I have a Golf 1.6 automatic. Engine code BFQ. With the car stationary and engime ticking over i get crankcase fumes sucked in through the heater intake.I've found a couple of split breather pipes and sealed them up with gaffer tape and plastic clips. Are there any other breather pipes tucked away somewhere that i haven't yet found. Thanks in anticipation. Read more
Engine prob still not sorted, but will keep all informed, however, have noticed that temperature guage remains half way between hot and cold whether engine on or not and fuel guge is the same - are they related, any ideas on how to solve this ??
Subject header given a more meaningful title. Also when the box asks for "Year of manufacture", it means just that, the YEAR, not the first letter prefix of the numberplate Read more
Hi all
I think it's time to change the rear suspension spheres on my Mi16 x4 as the suspension is getting pretty hard. The hydraulic pump is working ok so I know its not that. I'm assuming the job is similar to the Citroen BX sphere change so can anyone tell me where the best place is to get the spheres and possibly give me a rough guide on how to change them please?

Hi We need to change the Wifes 3 Door Clio for a 5 Door one - Preferably it'll be the same or slightly newer,
Could I put an Ad on AT asking this or Would it be a case of selling it 1st then just buying another ??
The Clio we have is 2001 with 42000 miles and FSH so it's pretty nice.
The wife wants the same 1.4 16v as it's pretty nippy (95bhp I think) and returns 40mpg.
Is there any other cars this size we could look for - Must have A/C though and be about £3k

Talking to a barrister friend of mine who was heading to court to defend a credit hire case.
You know the scenario: "Had a no-fault accident, let us repair your car, here's a free hire car, and we'll claim it all back from the other party."
Well, apparently the car hire ends up costing the other party more as it is on credit - often considerably more. There is case law that says that if you can afford to you should hire the car yourself and then apply for a refund from the other party. You are failing to mitigate your loss if you use a credit-hire car.
At the bottom of the agreement you sign, it will say "I agree that if repair & hire company fails to recover its costs from the third party that I will pay the difference."
So the moral is, don't use these firms unless you really cannot afford to hire a car yourself.

when i used one of these companies, they assured me that i wouldn't have to pay a bean. After having a Mercedes C200 Kompressor for a week I started to worry about it, so queried it again, they faxed me over a letter confirming i wouldn't be personally liable.
Sure enough, when the CPS dropped the matter at Magistrates Court and the insurance companies faffed... I still didn't have to pay anything...and i had the car for a month. I never did prove the other driver liable.
The rear passenger indicator works intermittently. (Its not the bulb).
Is there anywhere predicatable that the faulty connenction could be?
It may be a coincidence but the "door open" warning light is also on all the time even though all the doors/boots is shut? Read more
Can anyone confirm that the Ford Fusion is about to cease production? If so, when?
I was about to buy either a new 1.6tdi or an older 1.4tdi. Anyone got any experience of these models? If I don't go for one, what is another potential 70mpg car to think about?
Gratefully..... Read more
If you need the extra space (over the Fiesta), which is the only reason I can think of for buying the Fusion then get one of the following, which have as much if not more space, are far more flexible and just as economical:
Fabia estate
Pug 207 SW
Toyota Yaris
Vauxhall Meriva
There are no doubt others as well - I looked at all of those plus the Modus when I came to change cars last year and ended up with another old style Fabia estate to replace my old one, the only ones which came close to the flexibility and room were the Yaris and Meriva. Wouldn't touch a Fusion with a barge pole....
Hi,
I recently watched this Quentin Wilson-fronted episode of ITV's "Tonight" (tinyurl.com/4bxupm) and wondered how to determine whether my 2005 Corolla D-4D (114) Manual can be run directly on supermarket vegetable oil.
I need some help as to where to find this info.
Thanks. Read more

Brill! I laughed out loud at that my Mum lives over 400 miles away so
trying to sort out computer problems with a 92 yo silver surfer can be said
to be difficult!!
Sorry to go off topic but I have the same problems with suppoting computers over a long distance. There is a free remote access application which I use and it's very good. It's called LogMeIn. If you go to logmein dot com you can dowbload the free version there. You have to install it on the host PC so you have to make one visit in person but after that it's great.
Of course if they can't get on to the Internet at any time!!!!!

My K reg Fiesta has just failed its MOT due to corrosion on the seat belt anchorage.
Obviously I need to get this fixed to get back on the road.

Best to get it done by the MoT place or someone they recommend;at least,it won't be failed on the welding.
Whats this stuff when its at home? I filled the Picanto up with it today, just to try it.
Said its 97 RON - how does it compare to the higher octane BP/Shell fuels? Is it infact one of those repackaged or is it something else? Read more

I'm assumiing you are not referring to me. otherwise the boys will be sent round...:-)
It's always been 99RON at the two local Tescos I use (an occasional full tank full is intended to help clean the Bora's engine); I should also point out that the website to which I provided a link is the actual supplier to Tesco of this particular fuel.
you need to replace the breather pipes, they do get hot so any adhesive or for that matter the gaffer tape might get hot and start to leach in to the system via the air intake recirculation , not good for the carb
