October 2008
Hi all
I am hoping that someone may be able to help
I have a 2005 ford focus not the newer model on a 1.8 zetec.
I have two keys for the car being the master and the remote (although the remote doesnt work). I purchased a third key off ebay on the basis I would be able to repgram the remote and put the old car on this. This allows me to open the car and lock it but not start it as the imolbiliser kicks in. Although I can start it on the two other keys.
Reading the literature in the handbook is it simply a case of getting my third key cut and then re-coding this as per the instructions or is it possible to use the two keys that work then on the third attempt swap the working remote for the old one which may work?
Any help would be great Read more
Hi,
I witnessed an accident on a normal road (single carriage) which was caused by the car in front stopping in the opposite lane and having the following car hit it. This was caused by the tractor they were overtaking indicating to turn right.
Any views??

Due care against the Tractor Driver failing to ensure OK to do right turn.
From what I read in the OP the tractor driver did not actually turn, he put his indicator on.
Who owns a seriously high mileage car and what is it? I'm guessing a few volvo's, merc's and honda's may crop up. Can you still expect trouble-free motoring above 100k if properly maintained? Secrets to longevity? Read more
I've had a few Peugeot 306 diesels with over 100K on them and never had any issues other than the usual tyres and brake replacements. The interiors (except for the ones with half leather) has stood up to the test of time and not worn or frayed.
My brother has a 2002 307 with 198,000 miles on and it drives and looks like it has a fraction of that.
I'm interested in buying a new 6 2.0 diesel. However, it has been announced that a new 2.2 motor will be lauched early next year with the engine starting at 125bhp upwards. Should I wait and buy 1 in 2009 or buy now? Read more
There's also going to be a 180PS version which does more MPG and has lower emissions than the 2.0. Or so I believe.
I love to look at car adverts to see if anyone is offering an intertesting deal. However, having sold our 2 car privately I'm looking for replacements. Like many others have experienced, long before the current worldwide financial meltdown car dealers offered peanuts for our cars (both 51 plates) and, as stated we sold privately gaining a few hundred quid.
So we have gone from dealer to dealer in our area (Glasgow). Very few want to discount new cars with or without a part exchange. Many dealers eg Nissan say they just can't get the cars or the profit is so low they are lucky to take £500 off the price of a new one. Obviously, prices in England are better as per this website.
One particular dealer is claimimg to be 'beating the crunch' up here... but they are advertising special offer cars at the same price as they were before all this happened. The likes of your basic Corsa's without air con etc.
So when will dealers give us a real deal???

Dealers are really feeling the strain as you have seem, sales down around 21% according to a few reports.
Basically most manufacturers have cut production of new cars, some models more than others. Most sales going fleet way, most garages in our city if not all have made people redundant.
Dealers are also loosing so much money on all cars that don't sell. Only half a year ago they were excepting px or buying in cars that just sit around depreciating.
They need as much money as they can get.
In a stable market the "undercut the competitor" appoach would ensure sales. In todays market where no-one is buying that tactic is not working so good and therefore not enough bargain sales are being made to keep afloat so people are getting desperate and trying to reel in as much money as possible. The salesmen are under pressure as the majority are paid a very low basic with bonuses depending on sales volume.
It means targeting standard spec cars, particularly affordable low engine, low co2, high mpg superminis.
Has anyone noticed how cheap late-model old-shape Mondeos and Vectras are becoming? Your looking at around £6k for 07 reg examples with average mileages from car supermarkets. Seems like a lot of car for your dosh, what do you reckon? Surely the best used buys out there?? Read more
I know the real cheapies now are new 1.8 petrol Exclusive Vectras but the number of 58 reg diesel Vectra taxis in and around Bristol at the moment means there must be some real bargains to be had.
Sorry, it's boring.
But we have a cracked concrete driveway which needs replacing. The choices are
those funny little bricks which the boss doesn't like (she who thinks a Golf is flashy)
patterned coloured concrete
tarmac (I fancy black with white chalk flecks, but that's me)
something more eco-friendly.
Any ideas?
Sorry.

Thank you for this safety tip Barney I was not aware. I have avoided being nominated for the Darwin Award simply because I can change the oil on my Land Rover without needing to raise it. I did use plastic ramps at one point but soon realised it was totally unnecessary.
My partner had a 2008 Renault Grand Scenic from new this year.
It has the 2.0l petrol engine with an auto gearbox.
When you drive the car it stays in low gears for too long making a lot of noise
and using too much fuel.
We have taken it back to our local Renault dealer - {generalised -DD} and they say that nothing is wrong
they say it is behaving as designed.
We are only getting 20-25 mpg. The car is noisy and is stressful to drive. If you select
manual and select a more appropriate gear then return to automatic the car changes
down.
I have requested a test drive of another car with the same engine/transmission
to see if the problem is replicated because the garage has analysed the gearbox
for 2 days and says no fault found.
I wonder if anyone else has had similar issues or if anyone knows whether another
fault can cause a delay in changing gear ?

Does the gearbox have a 'Sport' setting? This delays up changes to improve acceleration. If the dealers have taken 2 days not to sort this it could be an aspect they have overlooked!
I put my car in for a service and to fix a water leak into the passenger footwell. When I got the car back the blower switch now only works when turned to position 4. It was working fine before I put it into the garage, I always have the air con turned on at least in position 1. Any idea what could have happened? Could it be related to the water leak in some way? They did replace the pollen filter as the water had got into it. I have the manual aircon system not automatic temperature control one. Read more
Thanks, much appreciated advice. Janine

I have already replace airmass meter & fuel pump,I've swapped coil packs to see if cylinder fault moved, after road test when engine is under soft load it starts to missfire then evenually management light comes back on. Anyone any ideas? thankyou Read more
You have a 3rd key that needs coding in?
Im not 100% sure this method will work on an 05 focus, but its worth a try....
put 1st working key in ignition, turn until the dash warning lights are on, turn back and remove key.
put 2nd working key in ignition, turn until the dash warning lights are on, turn back and remove key.
put new key in ignition, and repeat above......
this must be done within a short timescale, could be 20 - 30 seconds?
hopefully you will now have 3 working keys.
