?Telling people at a dinner party you drive a Nissan Almera is like telling them you?ve got the ebola virus and you?re about to sneeze.?

This disgraceful slur is described on the Autotrader review site as one of "Jeremy Clarkson's 48 best quotes."

I thought a lot before buying my Almera. It's automatic, has a sun-roof, seats 5 and has a 6 CD player with decent speakers. In the colour I chose, it actually looks quite good. It may have a rather brittle ride but, as described above, it gave me good value for all I could afford at the time.

Is it me? Do I have no sense of humour? Or is it that I can't see the joke because I'm not a wealthy, public school educated toaster like Clarkson. Read more

Wish to convert my 1997 Galaxy to Remote CL. Already has manual CL so has anyone
found a simple way to convert to remote CL? Loads on Ebay but they seem to offer the
CL solenoids which I don't need. All I want is a unit which will simulate the key being
locked/unlocked.

Does anyone know if the lighter socket on a Xantia is live when the ignition is off? I know the radio isn't. I go out and test it but the battery is barely powering the clock.

I want to remove the battery to charge it, and I don't want the hassle of the Xantia reset the alarm palaver. I've tried to start it with a jump booster battery and it didn't do much good. I've got a 66ah battery in it at the moment and I'm thinking of popping a battery in the passenger footwell and connecting it via the lighter socket. Maplins do a lighter socket to lighter socket jump lead which would possibly do, the jumper battery has a lighter socket in it so I could connect it that way and just use it to power the radio code and alarm until the main battery is charged again.

The car is parked in the road, so all solutions must involve locking it with no external battery on the street. Read more

I've bowed to the inevitable and taken the battery off the car and put on a charger in the shed.

My daughters just bought a 98 1.9 diesel turbo 306 (3 door model) and having put fresh batteries in the remotes used the deadlock feature last night having serviced it.
The deadlock on the drivers side appears on the face of it this morning to be seized.
There are also peculiarities in the lock unloc/bouncing locks.
Is it a case of strip the doors down or do I just need to re-sync the infra red keys to the car?
Any help advice mucch appreciated. Read more

it's likely it's suffering from the usual broken wires in the door loom. if you pull back the rubber cover going to the wiring block between the door and a pillar you will probably find one or more wires either broken or the insulation damaged and short circuiting. do a forum search has been covered plenty of times.

Does anyone know when the Ford Kuga is out, it looks fab!!!

www.ford.co.uk/safari/coming_soon/ms_f07_kuga/ms_g.../-

my only concern is, although they state its low co2 emissions, could you still place it in the usual 4x4 bracket? or not?

Plus, will it have £1000 applied to it as showroom tax? due to it being 4x4.

Its classed as a crossover, and states the rear wheels are powered only when needed?

they call it "all-wheel drive?"

I was crawling around under the car, as you do on a boring Sunday afternoon when you're waiting for the oil to drain, and noticed an area of bubbling paint.

It's a '53 Almera, and the area's on a cross member, under the bottom hose where it joins the rad.

It looks like it's had a small front end collision (small split in the underside of bumper, only visible on very close inspection, and a plastic undertray joined with sticky tape at a fold where the other side is intact). I suspect it's had a new rad early on, and the leak of anti-freeze stripped the paint, or a replacement rad, and the paint was damaged on fitting.

The area's only a few square inches.

I thought I'd scrape off the flaking paint, and liberally coat the area with old engine oil.

What's the BR opinion?

It would be difficult to properly grind down and re-paint without serious dis-assembly. Read more

I'd use some Loctite Kurust (the white stuff that goes black), available in little touch up dispensers. Then use some Waxoyl or Waxoyl Underseal (stays waxy but black)

I have bought a new car this week and traded in my old car. The dealer has given me bottom trade price for trade in without seeing the car or asking about its condition but i know there is a problem with the steering, question is do i need to tell them especially when all they will do is put it to the auctions as i dont wqnt to spend money on something thats not worth a lot?

True - take all the fun out of it!

Seriously though, I do find it amusing when half the threads on a forum are recommending people chop their car in whenever there is a problem and the other half complaining about how little they get offered in px and nobody seems to think there is a connection between the two?

I do feel sorry for the honest punter trading in a well maintained faultless car and the dealer assuming it has some major fault and putting an appropriate value on it. They are the ones who lose out but the sad reality is many, many people only trade in their car when it has something expensive wrong with it and the vast majority of dealers just assume that is the case with any car they are offered.
