I have had a brain wave on how to bypass the differential pressure sensor on the 2.2HDi engines, I am desperatley seeking the resistance values of the differential pressure sensor for the particulate filter on a 2.2 HDi engine.
My idea is incredibly simple and I can't believe how long it has taken me to think of it and I need the values to test the hypothesis.
If anyone has these values or has a 2.2HDi and a multi meter and can read them you will doing the world a service. My car is one of the first to have this nightmare system which when the car is shiney and new works fine but many cars with this system will soon be getting to the age when these things start to go belly up.
I could do with a set of values at different revs, e.g. idle, 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000
Quick note to the greenies before I get slated . . . .
I am not looking to remove my filter just bypass the bit that keeps going wrong. My car was MOTed last week and even though my 'Antipollution System Is Deffective' my emmissions were to low to measure. Read more
I was using the car with out any problems up until a few days ago? nothing appeared to be wrong, but when I go in to start it a few days ago, it wouldn?t start. The lights on the dash were all coming on it is just the engine wont turn over.
I also noticed (for the first time) that the ABS light on the dashboard came on. Has anyone come across this before? Any ideas on what is wrong? Read more
Never assume. The dash lights need 1 amp to work - the starter needs 300.
Try jump leads first.
help my rover 220 not start all i get is it not turning over & clocks are jumping thanks dave Read more
Yes, sounds like the battery is flat to me........
Be very careful if you have an SDi diesel model, the ECU doesn't take kindly to jump starts and voltage surges. I've seen plenty blown up in this manner.
For a good while now I've bought my tyres through the internet from European suppliers and had them fitted locally, saving a good deal.
However, as our puny pound drops in value, the internet prices are shooting up and this option becomes less viable.
My problem, well, I like to fit all-weather tyres to my Panda 4x4 and these tyres are not easily priced with the usual UK chains.
Has anyone else noticed inflated prices on their tyres which will, basically, be summer tyres if supplied by UK chains? Read more
I had a pair of tyres fitted only this afternoon- Vredestein Hi-Trac TLs-they cost £35.52 each. An identical pair bought three years ago at the same dealer cost £30.00 each. I don't think that's an unreasonable increase.

this guy was not charged with dangerous driving as it was a nice day and he was a former traffic cop! Does this strike anyone else as a strange decision?

At 118 mph on a public road I'd be dangerous when cold stone sober!
Personally I cannot see the point in this car - have a look at 4car.com - another very expensive Passat with a few curves to differentiate it - they are not too kind about the reliability and quality either.
Why are they bothering - surley they are starting to compete with the A4.
And in the markets that are driven by the badge snobs (UK & Europe) - they are onto a loser with this.
And it will never sell in the markets that are driven by reliability and service (Asia and the USA).
I just can't see it working persoanlly. Read more
I know what you mean ... but I still think the Merc CS curvy saloons look ace, and the Passat CC looks good too!
Nissan owns 15% of Renault and renault 44% of Nissan.
I've seen it suggested in here that Nissan reliability will go down and Renault up.
Any evidence either way? Read more
Sister has a 2003 Micra 1.4 SVE - one of the early current shapes. She's owned it for about two years now.
It's only done about 40,000 miles, and hasn't had an especially hard life. It's had some minor trim issues since she bought it, loose door handle surrounds, ill-fitting bits of dash, loose cup-holder console, but I put these down to it being an early new shape model.
Electrics, however, are proving very troublesome. It has keyless start, which is fine, but the remote locking doesn't always lock it. The electric boot release mechanism has gone, the reverse sensors don't always work, the heater has lost about 90% of its ability to heat and occasionally a buzzer of unknown origin goes off in the cabin, and can go for hours even when the car is off, locked and standing still!
Might just be a Friday afternoon car, but I think the electrics are Renault-supplied. I'm not a believer in the rule that all French electrics are iffy, my own 9-year old Xantia still has fully-functioning electrics after 162k miles.
Perhaps the electrics, like the trim, were a bit shaky in earlier models. Anyone with a later model able to attest to reliability?
It's all a far cry from the 1.0 litre, entry-level, J-reg MkI Micra I passed my test in - don't even think it had servo-assisted brakes!
its a big shame there is no naming and shaming on here sometimes, the warning i could give to help everyone would be invaluable, but i know i cannot here
carnt we have a wiki type additional site where anyone could add some naming and shaming and take the responsibility themselves
by the same token id appreciate some of the insights others could give
not a complaint really just a frustration

