought 5 x cars from the same man @ 3 x garages.
The last one was not from what it should have been and our business ceased after that.
What could be done to stop the carnage amongst the under-25's on our roads? This demographic are responsible for a huge percentage of fatalities and serious injuries. Is there no way of educating them effectively rather than relying on just a rudimentary driving exam? Read more
So many young drivers feel they are in a playstation based game and that crashing & stacking any vehicle is a walk away event.
Being pushed from the rear?
100 metres from a Gatso etc., pull over & let 'em scream past you.
Instant justice ;-)

Try posting on the Fiat Forum. They should be able to help as it seems to come up often IIRC.
Hello Every one,
I have just got my self a 1974 MG Midget with the 1275 engine, Which has been converted to run on unleaded petrol.
But the head has an oil leak on the back of the head, There is a hole which looks like there should be a bolt in it, but i cant seem to find the bolt listed any where.
As you look at the front of the car the hole is on the right side of the head and is on at a angle.
Some one else told me that it has a mlf thread, and that it has got a very fine thread i am not sure how much of this is true.
Many thanks for any help or advise.
Matthew
Thinking that looking for a bolt in the middle of a hay stack is easyer then on the web!!!!

Yes, this was the drilling I was asking about. The drilling isn't straight up, so, there's a plug - I suspect it is this plug that has come out. As this plug is usually not removed during normal work, I doubt if it has ever been listed as an available part.
I've never taken this particular plug out, but, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find it's a small BSPT thread.
My old twin barrel footpump broke today. The fancy electric one threw itself under my wheel last year when I was reversing off the drive. Well I'm sure wasn't stupid enough to leave it there..............
So a good excuse for a trot to Halfords today. Mission is to buy a pump. Sworn intention is to buy a a good but inexpensive one...........
Experience tells me however that I shall return with a suddenly justifiable and fancy electric one and an equally fancy manual one just "in case".
I shall also probably feel compelled to buy something I've never heard of, some unction or other for cleaning dustcaps or something. I shall lust after the latest sat nav even though my old one is fine and I might even decide that the thing which will make my life complete is another new mountain bike, or accessory for one of the two current ones.
Is it just me, or do others have this "kid in a sweetshop" problem in these places ?
All I need is a basic pump, a basic pump, a basic pump.............repeat 100 times....... Read more
When I go into a car showroom to buy a new car I only ever buy exactly what I went in for ~ model, variant, colour, factory fitted options, dealer fitted options etc. The only thing I need the saleman for is for them to agree a "price to change" and complete the formalities of processing the order.

Just ordered a 1.4 ES I-shift and got metallic paint (pearl) plus premium pack thrown in - no part exchange. My usual Honda dealer would only include metallic paint, did not return call requesting test drive - the one we ordered from let us have a 24 hour test drive.
The test drive let us get used to the I-shift; See my comments in the relevant HJ thread/forum.
