I have a 2004 mondeo 2.0 105PS TDCi which has a awful flat spot from exactly 2500rpm onwards in any gear. Power at this point drops away as is the turbo was being switched off. Overtaking? forget it! Apart from this the engine is fine. There's no misfiring or excess smoke from exhaust. No engine management lights and it starts easily.

The car has done 194,000 miles though as is used as a taxi.

any ideas?

It does sound like a possible turbo failure. There's plenty of hoses round the turbo and intercooler that may have split that could also cause similar issues.

When was it? Is there anything like this available now? I am sure my kids will love it. Especially that there will be a stall with computer games there where they can play. Read more

I doubt KwikFit have done anything wrong, the 306's aircon is notorious for going wrong.

Best to go to a specialist, as they will know all the weak spots on the system.

We're considering changing my wife's 2005 1.6 Zetec Climate 5d Hatch (petrol), shortly (next couple of months). The car will be 3 years old in Sept, and we usually keep our cars within warranty periods therefore <3years.
I thought this would be easier than it's turning out to be.
I liked the look and idea of a 57 Astra 1.9CDTI Design in Motorpoint, as the price was within budget (about 3-4K on the Focus). But the boot was tiny, the spec says 350 litres but no way would it fit a pushchair in.
Read a few reviews on good used buys and they all recommend the Focus, so what do you buy once you've had a Focus?

Criteria, I need a 4-5d car. Fits a pushchair in the boot, reliable and credible (wife would be keen on a Daewoo type thingy) badge. Would love a Golf GT TDI but this isn't within budget, not even the streched budget.

We haven't ruled out keeping the current Focus, but this would then cost more to change in the future. Read more

Bear in mind that 2007/07 Vectras are going for £6k now if you're after the 1.8 Life base model, which is adequate but no more - but then a Vectra is not an emotional purchase.

Had a very short drivette in one of these this evening, a courtesy car with only 1600 miles on it given promptly to a friend by his own insurance after his wife's Golf 1.6 auto had been trashed by a passing lady driver while parked.

Didn't have a chance to really sample the engine of course, but it does seem a naturally rapid motor. Leaving the lever in D, and pussyfooting in the traffic, it seemed to stay in the bottom two gears even when one gave it a little prod and lifted off. Autos usually change up then, but this one didn't. However a harder prod on the pedal made it, to my amazement, change up a gear and bolt forward instantly like a jackrabbit. Wouldn't have minded getting it on the road for a few hours. It really wanted to go quickly. Read more

I have changed blocks on a CG10DE engine with multi coil packs, the doner block came from a distibutor type, obviously I have used original head and Injection system.
The only way I could get it to start was to advance the cam timing one link from the standard settings.
I stoped it after 5 secs now again will not start and sounds like timing fault but this has not moved, anybody come accross this problem.
The specs for the engines are the same bore and stroke but 1kw more at 4000rpm

Just a "flight of fancy" I should think.
Or maybe he's just sold a car to Bill Oddie.
Or perhaps he's been rummaging about in the undergrowth with Kate Humble......and who could blame him ?
Maybe he is Bill Oddie.

Hello all.

I have a Yaris 1.5L petrol which has done 68,000miles in 5 years.

Recently I have become aware of a medium-pitch growling whilst driving. The noise is louder with increased 'speed', and is louder if I am in too high a gear. If I am traveling at 70mph the noise is REALLY loud, but if I then depress the clutch and keep the engine revving at 3500rpm, the noise goes away!

If the car is free-wheeling in neutral there is no noise. If the car is coasting in gear the noise is still present. So I was thinking it is somewhere in the drivetrain and might be clutch-dependent. Oh who am I kidding, I don't know!

My fuel economy is as good now as when I got the car. Full Toyota service history. Nothing was seen on a recent dealer visual inspection performed alongside an MOT.

Any help for a newbie would be very much appreciated.

Cheers.