my experience the Bloggs pump is poorly made and isn't very robust ...........
That was my experience too. ;-)
Very long story - Back in at the start of December 07 I bought a second hand Opel Vectra from a New and Used car dealer. I traded my old Astra in as a part exchange and all seemed well. At the time of buying the car I asked (twice) if the car had ever been hit and both times I was told no. The reason I asked was that the steering wheel was not straight when I test drove it, although the car drove straight if you lifted you hands off the wheel, i.e. didn't pull to one side or anything. He did however tell me that the front bumper had been blown in because of a few scuff marks.
Anyway I've since had to:
1. put 4 new tyres on the car (Jan 11th)
2. get the wheels aligned (Mar 8th) at which point the guy doing the wheel alignment asked if the car had been hit because the wheel alignment was so far out- I said I'd been told no.
3. Put another 2 tyres on the front as the ones from Jan were now un-roadworthy.
While checking the car over for MOT the other night, my Dad and I took the front Grill off to see why the headlight washers weren't working. We then discovered that the front crossmember (crash bar) was damaged and pushed back against the fan and stopping it from working. So obviously the car had been involved in a front end smash of some sort.
I got on to the Citizens advice and they told me that I had a pretty good case to go back to the dealer with. When I contacted him he flew off the handle and said how could I prove that it wasn't me who did the damage and why has it taken me 4 months to get back to him. However when I mentioned Misrepresentation of the vehicle at the time of purchase he soon changed his tune
As it stands I've to take the car back to him next week for him to have a look at it. I've also been told by friends to contact the Trading standards to see where I stand with this. Is there any advise on what other damage I should be looking for on the car, i.e. chassis legs etc.
Oh and the car past its MOT last night thankfully. Read more
when you next go to you,re garage for a service ask them to check out the swinging arm bearing as that could be the cause of you,re uneven tyre wear even though you have had the wheel alignment done it will still keep on wearing out the tyres because of the arm bearing could be cuppot
A two point question regarding breakdowns.
1) When did you last breakdown (by the roadside) and how did you get out of it?
2) what`s your current plan to minimise risk the of being stranded by a breakdown?
some comment,
I guess I can`t have been alone in days gone by, scorning breakdown services and carrying a massive tool box, spare clutch cable, fuel pump and many other parts that were deemed `a risk`.
Then time moves on, the big tool box now out of the car and an AA card carried. That seems a great deal in particular if swapping every year to get a new customer discount.
But has anyone done a risk assessment on their current car? the outcome perhaps being a relatively cheap part or two carried, that could then be made available to the breakdown service if a weekend breakdown occurs.
(I`m thinking of France for example)

A set of these just arrived in the post and will be carried as a spare along with the `AA` card to have them fitted if a road failure occurs. ( an alleged Mk2 Punto weakness)
tinyurl.com/6xjlzw
Also decided to carry a clutch slave cylinder, as they are quite cheap and both parts fit our two Mk2 and 2B Punto`s.
Thought about carrying a few tools again to fit them, but given paying for the breakdown service anyway, there seems no point.
With long term ownership ( too mean to spend ;) of these cars planned, it seems worth it.
Of course, I will cut the AA cover to the cheapest option in order to get the money back.
But then, you knew I would do that didn`t you ;)

OK, really stuggling to get these voltages for testing. Anyone who has a 2.2 HDi engine with a FAP please let me know how much you want to read these values as I am starting to get desperate!
