Hi All,
I'm trying to change the ignition switch on a 1998 406.
Screwloose has been giving me excellent advise in diagnosing an ignition switch electrical fault.
I have removed all the trim panels and wiring connectors now, but I just cannot release the ignition switch metal clip (behind the lock housing).
I've tried everything, and the clip itself is now all bent to bits, but is still in place. I don't want to use brute force in case I damage the lock housing ...
Any ideas ?
Thanks

Hi folks,
I am selling my old car on ebay as we speak and need to transfer my personalised plates off it before I sell it.
Has anyone done this as I have a question....
If I go down to the DVLA today and get the transfer onto retention sorted, will I get a new V5C immediately or will they have to send me one in the post?
If so, how will that affect me selling the car (auction finishes Saturday morning so buyer may want to collect Sunday).

I have had a complete attack of madness! We were driving past an independent Merc garage and i saw a CLK 3.2convertible and before I could get a grip on sanity out came the credt card, down went a deposit, the old diesel was exchanged and I have a pretty 'ungreen'car. I am just so browned off with motoring taxes and general anti motoring councils that this is a two fingers job to the lot of them......it may skint me but I drive round with a smile on my face. wll post after a while to let anyone interested know how the car and me get on. No,the 320 does not have a 'kompressor' as MB call superchargers.
Gist of the report is that Swindon is considering spending the £400K annual budget for speed cameras on other road safety measures.

My understanding of this story is that Swindon plan to spend the £400k they would save on other "traffic calming" measures which they feel would be more effective - humps, pinch points, etc...
So I'm not sure why some are getting excited by it - I'd rather have a clear road with a strictly enforced speed limit (by cameras if neccessary) than humps/pinch points...
did not notice this is a uk site because i am in usa. but, i am going to ask my question anyway.
here is a small list
1. 2003 audi a4, 59k miles, 13k cash
2. 2005 saab 93, 42k miles, 11k cash
3. 2008 vw jetta wolfsburg, 0k miles, 23k (finace available)
4. 2009 vw jetta tdi, 0k miles, 23k (finace available)
having a really hard time to pick from this list. every car has the up and
down sides. it is for a mom with one baby. have to consider safety and gas price. can anybody give any advice?
thanks in advance.

Being in the UK, we don't know the difference in trim between the Jettas, although we know that they are Golfs (Rabbits) with trunks.
The trunk will be huge compared to the Audi and Saab, and may therefore be more useful for a mom and baby. Most people on here would advise you to stay clear of the Saab - unreliable, clumsy and bascially a Euro repmobile in drag.
The Audi is a nice car, but five years old, although in American terms barely run in.
I think you not comparing like with like as the second hand cars are too old to compare with the new Jettas.
What is the price difference between diesel and gas in the US and how many miles with the mom do each year?
not coming up on google search?

You're welcome.
Hi,
I am planning to by the ex Motability Hundai (2005, 05 Reg, Milage 18000) for £4000. Could you please let me know, whether this car is worth that money or not.
I am the first time buyer and do not great deal about cars. So your suggestions are welcome. Thanks,

Thanks daveyK_UK,
For your suggestion.
I have a zetec 1.6 - fairly often when the car is stationary and on idle, the rev counter will not stay constant, it will vary from 600rpm - 1000rpm. i think the normal setting is 750rpm. This does not happen all the time but 1 in 4 times, that i stop.
Also when accellerating from low revs - the car often misses, and sounds bubbly!
any ideas where to start?? i have read other posts regarding coil packs - is this likely?? Read more
Does anyone know of a specialist able to test diesel for possible contamination?. I am based in North Essex near the Hertfordshire border. Thanks. Read more
No need to test the diesel that I put in my car on saturday evening as the fuel supplier has admitted liability for suppling contaminated diesel. In my case, my car broke down about 1 mile from the service station and couldn't be re-started by the AA. The AA man checked the fuel, before attempting to re-start. He said it was definately diesel, but "a bit cloudy" and towed me home. The contaminant was water and the sample of the diesel I have from the VW garage is quite turbid , so I suspect there might also be some surfactant present. I think water contamination of diesel must be be rare, because I think the VW dealership didn't believe water contamination at first, but they do now after having to fix more cars that filled up at the same service station as me. Anyway, after flushing out the fuel system, the car appears to be OK, although I wonder if any damage has been done. At least the Fuel supplier admitted the contamination quickly, but it must have been pretty obvious.

I think the last time I did this I got the tax disk with the original reg number on it when I handed in the form at the DVLA office. I then put the original plates on the car and had to wait a few weeks before the V5 came back with the original number.
You could go ahead with the deal but it's risky as you mentioned because of speeding and parking fines. Until you get the V5 back and then sign it over to the new owner you are still the registered keeper.
I wouldn't risk it myself.
