The alarm should set when locked up with either the key in the drivers lock, or via the remote fob. An LED should illuminate on the dashboard just above the radio, and approx 10 seconds later start to flash. If it flashes while being set, then it is indicating a fault.

The only way to turn of the alarm is via the remote fob, or by placing the key in the ignition.

To test the alarm, lock the car, wait for approx a minute to settle down, then unlock the drivers door with the key and open it. The alarm will sound (and he hazzards will flash) until you either press the fob buttons or put the key in the ignition.

To test the internal movement sensors, open a window wide open and tape a sheet of newspaper in its place. Set the alarm, wait approx a minute, then punch through the newspaper with your fist. Reason being, the sensors are more sensitive to pressure differences than they are to movement. Yes, you will probably be able to trigger them by frantically waving your hand/arm in through the window, but I've always found that punching through a sheet of newspaper works better.

This of course is providing you actually have an alarm. Not all Vectra-B's came with them as standard fitment. What trim model is yours, and can you see the LED on the dash, and the internal movement sensors at the top of the B pillars?

hi dynamic dave,
thankyou for takeing the time to reply to my message, not quite sure what you mean by trim model all i can say it is a vauxhall vectra arctic 16v 1.8 hatchback and no there is no LED on the dash and no internal movement sensors at the top of the B pillars,so would i be right in saying i have no sounding alarm.... just an anti-theft locking system and immobilizer.
thanks zigzag.

By trim model I mean, Club, LS, GLS, CD, CDX, etc.

You've identified it as the Artic, which didn't come with an alarm as standard. As you've already mentioned, only deadlocking, and a Thatcham Cat2 approved immobiliser is fitted.
