My latest problem is the 5 disc front loading cd changer. It started not playing some cds in some slots & now has got one stuck & won't release it. I've found a repair kit for it from carradiospares.co.uk Apparently in consists of a set of replacement gears. I ordered it a few days ago but it hasn't arrived yet. Has anybody tried this kit.

To settle a bet with regard to less enlightened times.
My recollection concerning breath tests for alcohol whilst driving in the 1970's is that there was a sort of informal practise whereby they were not used for accidents that occurred in the morning as they might catch someone who had been drinking the night before and this was though unfair.
Am I totally losing it in my dotage or do others recall such a thing? Read more
By todays standards its not in the slightest bit unreasonable.
My point was that a totally different attitude towards drinking/ driving prevailed in the seventies. If you got caught you were considered to be "unlucky" and could expect a 6 month ban - 12 months perhaps if "really unlucky". Nowadays you would be considered a potential child killer and would be punished accordingly.
Not saying what went on in the seventies was right, but that's the way it was - I passed my bike test in 1966 and car in 1970, BTW, and have somehow managed to keep it clean till now although I do believe I'm on borrowed time!
HI all
can you help, my mate knocked my door this afto and has just bought this volvo 740 for pennys i think and he asked me what this light is on the dash board its on the left hand bottom of the clock cluster below the fuel gauge and looks like a capitol T that has fallen over to the right and is in a triangle if you understand is goes on and off and also the fuel gauge is also not working I dont know if that is connected in any way? any ideas guys Read more
It's certainly not a 1.8. May well be 1986cc (B200 engine) - or 2316cc (B230 engine).
Suspect a 940 SE would be the 1986 cc unit. It will have a CAT, which explains the lambda sensor light. As has been mentioned, fuel gauge could be earthing, although the sender unit on these was not noted for being the most trouble-free. IIRC, it includes a lift pump, and was between £150 - £200 to replace when they were current.
I have SE estate that has lately had rear brakes seizing on. My garage ( who are usually good) have replaced both rear brake hoses and the caliper on off side. Prior to this one side then another would stick on and overheat. The front brakes do not stick on or overheat. The ABS seems OK. These replacements have not worked and the near side is now sticking on again. The car is not used much c 1500 mls per year. Any advice welcome

Check it's not the handbrake cable that is causing the caliper to stay seized on.
If you detach the handbrake cable from each caliper and then take it for a spin or otherwise check to see if the caliper is seizing then. If you've had the hoses replaced and a caliper then it can't be that (I assume the replacement caliper is new ?)
I had a '95 P10 Primera and replaced the off-side rear caliper thinking it was seizing on. But new caliper didn't cure the problem, it recurred shortly after I had pulled the handbrake on hard, a mile down the A66 i had smoke billowing from the wheel!
Upon closer examination, it turns out that the handbrake cable has to do a sharp turn on this model of Primera and this put stress on the outer sheathing causing it to split and then let in water...which is when it starts rusting and then sticking.
later P11-144 (99 - 02) don't have the same right-angle bend of the handbrake cable so it must have been a problem else Nissan wouldn't have changed it....
cheers

anyone seen this advertised? I wonder if people will buy it in droves (like a bread maker, ice cream maker, chocolate fountain, toastie maker) then find that it is more bother than it is worth for such a low return, mileage wise, after an 8hr charge.
I also guess that the "up to 40 miles on a single charge" depends whether, like me, you are carrying a bit of timber round the waistline, or are a pencil necked 28" waist concave chest spindly legs type!
"Firebox has launched a fully road legal, electric scooter for less than a £1000.
The Chinese-made Ego Street Scoota will let you zip around the city using bus lanes, avoiding congestion charges and cutting out queues, all without buying petrol or paying for road tax.
Powered by an onboard battery that's recharged via the mains, it boasts a range of up to 40 miles with a top speed of 30mph and it the claim is that it only costs 8 pence to charge (8 hours needed for a full juice up) and of course, is super eco-friendly.
If you passed your driving test prior to February 2001, you do not need a license to ride the Street Scoota, otherwise you'll need to take the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course.
The bike measures 189 x 73 x 100cm, weighs 104 kilograms, comes complete with a back box and is on sale now from Firebox for £999.95."

When I was in Brisbane the place was littered with leccy scooters, just sitting there with a helmet dangling from the bars. Seems all you need to do is download an app. Pay one dollar to hire them and fifteen cents a mile. Scan a qr code then off you go. When the power is low you leave it on the pavement and young lads.. juicers. Come round and swap the scooter. It phones in when the power is low. Sheer genius and I was struck by the honesty shown. Unlike London I suppose. Called something like Lime bikes. Wish we had the same.
I have read on some Ford Focus owner's reviews that the water (coolant) pump has failed at low mileages e.g. less than 40 000 miles. I am worried because I own a Ford Focus 1.8 petrol which is a 1999 model and has 74k on the clock.
I found this link which gives some information on how long OEM pumps last :

From your experience how many miles or years do Ford water pumps last for ?

Help needed please!! Have had Air flow sensor replaced (177)+light still coming on+car still shuddering in 4th gear.
2 independent garages have put it on meter and both said that it is faulty Air flow sensor and that is causing the problems.
However, took car back to first garage who replaced the thing and they have said it is idle control valve that needs replacing (£140) as this is causing problems.
I have had it cleaned first, including throttlebody, and problem persists.
What can/should i do next? Car is driving me mad and not safe to drive. Read more

My 306 HDI 2000/W has a loud knocking sound and harsh ride at about 50-70mph. The car vibrates as if driving over small bumps in the road but the problem seems to go if you drive above 70? The tyre pressures are all ok, maybe the balancing is out or suspension issues? Any ideas please Read more
"Also there is excessive wear on the inside of both rear tyres"
New rear subframe time then.....
Hi,
My dads Y Reg micra has just had its air con recharged and now the 4 speed fan control only runs on the fastest speed, with or without the air-con on?
Could the garage that did the recharge have done something to upset the fan control??
They say its unrelated and his new problem is a job for the main dealer....
Any advice or technical knowledge on how to fix would be app.. cheers. Read more
A very common fault on Nissans.
You need a heater fan resistor.
The resistor is located behind the glovebox. No need to remove the glovebox. Just look up.
There is a connector with 4 or 5 wires on. Squeeze the latch on it to remove the plug.
There are 2 crosshead screws either side of the connector. Pull to remove. It looks like a credit card
A new resistor will cost £25-£35 from the Nissan dealer.
If you can solder, the resistor can be repaired by scratching either side of the 'blob' on the card to expose copper and re-soldering.

Update car went in garage on tuesday and had a new cylinder head temp sensor fitted done over a hundred miles since and no fans.A big thanks to screwloose cause garage didnt have a clue until i mentioned it to them.
