My heater does not blow hot air at all. i have tried to run the engine up to remove any air locks but this has not made any difference. All the heater controls work fine, but i just get no heat into the car. Can anyone help at all? Read more

Thanks Peter, I will check the necesaries. I contacted the renalut main delaer that did the headgasket recently and they confirmed that they had advised the previous owner that the car needed a new heater system radiator, cost approx 700 euro for 8 hours labour plus parts. I guess thats why it was not done.
I wonder if the current Rad could be flushed at all?

i own a vectra sxi 2001. my car has allways been very twitchy. its only twitchy when braking on either light or hard corners, feels very crabby but no in a straight line. i have changed alloys to 17 215 45s and has not made any noticeable difference.
just wondering if any other suggestions could be made by others as it was written of yesterday on mild bend, i took a left hand bend and it had no feeling to the rear of the car, no squealing of tyres, no crabing just a feeling like the rear was skating on ice. the outcome was that it hit an embankment, rolled on to its roof and settled on the passenger side doors. any help from all the people would be of great help

This is exactly how mine has been feeling but not so much of a light rear end. I posted a similar query back in Januarry but for various reasons I have yet to sort it out!

The car has since been through and passed an MOT and I asked the inspector about the bushes when he said that it had passed. Reply was that they were OK. A mechanic has suggested that I swap wheels front to rear so I might get time to get this done at the weekend.

I will definitely post an answer when I get it sorted!

All of you on this board will have seen the posts relating to peoples problems getting a Colt CZC delivered- I was one of these people until I'd had enough and cancelled my order (BTW, it took over 3 weeks of threatening them with trading standards, consumer direct etc before the Mitsubishi dealer refunded my £1000 deposit. Mitsubishi HQ were no help whatsoever and in the end my bank managed to get me my money back as the dealer wrote March delivery on the order form and was then didn't deliver). Anyway, Colt cancelled I went down the road to my local MINI garage and bought a 56 plate Mini Cooper Convertible in Chili Red from the MINI Cherished scheme. This is how I've got on with it over the last 3 weeks.
First things first, the MINI garage were excellent- extremely courteous, a good deal offered, they couldn't have done more for me and the car itself, well its pretty much perfect. It was registered by MINI themselves on Dec 24 th 2006 and in those 16 months it only did 2800 miles so its pretty much as it left the factory condition wise. Its got all the standard Cooper bits plus the Pepper pack and the TLC package aswell and looks really snazzy in Chili Red with black hood and all the chrome trim bits.
It drives brilliantly aswell, handles like a go kart when the hoods down and is plenty nippy enough for my needs. I'm just having to get used to driving it with more revs after a year driving an Ibiza 1.4tdi which pulled from low revs really well. Theres no wind noise with the hood up, no leaks and from the drivers seat it feels like your in a Mondeo sized car. Even the rides not too bad even though its on runflats because its got the standard 175/65 r15 wheel /tyre combo. Its averaged 38 mpg in the 600 miles I've used it.
Downside? Well, the boots really tiny, theres not any rear legroom to speak of and it does get really bad scuttle shake when taken over rough roads. But I knew these things when I bought it so thats that.
In my opinion though, NO other car on the market can really put a smile on your face like this car can. Give me a sunny day on a twisty road in this car over a Ferrari any day. Read more

.......... in those 16
months it only did 2800 miles ............

In that case you should check the brake discs for corrosion.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the new Yaris T3 and TR spec levels (1.4 Diesel 5 door)? I can only find one difference and that is the TR has alloys which the T3 doesn't appear to. What is confusing me is that the TR appears cheaper than the T3 (or has better discounts). Read more

I should have aded - if you can afford it, go for the 1.3 rather than the 1.0 which is on the sluggish side whereas the 1.3 is excellent and doesn't feel slow even compared with SWMBO's Mini Cooper.

My daughter would agree with everything HJ says in his road test. The Jazz is a very good car with more room in it than the Yaris, and a cleverer rear seat folding arrangement (cleverer than most other cars, come to that) - but the Yaris is definitely livelier and more fun to drive.

At the end of february i purchased a renault megane 1.4 3 door hatch from local renault dealer. The car is a 2004 on a 04 plate and has 23k on the clock. with the purchase i got a years tax, 12 months MOT, full service and 12 months warranty.

I have had the car now for 2 months and it is very hard to get into 1st gear and it grinds into reverse. Also when at standstill the car seems like it is juddering and i can really notice it. Its like someone is giving it a very gentle bounce.

