Having watched one of those "police, camera, mayhem" type shows on television, for various reasons I thought I would get a professional assessment of my driving ability.
Having searched for driving schools in my area, I saw one offering "crash courses".
Hmmm.

The gas pedal on my almera has a tendency to stick when it's pressed down. When pushed down a little bit, there's often some resistance -- it feels like it won't go any further. Then it gives, and frees up again. It only sticks on the way down, and doesn't get stuck in the down position. Any ideas on what the cause may be, and a solution? Read more

There's still a few cables around; the odd thing on this one is that there's also a drive-by-wire set-up used too. Maybe it was only some that had cables on the early years.

I have a car Xantia Turbo 1997.When I open the cap of coolant reservoir which is at the extreme left of the engine near the head light ,I find some black oil in it.It is very small in quantity.

I got it checked from the technician he said that there is no problem of gas-ket, as there was no air bubble while giving it race.

My car temp reaches normally 75~85 in the city. When I am on auto routes and speed of 120~130 km/hr the temp drops to 70.The max temp in the car as per the need is 110 degree centigrade.

Can any body tell me what can be the problem.?When I see the manual of Turbo Xantia it shows hydraulics oil reservoir tank at the extreme left near the head light..is it true.May be I am confusing it with the coolant reservoir.

As I have to go for long journey..should I go or not..?

please reply in detail..thanks

Is this guy for real?

Not sure if this has been posted before or not.

I know (and be warned those that don't) that the French police take a somewhat dim view of camera detectors, whether they are working or not.

Question is, does this extend to my TomTom which picks up European traffic cameras? Read more

MikeH - all I can say is - Ha! I used to live in France and was on a C road - single track thing - going through a forest 30 miles south of Bordeaux. As I crossed a motorway bridge in the middle of nowhere I was flagged down by a Gendarme who then proceeded to check my car for bomb making equipment and firearms!!! I did ask why he was doing this and was I really someone in a Volvo 340 (white!) that was likely to be a terrorist. He mumbled something mentioning IRA, mumble mumble blah blah.

I have also been pulled over leaving a autoroute service station as well as being pulled at a peage. Nothing wring - just checking. (The peage was because I had lots of booze in the back of the car but I had the correct paperwork. The autoroute service one - I had some booze in the boot but no paperwork so bumbled my way through things)

My Daughter has a 1993 Ford Fiesta I think its 1.1.
She was driving along normally when suddenly he car lost transmision.
She got it towed back to her house.
The Engine runs ok and you can select any gear without using the clutch while the engine is running
Obviously the car doesnt move.
I can also put it in gear when the engine is off and push the car as if it is in nuetral.
Its a Hydraulic clutch I think and I can hear it creak when I get her to press the clutch pedel.
Do you think its the clutch that has broken? not letting the drive through to the gears or the gearbox itself? any advice appreciated. Simon Read more

Whether it's a fault in the clutch, or in the gearbox itself, the gearbox would need to come off to repair it. Unless you're going to do the work yourself, it might not be worth paying someone to do the work on a 15 year old car.

rooba63

When I fully depress the clutch pedal on my Focus it sometimes comes into contact with the bolt at the bottom of the steering column where it meets the floor.
Is this a common thing?
I only bought the car, which is just nine months old, a few weeks ago.
I'm sure my old Mk1 Focus had a rubber gaiter at the bottom of the column to stop this happening.
As this can potentially affect the steering it seems a bit dangerous. Read more

rooba63

HI, I think I should make this a bit clearer.

Does anyone know if there should be a rubber gaiter or something at the bottom of the steering column?

I'm a bit worried that the car may have had some kind of major repair before I bought it and this has been left off.

Thanks

My tt is a 2001 225hp, had problems with starting, dials not working then suddenley working, spoken to audi, they believe its the dashpod, been a problem with them from the start, offered a FREE replacement, only ever had a free car wash before and that was only after a large bill. Read more

Result! That replacement's worth a small fortune; by the time a brand new pod was fitted, configured and the immobilizer re-coded by a dealer, the bill would have been nudging a grand.

Nice to see a manufacturer putting their hands up about a "known problem" and doing the decent thing - any chance they could have a quiet word with Mazda; Renault-Nissan; Vauxhall; et al.

Talking Hoarse

My 18 yr old son has just bought a worthy 1972 Viva 1256 cc as his first car /project.
What is the right engine oil?
The book says 20/50 - but is GTX high mileage (ie 15/40) fit for use?
Eager to make use of new seal expander and anti burn additives but don't want to make matters worse etc.
Also ... any advice on sourcing bits as they are now very scarce in Northern scrap yards?
Many thanks for any advice. Read more

Victorbox

If you Google for Classic 20/50 you will find Duckhams & Halfords to name two still do a 20/50 oil. As suggested, the Viva Owners Club is the way to go. Having just returned from the annual Vauxhall Rally at Billing in Northamptonshire last weekend, there was quite a bit of Viva stuff there in the autojumble, so spares (even "new old stock") exist. I think it was last months Practical Classics mag that had a Viva Buyers Guide in it.

About to start looking into extending my Mazda's warranty. I've had good experiance with Genesis but since I got the car new I'm interested in keeping the Mazda warranty going.

Before I speak to the dealer, anyone got an idea of price, does it cover the same as the factory warranty? Any sort of feedback?

Thanks.

On our 2003 Premacy, we bought a Mazda extended warranty which included European breakdown assistance for about £ 400. Glad we did because 7 months later the driver's airbag module was replaced under warranty - cost for the part was £ 700. Good warranty
