This van is one on the list for the Avensis Verso replacement in a couple of years. HJ's test seems to be the Caddy Maxi Life rather than the Caddy Life. Perhaps VW are using different labelling to that in Germany. Also, there is a petrol variant in Germany which undercuts the basic diesel by ?2000 or so.

They are available in black (here in Ireland, at least) and it costs more than other shades of metallic paint too!

Last year someone ran into the back my car. Her insurers accepted liability. My insurers described it as no fault accident on my part. My car was written off.

I have protected no claims bonus. When my insurance renewal comes up next month, will it be higher as a result of that accident?

Thanks

I doubt it will go up much at all.

I had an accident last year in which I was "not entirely innocent" iykwim ;-)

The premium for the year went up by 2.4%.

is there anyone that can give me advice. An internet company made a sales call, their pitch was that they had a database of potential buyers interested in the exact model, make, year, price of my vehicle and that if I registered with them I would receive phone calls re car viewings etc. My registration fee of £79.99 would then be refunded as they don't make any money from the sales of the vehicles, they make their money from the finance. During the registration phone call the operative said that if I was unhappy with the service that I had received my account would be refunded.

One week later....No phone calls from any potential purchasers...appalling customer service...operatives with extreme attitude...and now they are not happy to refund me and said that they only ever agreed to credit me - which is no use whatsoever as I would never choose to use them again.
I feel like I was lied to, and am never likely to see my refund...

Any suggestions?

Or, like me and a probability defying number of others, you may find that you have won £850,000 in a lottery you didn't enter. Twice in one week. I wonder what odds are against that?

Started car up and a message came up Engine Anti Pollution System Defective and the engine symbol is constantly on,rang local garage who were very helpfull and said they would recommend a diagnostic test £40

can anyone advise me what the problem could be ,the garage asked if the car was misfiring, backfiring etc which it wasn't and it was safe to carry on driving but could damage the catalitic convertor but suggested it was an exhaust sensor emmisions problem Read more

how did you get on because it has just happened to me this morning what
was the problem ?

That user hasn't visited the forum since April 24th, and even if they did come back with their solution it would be completely irrelevant to you.

Get the fault codes read and don't throw money at it until you do.

Hi

I wounder if anyone can help, I have a 1999 registered Primera P11 -144, the 1.8 version.

The car has developed a noise which comes form (or sounds like it does) the front of the car. This noise increases in frequency with wheel speed and is best described as a metallic grating noise (ch ch ch). It appears when acceleration is applied AND when the accelerator is released (ie on acceleration and deceleration) but not when the vehicle is travelling at a constant speed. Also it seems to increase on left hand bends, but not on right hand ones. There is also sometimes a slight vibration felt through the vehicles floor, but not through the steering wheel.

Just to add to the mystery, the car was only MOT'd last week so I do not think that it is a wheel bearing, and certainly I cannot detect any movement in the front wheels when the car is jacked up.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Read more

many thanks

sounds like I will try the wheel bearing route first

Sitting in front of the pub last night, on a stretch of Harrow Road where some cars and some motor bikes reach highly illegal speeds, and sometimes speeds that even seem dangerous to me, I became slowly aware of a big white van parked facing the wrong way on the pavement opposite, a single-yellow stretch where parked cars are often to be seen.

It had a short horizontal shutter open in both rear doors, and I became aware of lenses and things just inside, looking up the road towards Harrow. Took me several minutes to focus on the thing though. Perhaps it would have been more apparent to a driver, because the traffic seemed a bit less sprauncy than usual. Eventually some girls parked a car in its way and the single civilian who seemed to be operating it, engine running constantly to feed the machinery perhaps, closed the shutters.

A kingfisher-blue Subaru with big nostrils and stuff then went past like a bat out of hell. Read more

The camera is taller than average and looking
slightly downwards.

Is it anything like the one in the Cromwell Road about halfway between the museums and Gloucester Road tube, on an island in the middle of the road?

Due to having got off at the wrong station for the Science Museum (oops) last Saturday, we were walking down there and noticed it - the yellow box seemed smaller than the usual sort, although it was definitely a speed camera, as everyone was slowing down for it and there were markings on the road

Backroomers might remember I mentioned the possibility of completing a car mechanics course in Brighton. I am looking to complete a panel beating course in Brighton maybe alongside the car mechanics course.

Can someone tell me where I can complete this course, i.e which colleges provide for such a course. To be honest I have never seen it advertised anywhere.

To note, with the car mechanics course, it is run over 3 years, and can be a full time course or part time course. So there is a lot of training involved: of course this is expected.

Thanks in advance.

You'll have to get onto your local education authority. Maybe ask around some garages as well.

There are three courses that I know of within driving distance of me ("up norf") so there must be something down your way....

Pondering something here. I'm looking at new VWs, my price range (17-18k) will cover a basic Passat diesel, or a Golf TDI with a higher spec, and a bit of a nippier performance.

It doesn't make that much difference to me, I like both cars, but what would you do and why?

thanks. Read more

good compromise, but I'm not a fan of estates - just aesthetics really. I know my wife would say 'don't be an idiot', but here amongst the petrolheads, I'm sure I can get away with it . . .

The other possibility was a jetta, but I get the feeling it's neither one thing nor the other - that size of VW never seems to sell well.

I had an accident with a lorry around crossroads. I was going straight and the lorry came and hit me from right hand side of the driver. There were giveaway say for me to stop but because the location of the sign was not clear I didn?t see the sign. There should have been a stop sign cause that would have given better message and it clear to see stop sign because it?s red in colour rather than giveaway. The hedges were so high that I couldn?t see the truck coming from right until it was too late. A week before my accident took place, there a similar case but the outcome was less critical. I have got broken collar bone, pain on my knees and minor scar on my nose. I am not sure who the case will be against but I blame the road signs and hedges. If you click on this article www.nwemail.co.uk/news/viewarticle.aspx?id=812247 you will probably get more idea on what happened and if I got a valid case or not. I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you
