08 2.0 auto stays in low gears too long - higgy
My partner had a 2008 Renault Grand Scenic from new this year.
It has the 2.0l petrol engine with an auto gearbox.

When you drive the car it stays in low gears for too long making a lot of noise
and using too much fuel.
We have taken it back to our local Renault dealer - {generalised -DD} and they say that nothing is wrong
they say it is behaving as designed.

We are only getting 20-25 mpg. The car is noisy and is stressful to drive. If you select
manual and select a more appropriate gear then return to automatic the car changes
down.

I have requested a test drive of another car with the same engine/transmission
to see if the problem is replicated because the garage has analysed the gearbox
for 2 days and says no fault found.

I wonder if anyone else has had similar issues or if anyone knows whether another
fault can cause a delay in changing gear ?

How long are your journeys?
cats need to get hot asap, and most autos hold the gears to make the cat warm up quicker.
normally after about 20 miles the gearboxes change up earlier...

these days, cars are not meant to travel less than 20 miles in one trip, as owners of DPF diesels will im sure agree!

Does the gearbox have a 'Sport' setting? This delays up changes to improve acceleration. If the dealers have taken 2 days not to sort this it could be an aspect they have overlooked!
