I was wondering if anyone has had their instrument panel repaired or replaced and recoded a used one?
My trip computer is faulty and some of the LED's appear to be failing. I tried spraying the PCB with a sealant and that worked for a day or two and then back to before.
I've seen posts on other sites saying to replace a voltage regulator on the board but I can't find anywhere which sells those parts so I'm stuck.
Has anyone else successfully fixed this? It sucks that a £30k car has a failing instrument cluster after only 6 years.

The 'Watchdog' tv programme suggested that WD40 on the Printed Circuit Board contacts could clear this problem. They didn't say where the PCB is located, is it by the speedo in the instrument cluster?
Can anyone confirm or otherwise please and if possible, tell me how to get to the PCB.

Saw a stunning Aston Martin drop head (DB9) today as a hire car outside Manchester Piccadilly station, I think it's Avis?? Just by the Hotel.
Hi I loaded a new map to my Citroen Xantia lastnight, using a KWP2000 USB box but about halfway through, the power cut out in my house and on trying to reload the file I'm getting either the message ECU not found or ECU not kicking.
I hope there's something that I can do with the KWP2000 to repair the ECU as I assume it is only a software issue. I don't really want to spend money on a new ECU unit if this isn't necessary.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Many Thanks

SORRY FOR PREVIOUS POST, SUBJECT LINE WAS TRUNCATED!
I can?t even find it! Haynes makes it sound difficult & awkward including removing engine mounting. Any tips? Does the auto box make it harder? Thanks in advance.
{removed double entry of engine cc - this info gets added from the compulsory boxes you fill in when composing your post, so no need to add separately to the subject line} Read more

My car radio\CD , a CDR500, has quite frequent reception dropouts, when using FM radio. These last less than a second, so with speech, one will miss a word here and there. CD playback is fine. I did a search but found nothing, any ideas please? Many thanks Richard Read more
Hi
I have a 2000 306 Hdi, she has been running fine for the last while after a few problems, one being changing the low pressure fuel pump in the tank. But she has been running great.
At the weekend i put £20 of maxol fuel in which is 5% biodiesel. then after a trip of 80 miles i refilled the car to the neck, this was 4 days ago. The carf and been starting and running great.
This moring i went to start the car and she will not start. The batt is great as it is new and the car just keep turning over but will not start. almost as if there is no fuel, but there is a full tank. I have tried a rolling start down a hill but this would not start her either.
any ideas what the problem might be?

Update
Got the car towed to the mechanic last night, and tried to tow start it a few times, the engine starts and runs, but nothing happens when trying to accerlate, and when the clutch was dipped the engine would die, so no diesiel is being injected into the engine. hopefully its a small problem, thanks for the help guys
Hi
i am having a problem with Fuel intake on a BMW 318i (96).
I recently ran low on petrol, the petrol light had been on for about 15- 20 miles.
Any ways it would not start and was just juddering, then stallign if i applied the accelerator.
I then refueled using cans (the gauge reads just under half a tank!) but still the car will not start.
Could any one offer any suggestions to the problem and how to resolve, i would be most greatful.

Turn the key on and listen for the sound of fuel passing through the fuel rail.
If you don't hear it; check the fuel pump fuse and listen under the back seat for the sound of the pump.
It may have run dry and seized.
I was driving my car yesterday when i noticed steam/smoke seaping through the bonnet. I pulled over & lifted the bonnet up & smoke/steam was coming out big time. I then looked under the car & water was leaking out from somewhere maybe the water pipe or somewhere.
I'm not great with cars as you have probably guessed, but this man came over to have a look & he said it wasnt the head gasket, he said it was just a pipe/hose leak?
I then started the car & drove it for two miles to get it home & it was fine, except for the smoke billowing out of the engine & the leak.
Any help & how much this will cost would be greatly appreciated?

Also my alarm doesn't work but that has never worked! Read more

Well; if it didn't have a blown head gasket to start with - it will now.....
In ifithelp's "That's something you rarely see these days" thread, pmh wrote "What would be interesting, is to take all the items listed in this thread and identify the last car to which they were fitted."
Which got me thinking. What (& when) was the last mainstream car marketed . . .
without power assisted steering as standard?
with an old school diesel engine (i.e. not common rail / pd / high pressure)?
without ABS?
And there must be dozens of others that could be added to this list.
The passing of these things is of historic interest, but no-one ever draws attention to it, because the manufacturers concerned would really rather not have the publicity. (Who wants to look like a dinosaur?) But someone must have bought the last mainstream new car in Britain without ABS! It would be fascinating to know what it was.

The Land Rover is indeed an honest vehicle. It's not just ABS. You can still get it with wind up windows.
But the fact that ABS is optional suggests that perhaps it is not to be thought of as a mainstream car. I've never seen a group test in a car mag which featured the Land Rover. It was and is, somehow, . . . different. In fact, when I was growing up, I'm sure that I thought that a Land Rover was not a car, it was a Land Rover - in a class of its own.
(Defender? Pah! It's a LAND ROVER!) :-)
