I have a siemens NAVTAQ SAT NAV pre-installed in my Peugeot 406
This worked perfectly untill 6 months or so ago the display message read CD Missing or CD Unreadable.
Having searched some internet sites, I took out the CD Box from the Boot, opened it up and wiped the Lens with alcohol. This was after of course I had tried the dry air spray and cd cleaner which didnt work.
Magic, it worked but only for a few weeks, since then its been months and same old sign appears. I gave up in th eend and now have a portable SAT NAV which is far better and costs so much less than trying to spend any money on fixing the SAT NAV in the car.
Just posting this incase anyone has had similar probs (from what I read on other sites there are lots of people with this prob) and if anyone has managed to find a fix.
My CD does seem to have a few scratches when examines but they never stopped it from working previously for about a year Read more
Hi there I have a 406 estate 110HDI, when I was giving the engine the gun the other day there was a loud bang. I stopped and noticed that my back box had departed the centre section and replaced this. I now have excessive black smoke when I put my foot down and an engine light illuminated on the dash. I have investigated further and found that the hose at the lower front nearside has a large split in it. Is this connected to the turbo and is this giving me the problem?

Hi
I need to connect a bike light board to my 07 plate zafira. Any ideas what I need as local VX place has been useless.
Someone online said there was a single connector that vx make but I just cannot find details.
Thanks

Yes, if your Zafira has the large fuseboard in the side of the boot, then a 'plug-in' system is available. I fitted a tow bar to my 07 Astra H recently using one of these kits, and it's really easy. It completely avoids connecting wires into the rear circuits and ensures it doesn't affect the electrics of the car. Try www.towbarsdirect.co.uk/AstraElectrics.html . Witter bar and plug in kit about £170 all in (£70 of that for the lighting socket kit - which incidentally isn't a vauxhall part). Try a search for Zafira tow bar or similar and try a few towbar suppliers and get the plug in kit. Worth checking your car has the (I think) 'Type B' fuse board in the back of the car as not all Astra H models do.

Essentially, if you join a supercar type car club can you reclaim the VAT and if tying in the use of the vehicles around business trips, put the annual fee down as an expense?
Thought I would ask here, before asking my accountant as the HJ site is free and I am tight! Read more
The trouble is that HMRC love these 'Boys Toys' things. I spend alot of time resolving the issues that people create for themselves even after they've had great advice from others.
My advice is always the same:
If you can afford it do it personally from taxed income and forget the tax reliefs -
If you can't afford it that way DON'T DO IT.
That way no enquiries, no professional fees, no penalties and most importantly no stress.
Hi,
My Partners car has developed a leaking hose. It's on the offside by the alternator and seems to connect in 4 ways: Engine, top and bottom of Rad and onto a metal pipe that runs along top of rad. There seems to have been some repair to it in the past. Question is how to get to the connections at top and bottom of Rad and engine. Do I have to take bumper off? Advice appreciated.
Thanks

This car is the older shape Focus.
Mileage is 59K
The exhaust rattles at tickover and is getting worse. The idle speed is 750rpm with a tiny bit of fluctuation.
Recently it has had a genuine Ford(Fomoco) coil pack and leads.
The complete exhaust is genuine and all hangers are there.
I think the noise is coming from the exhaust manifold pipe with the flexible wire mesh join/bulb thingy
Are these a weak spot?
I have moved any heat shielding along the exhaust length out of harms way (that i can see)
Any ideas folks?

Check the heat shields attached to the underside of the car are not loose or able to vibrate - try tapping them with a rubber hammer. Another possibility is corroded/loose internal baffles in a silencer, if the noise appears to be coming from a silencer and not the cat. Again, a rubber hammer is a useful diagnostic tool to get things rattling (when the exhaust is cold!).
This may make you weep........
My poor neglected SIII needs to find a new home, but it hasn't moved for over a year has no MOT or insurance.
Would you sell it without MOT or try to get a ticket before selling it?
In theory it shouldn't need to have any work done to get its MOT but being immobile for about 14 months will have produced some problems, I'm sure.
It's a 1982 Y reg 2.25 diesel County - very genuine with 74,000 miles on it. Any idea what it's worth?

Don't worry, scrapping it was never an option, it was a daft indulgence a couple of years ago, but it doesn't make any sense to keep it that's all so I'll get it MOT'd and then wait for someone like me of three years ago who is looking for a really nice, original SWB.
If I drive a friends car which is not currently insured (is taxed and mot'd) using the 3rd party cover of my own policy, is it legal to leave it A) parked on the road or
B) in a retail shopping centre car park
as I presume it would then be classed as uninsured.

Which is why you need to have your certificate with you when driving a vehicle that has no policy of its own then. Otherwise it's your word against the police and it will be impounded.
Hi
Im looking for a bit of advice on documentation.
I purchased an extended warranty along with my used car in feb and to date I have not had any documentation saying that I have this warranty, only thing I have is on the sales invoice. Despite repeated requests to the garage I bought it from, and the head office of the group, I have met a brick wall.
Further, my car has had some repairs carried out by the same garage and they have not provided me with any documentation saying what works have been done, I understand that I need these documents for a guarantee.
Am I legally entitled to any documentation for the warranty and repairs?
Regards

Who did you buy the warranty from? Is it separately itemised on the invoice?
If it's a third party provider you should be hearing from them.
If it's the garage, effectively insuring themselves, I'd have thought you're still entitled to know the terms and conditions of what you've bought.
HTH a bit.
