Been playing with one of these new small Flip Video cameras
Seems the ideal camera to satisfy my long held desire to have a cheap simple video of the road ahead, certainly gives a good enough picture of the road ahead to give "police, camera, action" a run for its money
Now it will only record an hours worth, but the buttons are mega simple and ideal for control while driving, would be easy to reset every hour
Now all I need is a suction cup for the screen a la GPS but with a camera tripod mount to hold this small camera, and idea where to get one?
Then the next "£$"£$"£ to crash into me and then subsequently lie about it will find some video footage in court
Even cheap enough to have one pointing backwards too
Will also be interesting next time a police motorbike decides to cut me up like a hooligan
Thoughts?

If I change my engine, straight swap, same power, size just a lower mileage, do i need to inform DVLA and or insurance?
If so, do i need any documents from the donor car?
What if i got an engine from a scrapyard, would they give me the documents i needed?
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the replies and advice.
While driving near Pwllheli recently I spotted a motorist being
booked by the local constabulary.
The police car, with flashing lights in it's radiator grille was a grey
Skoda estate. Alas I could not get the number but be warned!
Having seen the comment re Welsh Nationalists in today's Telegraph
HJ might like to report this in the paper too.

Currently in Kent isa transit connect tricked out to look like a builders van, blue lights in the grill.
Also V6 Mundeo with roof box with blue lights in the roof box!
My Diesel Accord, which has done about 53k miles has started making a puff of exhaust smoke on starting. It otherwise is running well (MPG over 50mpg of late - amazing compared to some reports) and I use Shell standard fuel. Oil level is fine. Should I wait until next service (several months away) or is this likely to merit early attention? Read more
blue = oil possibly worn valve seals/stems

Or on a TDI far more likely oil seapage in turbo bearings, usually not a problem unless it gets really bad. My A4 TDI 140 usually gives a very slight puff of blue smoke on cold start after having been driven long and hard the previous day, and it has less than half of your mileage.
I'm considering buying a folding bike. They come in all sizes, 16/20/26 inches wheels and with/out gears etc.
Also price varies widely from £90 to £300.
In near future, I shall be using it for going to station 2 miles from home and carrying it on train.
Any recommendation?

Think it rather depends on how busy the train is - the old "guards compartments" have largely gone on commuter trains which means that the bikes are put in the "passenger" section - if the train is quiet or you join early enough in the journey there isn't a problem, but some of the London bound trains get wedged and a full sized bike in a tight space is not a comfortable bedfellow!
A short and sweet question about my Dads car- with all the mither about DPFs is there a quick way of telling if a car is fitted with one? Hes got a 2007 318d built in march 2007 ie pre efficient dynamics and all that malarkey and I'm not sure if it has one or not. It doesn't seem to smoke much/at all but I put that down to it being pretty new. BMW dealer was no help and brochures there only talk about the new efficient dynamics models which have them. Can't seem to find anything about 07 models.
Anyone any ideas? Read more
A couple of ways to tell. If you go into the screens telling you when it next needs a service on the little dashboard computer (keep pressing the end of the indicator stalk and flicking the flicky thing on the stalk) - there will be a screen for the Diesel particulate filter if it has one - at least there is a screen on my 330d.
Another way which is less scientific - look at the exhaust pipe. My 330d has done over 30k miles, but the inside of the exhaust pipe is sparkly new still. I've never had this with any other diesel car, and put it down to the dpf.
hope this helps.
gabble
Driving today, Mrs Dipstick who knows nothing about cars, nothing about computers and nothing about the HJ forum, to my utter bemusement suddenly shouted at the car in front,
"Don't mimse! Hoon!"
I can only assume I've been replaying threads in my sleep. I need a holiday.

Luckily she doesn't wear a bonnet. Not often anyway.
Considering how dangerous it is to make proper Bio-Diesal for modern cars to run on, which is also debatable, this is amazing

Could this replace Bio-diesel? Henry Ford produced his model T to run on ethanol! Read more
Joking aside, many people used to carry a gun in their cars. I never did, maybe through a lack of wits or a deep stupidity but I could never bring myself to do it. I just used to rely on looking too poor to bother with and somehow, albeit unintentionally, still manage to give that general impression. ;-)
I have a broken rear spring on my Omega 2.5v6 petrol. How do I replace . Is it just a matter of jacking up car ,removing road wheel, using spring compressor to compress and remove old spring and using same to put in new one locating on projecting lugs top and bottom. That is apart from above I do not need to dismantle anything else.
I would appreciate any help and confirmation or not whether above is correct.

handbrake on jack the side up with the broken spring so the wheel is just still on the floor remove the bottom shock absorber bolt then continue to jack the car up untill the wheel is a couple of inches in the air shove a axle stand under for safety reasons, with the help of a second party place a stout piece of wood/bar and leaver between the top of the wheel and the inner wing whilst laying under remove the spring, whack the new spring in whilst still leavering and reassemble
In mumble mumble years of self maintenance, sadly no more due to the complexities of common rail diesels and computer controlled everything else. I have only had two car stopping breakdowns, (other than the odd puncture). One was the moving contact of a set of points snapping off, the other the low tension wire snapping at the coil. I have yet to suffer the common rail diesel disaster predicted by some, am I leading a charmed life? What stopped your car? Read more
Dirt in the fuel in about 1970. Nothing since.
