I am applying for a photo card replacement for my old and tattered paper licence. On the form it says "start date. your licence begins on the day we issue it". This is fine for me, so do I leave the boxes empty on the form?

I've noticed how many ads there are in the papers for fairly high CO2 emitting cars at present, including very seriously high 4*4's.
Does anyone else think it's the manufacturers persuading people to buy before the showroom tax comes in? Would anyone do that?
If people do buy now rather than later, the law of unintended consequences operates so that instead of there being fewer high CO2 emitters, there are more and on the road earlier. Read more

I bought my daughter a 95 2lt 306 petrol here in Australia and shorlty after buying it my son took it to "grass" motokana which was more dust than grass. After about 20 minutes of competing in the dust the thing refused to run over idle, then died. A dead fuel pump and "mud and excrement " in the tank was diagnosed. $450 later we were on the way with a new pump, and thought it was just bad luck and dodgy petrol.
Four months later my son was back at the Motokana with his sisters car again, (the full house MK11 escort I bought him is not the right machine for something like Motokana's). However 20 minutes into the comtetition the thing died again. Once again investigation showed a another dead $450 fuel pump and a tank full of mud.
The machanic assures me he could not find any loose seals or cracked filler tubes etc.
Can anyone give me any advice on how the dust is geting into the tank as this is annoying me.
thanks

The tank was cleaned comprehensivly after the first pump died. I must admit that I have since been informed that the Peugeot pumps are heaps more sensitive to dust/grit than most, and that Australia, because its so geologically old, has some of the finest dust going, and able top get through any filter.
Hi all,
My 2002 406 hdi 90 is getting a bit too long in the tooth, looking to swap it over summer before it quite frankly goes for not much above scrap values ( I don't have much confidence in the engine at the minute, nor the time or energy to source the problem(s))
Would ideally like minimum 2004 and with under 60/70k on the clock. Whilst I dont do many miles (around 200 a week) I would like something comfortable that will handle the motorway well for the regular long distance trips to see relatives. Running costs come into the equation as well.
Kind of split between two very different choices at the minute, a 1.8 petrol Vectra and a Celica (obviously not a 2004 for 6k) might be my last chance of something quick(ish) before SWMBO starts on about kids.
Trying to stay away from common rail diesels, just seem too unreliable (and expensive), the current pug has apperently been very good for a common rail, Eek!.
Anybody know of any other cars that might be worth consideration? Engine more important then brand/model. Read more
I have a 2002 1.8 Primera, 45k miles. Lots of room, big boot, nice to drive. We have only had it 6 months so no reliability problems so far. Bad things? I find the radio and heater controls annoying, and always feel like I should be moving up a gear when it's already in fifth on the motorway. Mpg is around 35, although I do mainly short journeys. It feels sturdy and well built but it is quite dull. If you can get a Volvo S60 at a good price I would say that is a much nicer car.
Does anyone know what the current position with regard to the Chinese company which bought Rover and their plans to re-start some form of UK production? Perhaps just MG was it? Read more
They were better made though.
I only got one key fob when I bought this car, (an XRD with remote locking and factory immobiliser, but no alarm). Although I have found out how to bypass the immobiliser, it is a bit of a pain. I have bought a second key with immobilizer and central locking button, how can I programme it for my car?

The door solenoid on the rear nearside passenger door has gone on my 1.5D XRD. Are these easy to replace and are they the same as other Peugeots/Citroens etc?

I got brake pad warning message on info screen this week, so changed front brake pads. Also checked rear ones, & they are okay. However, still getting brake pad warning message. Anyone know how I get rid of this? I assumed it would sensor the fact that new pads had been fitted.

Alternatively the wire which connects the wear sensor into the wiring loom may have broken, have a look in the front wheel arches and check for breaks. More likely to be lack of wear sensor replacement though as DD suggests.
I beleave there might be something about 'a duty of care'. Anyway, this lifting clearly has major health & safety issues, so it will have to be banned!
