Hi,

Does anyone know where I can locate the CO2 emissions details for a 2000 Audi A6 1.8T SE?

It isn't listed in the V5 doc.

I can't estimate it as I don't know what the current VED is.

Thanks. Read more

When pulling away from the Dartford tolls the other morning my TS2 (143) went haywire and enveloped the whole plaza in white smoke! As i'd just come off a night shift I thought I might have down changed in error, but the car ran rough for a few hundred yards but then picked up again before I had the chance to pull over. All seemed fine but it's since done it again but not as dramatically. The oil levels are fine, and the car was serviced at 12500 (now at 15000) There were no warning lights so I assume the ECU did not recognise a fault! Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it, or is there a known problem (aside from engines disintegrating elsewhere in the forums!) Performance seems normal, and the engine is running fine. Thanks for the reply. One of the first checks carried out was the injectors (obviously a known problem!) and this accounted for a whole day. As stated they are within tolerance. I was possibly doing more motorway miles when I first got the vehicle, but town driving still accounted for 90%+ of the mileage. Mazda ask a number of questions about driving syle and average journies, so I suspect this was always going to be the conclusion! I'll monitor the oil levels over the next month and post again. I'll trade in in May as I've had enough of the brand, which is a shame as the car is probably one of the best diesels I've driven (apart from the obvious!) It would be iteresting to know if dealerships are advising potential customers of this innovation!

Stompinsarah,

My first car was a Nissan Micra R reg. The most reliable car I have ever had. Maybe not the most cool. But economical, fun to drive. 1.0 ltr 16v. Nice and cheap to insure as well! My mate had a 1.3 KA, it was ok but the micra had a much nicer feel to it inside and a bigger boot.

That would definatly be my bet!! Good Luck

Thinking about this the other day, it occurred to me that the usual tactic (one police car in front, one behind, one atthe side and edging the stolen car towards the central reservation), while being probably the safest (and perhaps only) method, may have consequences if the stolen gar has a high centre of gravity and the central reservation has only a low barrier.

As far as I'm concerned it's solely the police's problem.

one of my neighbours has always driven off as they have turned the car on
whereas, i always wait for engine lights to go off, then start the car, then give it 5/10 seconds, then drive off

i get the impression they are in gear and moving and turning on at roughly the same time, is this good practice or not?
i like to get oil flowing 1st..
and they have needed 2 new gearbox's in their last two cars,

how many others on here have the same driving habits?

I move off about 15 seconds after start up from cold.
I have seen some drivers `force` (chopping wood motion) gear selection from cold, obviously not able to visualize or understand the selector forks and synchromesh cones.

How do they get through the test? Is mechanical sympathy not included?

Yes you may all laugh..I did to until I realised my beloved had landed himself a £60.00 fine payable in 2 weeks!!

I know the law on parking on a private car park is different but can a ticket be enforced on a 16year old driving on a provisional licence with no bank account or income as he will be returning to school in September?

As his parent I know who will cover the initial outlay but feel it is unjust that I have to cover fines when I have no real impact on his parking. I have had a word about the demons of parking tickets but hey teenagers..

any ideas would be gratefully received

well not all rules and laws are good ones and any child coming through now challenges the old styley rules and regs keeping us in place..give them an education and let them do the rest....

as yet there is no reply from the firm but having looked on the website I had to laugh as you get a customer reference number...

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to replace just the clutch release bearing on a 97 1.4 Zetec, or do you have to replace the whole slave?

I ask as we've just prised the bearing out as per the Haynes book of B.S. - at which point it took off at mach 2 across the garage, followed by the spring. Now we are in a position that the bearing won't stay in the slave cylinder as the spring keeps pushing it out!

Any ideas?!

Cheers

Another bit of bizarre research! How was the saving measured and is it worth having, if it exists? I think driving forwards into a space, if one can, has got to be better than juggling backwards and forwards.

When I park, I'm mainly concerned about how safe my car is from being bumped by other cars. I don't give the fuel cost a second thought. It's completely trivial in comparison with other factors.

Going to ask this in a seperate thread,

Can someone tell me how come when the price of oil goes up, it goes up straight away at the pumps, but when it comes down the pump price never moves. Read more

There is one BP garage in Basingstoke who is really taking the pink fluffy dice and cashing in, all the local garages are selling diesel for 132.9 (even the nearby small independent), however this particular garage thinks 140.9 is OK. I will never ever use this garage.

A 2.4 LTD automatic in a sort of ivory with leather and power seats to be exact. Underpowered dreadful auto transmission, between 17 and 18 mpg (US gallon), no handling to speak of (not needed on US roads in New England from what I saw). Seemed to be very solidly made though and in just over 2000 miles in two weeks seemed to take the wear and tear well. The privacy glass actually suited the car in many ways and didn't look at all out of place on it. The tiny boot took two suitcases - when they gave birth to a third (cheap shopping ! ) we had to carry that on the back seat. Delightfully thoughtful feature was a 150+ channel satellite radio - Blue Collar Radio - superb American humour. Even had BBC R1 and the World Service so I could keep track of UK news and more importantly the cricket.

Other US impressions - roads are quieter than the UK in general - poor state of repair and the cambers were odd, loved following the road numbers as directional signs were challenging - maintaining my belief that we do signs very well in the in he UK - very well. Turning right on a red is a doddle and should be implemented in the UK tomorrow ! There are three "rotaries" (roundabouts) in Maine - I found them all !! TomTom worked a treat outside of Boston. Parking bays are excellently sized - if you want a job open up as a MINI dealer, bucket loads over there and apparently sales are rocketing on the back of petrol prices ( 2 quid a US Gallon !) NYT yesterday carried an article on it.

Loads and loads of bikes in Maine - no helmet law seems very strange !! One bit of advice don't drive in Boston in a rainstorm whilst jet-lagged. (trust me). Brilliantly sociable people (thanks to Dave in Gloucester ME - we'd have been lost without your help) Playing the dumb Brit helps as well !!!

I fell in love with a Dodge Charger with a 6.1 Hemi - now that is a real old fashioned American car - the cops have them in Mass. All black with black alloys - very menacing, makes the 300 look a total cheese shop- I want one.

Bad news is that the US economy is in real melt down, and its heading our way. Read more
