Hi All BR's
Have a set of budget tyres on the rear of my car as dealer fitted them when I bought the car. they are Maragoni, Trio, has anyone ever had a set of these and if so how long did they last ? Read more
I've used Marangonis in the past. They were OK and wore quite well. Very good price, I recall.
Many modern cars offer the feature of displaying instant fuel economy (eg. mpg, L/100 km etc.)
How does it calculate the value?
Is it a very complex formula involving some jaw dropping equations or just a preset value based on RPM, gear etc.?

My old 1984 Audi 80 had an "Econometer", similar to the analogue BMW ones.
But the Audi one did not even have numbered graduations, it had varying thickness lines where IIRC thin line meant poor fuel economy and thick line meant better fuel economy.
It worked by vacuum, would this be directly off the inlet manifold or off some part of the K-Jetronic system?
It was quite entertaining making it swing around but not a lot of use. It spent a lot of its time at the poor end of the scale! Happy days, when I didn't give a fig what mpg the car was doing..

Interesting story .............. bit of a cliff hanger!
I have heard that you can dispute speed camera photo evidence by taking pictures of your car to show it is different due to stickers ec, which could help if your car has been cloned.
However, this one tried to avoid a genuine speeding ticket and ended up with something much more serious:

I can see how he was caught though. If you are going to add a GB sticker to the back of your car, you should at least clean the bootlid before sticking it on. Read more
The nearest row of shops to me is blighted by anti-social behaviour and underage drinking. It's a West of Scotland scourge, frankly. The police and our local councillors acknowledge this, they mention it every election time and it's reported in our local rag. Yet still it goes on, despite being a relatively small area. I'm willing to bet it's the same couple of dozen names responsible too. Yet I never read of them getting anything much more than a fine for multiple breaches of the peace.
Meanwhile, because someone has cheated the treasury of a 60 quid fine, huge resources have been put into investigating and imprisoning the culprit.
That, to me, is the real injustice here - something that affects the lives of many seems relatively low on the priority list compared to someone attempting to swindle 60 quid from the powers that be.
Although I have owned Diesel cars for many years I have only driven Petrol autos. Any preferences out there? My next car may be a Kia seed or Hyundai i30 Diesel Auto. Read more
It make the point that the torque converter on a diesel auto saps the economy.
The Jags with the PSA 2.7 6 cylinder with auto is good for 40+ mpg on a run and collegues with S type diesel autos get 30ish round town. This must be one of the best diesel and traditional autobox combinations around. I've driven S type and XF with this set up and it is excellent.
engine is 1.5 not sure of trim level.have tried to remove door panel to get at electric window motor but penel seems stuck in middle of it. have removed two screws in centre of door, door lock surround top right hand side of door and the two screws at bottom. around where the door handle just above electric window switch. it seems to be the problem but cannot find any more screws or clips to undo.have checked all fuses and wiring as far as possible so think motor for window is faulty but cannot remove or test. advice gratefully received. Only general advice: But many door trims are fixed with poppers. Some you can pop out by pushing centre, others you have to get behind the door panel with tool with V shape at end and lever them off (Many fords).
Best bet is to get a Haynes manual or persuade someone on this site to quote from their Haynes manual. If you tug at the panel too much it may bend out of shape or rip a popper/lug from the panel. Sorry cannot be any more specific.
In some countries in the world, the car number plates are written in non-Roman alphabets (eg. Chinese, Arabic etc.)
So, how does a foreigner is supposed to read them (if required)? In some cases, even the digits are written in local lingo!

I engaged a traffic warden in Westminster in conversation about one such car. It had outstayed its welcome on a parking meter and he was giving it a ticket. He pointed out that it belonged to a member of the Saudi Royal family, and that owing to his origin he was perfectly able to read the numberplate, thank you very much!
Hi all,
I have recently found a fuel leak from the throttle shaft of my Lucas (yeah I know they're bad) diesel fuel injector pump.
The throttle shaft moves up and down slightly if you pull and push it. I am guessing what ever was originally sealing it is not any more, and the idle speed of the engine changes when it is pulled or pushed.
Does anyone know what is used to seal the throttle shaft and is it easy to change and how.
I am a have a go type person (I changed the heater matrix already) but when it comes to fuel I get a bit more worried.
Thank you all in advance for your help Read more
Matt
The Lucas pumps aren't that bad; there's many with stellar mileage still going fine.
The shaft has worn; the repair kit is a new top cover and gasket from LSUK - around £50, depending on how much discount you can negotiate......
Easy to fit - six screws; just note where the fork sits as you drop the cover down.
i have a m reg 1000cc 106, when it has warmed up it makes a slight knocking noise on tick over
, when i press the throttle slightly and rev the car slowly it gets quieter.
can any one help me???