I am gonna ring renault on monday to book it in.where do i stand with regards to getting the work done at no cost to me, and what can i ask for regarding the gears (i doubt i could ask for a new gear box)

And what could be causing the juddering? Read more

with regards to the gears,it dos'nt happen every time, but it happens enough for it to annoy me.
obviously i will have to wait to here what the garage say, but hopefully they wont try and fob me off. Its just good if i have something to say to them with the help of some more experienced views

Hi I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. On March the 29th I went to the Daihatsu dealer to look at getting a PX price for my car against a new Sirion. I was told that the price of the car was to rise by £1000 in the next 2 days (correct info) and to save on the deal I would have to move fast.
I was given a good deal on PX and told I had to get a cover note for the new car within 24 hrs (of which I did)
I was given my new Registration number and a pre delivery letter saying that the car would be ready for collection on March 31st. It was also explained that it may be a couple of days after this....
I received the new vehicle documents and no money has changed hands.
However I have still not received the car.
My e mails were not answered and after a phone call a couple of weeks ago that I made, I was told it was still being imported from Japan. It is now nearly a month gone. I am paying higher insurance on car I do not have. I have transferred money from an interest account to a current account and so I have lost money by waiting?
Do I have any rights and is this a reasonable time to wait for a new car? They have not rang to keep me informed of developments and frankly the excitment of buying a new car (all be it cheap) has worn off. All in all pretty fed up.
Thanks Read more

I ordered a factory Smart in 05 and it took 14 weeks so dont give up yet. The dealer didnt really know when the car was coming until the transporter arrived and I got an excited phonecall from him to tell me.
The dealer is always at the mercy of the supplier, so ask them for an honest answer and if possible, actually go to the dealer and pin someone down for an answer.

Such a common topic on the forum 'which car to choose', I was wondering how many people go on to buy a car suggested by the backroom? Or are people hoping that someone will tell them to buy the car they wanted in the first place. Read more

I was advised to buy a Mondeo TDCI when I was looking to replace a leased BMW 530d with a car which I was going to pay for myself....bought another 530d which was near perfect. (apart from the rather dodgy looks)

Hi, can anyone advise please?

Battery flat, went to release bonnet catch but nothing doing, cable moves at lever end. How to get into engine bay?

Cheers Dave, that was a good idea but didn't work this time mate.

The only way to gain access meant dismantelling the bumper assembly including cross member and plastic shroud, eventually I managed to get to the lock assembly. the cable was working but the mechanism was not.
I removed the lock assy and found one of the springs had corroded away at one end. Will get a new one next week.

A right pain of a job when all I wanted to do was charge the battery.

Thanks again, Dave.

Railroad.

First thing every morning my car starts with a misfire for a few seconds, and a puff of white smoke/water vapour comes from the exhaust, after which it would run perfectly fine. Also over a period of several months I've noticed a small loss of coolant. I pressure tested it and cannot find any evidence of an external leak anywhere. I began to wonder if these two problems were related. If I released the pressure when I finished with the car at night it would start and run normally the next morning with no misfire, and that led me to suspect that the head may have a small crack which is closed when it's warm, and opens up when it cools, allowing coolant to run into one cylinder overnight, hence the slight misfire in the morning. It has never shown any signs of overheating, nor has it got worse in over two years which leaves me convinced that it's not the head gasket which has lifted.

I bought some 'Irontite Ceramic Motor Seal' from a local engine machinist. It was just over £20 but I thought was worth the gamble. It is a professional engine sealant that coats the entire cooling system with a ceramic coating. I read the instructions on the bottle and decided to use it. Last Sunday I drained the cooling system and re-filled with water. I did the same on Monday and Tuesday to ensure I'd got rid of the anti-freeze completely. I ran the engine right up the fan cutting in on Wednesday evening and added the sealant. I'll drain it out tonight and let it stand overnight to cure, and I'll put it back together tomorrow morning. The sealant contains ceramic beads which by capillary action are drawn into any minor cracks and porous areas. It then hardens when the system is drained and comes into contact with oxygen, providing a permanent seal. Once it's gone off the system can be re-filled with anti-freeze.

Since I've added the sealant the engine has not misfired at all when starting, and both my wife and myself are convinced that the car performs better overall. I'm therefore very optimistic that the problem will be cured.

If anyone else has a similar problem then this looks like it's the product to buy.......

Thanks railroad, I'm keeping an eye out on ebay for a cheap head (local breakers seem to want more money that the old vans worth but if I can't drop on one cheap will give that motor seal a try. I said I'd scrap it once it reached 200k miles but its almost reached that now and still plods on well & good mpg so might spend a few quid on the ol gal to keep her moving along.
