Can anyone tell me what the disadvantages are to re mapping a Passat 100 TDI PD to 130 BHP. Is there a different Turbo in the standard 130 , different gearbox etc. Will I blow something if I do it? Or is th only difference in the two cars the way VW maps them in the factory?

i have a peugeot 306 which was in an accident at the weekend and it had some front end damage which caused the car to cut off power. I have taken it to a local garage and they say they need the immobiliser code for it but while i have had the car i havnt used one as it has been disconnected due to problems before. The car is now turning over but just not firing up. Any ideas as to how i can get this sorted cheaply! Read more
I am told only other thing that stops the engine is the Fuel STop Solnoid, check you have 12 volts there when cranking.
When I switch the engine on the service reminder bleeps and the spanner lights up on the dashboard indicators. I have had the car serviced but prior to this indicator showing. I have tried pressing the trip meter button and switching the engine on, but this does not work. Any other ideas please.

Hi
I am still looking for a car and now have it down to either the c max 1.6 05 plate or the fiat idea 1.3 muitijet eleganza on 55 plate, but have concerns re parts and bodywork when either car is kept long term which is cheaper on parts Read more
The Idea has been pretty trouble free I believe due to it being outside the taste of the `baseball caps on back to front brigade`. Multijet is chain cam, so no worries about `rubber band`, `bobbins` and water pump wobbling between.
The Fiats galvanised and fuel economy with the diesel should be outstanding compared with the 1.6 petrol. (is it petrol?)
Spares will allegedly take a little longer with Fiat compared with Ford, but should be cheap and with no problems.
Fiats don`t rust these days, but what about Ford?
If you will be using a main dealer for service Fiat allegedly came out worst in certain categories in last weeks Auto express.
If you are a DIY sort, you will love the Multijet, the engine only has fluids and filters in servicing.
But how good is your local Fiat dealer if you have problems? If that can`t be answered and you would likely depend on the dealer, I would be tempted to go for the Ford. ( With a dealer seemingly on almost every street corner)
(we own two Fiats, one a Multijet)

A couple of years ago I changed my insurance provider, the application was submitted online.
I've paid the premium and send them a renewal letter from previous company as a proof of NCD.
The thing is, my previous insurance company put an extra year of NCD on the renewal notice.
So, a few days later I got a letter saying that according to the renewal notice I supplied them my NCD was one year more than I specified on the application form and they were going to refund me with the difference, which they promptly did. Frankly, I forgot about it for some time.
I have since renewed with the same insurer just accepting the quote they provided.
Going through some old paperwork during weekend I found this refund letter (which I saved just in case) and it reminded me of the issue.
I wonder if I am in dangerous waters over this? If ( I ever have to claim or a claim is filed by a third party, will they try and wriggle out of it because of this?

By "The worst that would happen even if anybody noticed is that you'd have to
pay the money back" did you mean premium difference?
Yes.
My Dad, in the first week of ownership of his 2006 307 SW, has managed to jam in a second CD in the slot. There are now 2 dics in there and obviously the unit is refusing to play or eject.
I suggested he looked for a little hole by the player to stick in a paperclip end, and manually release the CDs, but has anyone got any better ideas?
The car is in France so I can´t get a look at the unit.

Hiya i have a 306 1.9td S reg, for a while now my rev counter decides to drop anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes into a journey, the air con seems to cut out about the same time, the light on the dash stays on though, just isn't cold anymore you press it off then on, no click or cold air. It only starts working again after the car has been left off for a few hours. All fuses seem to be alright though, oddly enough when the engines running if i remove the number 2 fuse you hear it click on and you have cold air, just no rev counter still, i think the two faults are connected Any ideas would really help, thanks ahead. Think i've found the right plug, I've had a look and cleaned up the plug and connections, no cange though.
Peter N. If it is the sensor itself, where is that located?
Thanks again for your help lads.
Posted this on behalf of a colleages wifes car. Email from colleague as follows;
Model: 2001 Fiat Punto 1.2
Thursday: Oil low, topped up
Friday: Short journey (2-3 miles) ? no problems
Following Tuesday:
Black exhaust fumes when setting off from cold.
In the middle of medium length journey of 8-12 miles whilst going up a relatively steep hill, the engine seemed to rev at a higher rate than normal and appeared to lose power slightly. This was followed by smoke (not steam) coming from the engine coupled with a strong burning smell. After leaving the car at the roadside for an hour, the car was drivable and appeared to be fine during a very short run and water and oil levels appear to be OK. However, it has driven less than a mile since the smoke until diagnoses.
Let me know if any more info required.

Morning all, hope I can get what I'm after here. I have a mondeo TD which needs a new advance solenoid so I'm told, I have managed to source a cheap one for £35, or I can go for the proper one from Ford for over £160. I know people who have used these cheaper versions and they do work, as in no more smoke at idle and lack of turbo e.t.c. but there car's appeared a bit under-powered and used a bit more fuel. Now would this be because of the cheap replacement or something else? I would rather go for the cheaper option but if I'm going to have similar prob's as my friends have then I'd rather have the real deal. Many thanks in "advance" Read more
Brilliant, they're on the way home from work, so I'll pop in and have a chat. Thank you for your reply.
As inappropriate parking in disabled bays comes up for discussion on here occasionally, I thought some Backroomers may find the following interesting.
ASDA and now Sainsbury are to fine people for incorrect use of disabled bays.
I only hope I am there one day when someone has a fine imposed on them. Also hope the person doing the enforcing is well built.

I have had mine done (different engine), and it is much better, mpg is the same as far as I can tell, maybe better on long runs, and drive-ability is much more relaxed and sedate, as the car accelerates much better in high gears/low rpm, so less down-changing of the auto-box. This probably puts less strain on many parts.
