Hi there, I have a scenic 2.0 Turbo, recently, there has been a rumbling noise from the front end when moving. The N/S front wheel was being scrubbed on the outside. I swapped the two front wheels round N/S onto O/S and vice versa, as i believed that the scrubbing was being caused by a buckled alloy. Much to my annoyance, the N/S wheel, now with the O/S wheel on it, is scrubbing the same and there is no difference at all in the rumbling noise, i suspect a wheel bearing may be the culprit, any ideas?

Does anyone know if overseas cars on foreign numberplates are exempt from the London Congestion Charge?
Or rather... if the driver doesn't pay, the authorities cannot track him/her down and send the fine? DVLA database is clearly useless for foreign registrations... Read more

just changed my rear pads and now the handbrake just pulls right up. how do i adjust it? It used to be nice and tight before I changed the pads. And yes the cable is still connected to the caliper. Read more
Caliper problems on these will cause handbrake trouble. Also check the handbrake cables, very common to seize.Handbrake adjustment is automatic unless it has had a modified handbrake lever fitted with manual adjuster.hth
I need to change a stop light on my Mazda 323 hatchback but I can't get into the rear light cluster. The instructions in the handbook are vague to say the least. Any suggestions please? Read more
Time to change my company car. I have been offered the choice between the Golf SE estate, the Octavia Ambiente estate or the Roomster Scout (all 1.9tdi). I have the Octavia at the moment ; so I would really like a change. So it's between the Golf and the Roomster.
The Golf is very similar to drive as the Octavia, a slightly smaller boot, improved spec and better looking.
Th Roomster is FUN to drive, slightly smaller boot again, similar spec to the Octavia but with marmite looks (you ether love or hate it) and I quite like it. My 12 & 9 year old sons like the Roomster.
I clock up about 27k miles a year.
Comments most welcome. Read more
I've had an Octavia for three years now and would like something different my company
will not let me wait for the facelift model or the new CRi diesel engine
(out later this year or early next). So it's either the Golf (MP3 CD standard
on SE) or the Roomster Scout I'm starting to favour the Scout for something different.
But then again the golf looks more up market??????????????
Spongy brakes on my mates bora, we will be pressure bleeding the system.
He has spotted a bleed nipple on the end of the master cylinder, are there any other bleed points apart from the calipers?
I assume this has to be bled in sequence with the rest of the car, my question is in what part of the bleeding sequence do we open the master cyl nipple?
Also is anyone aware of any probs in this system that could have caused the sponginess?
Thanks. Read more
Agreed NC, but as i recall the braking performance changed drastically until i changed the rear shoes to compliment the fronts, then all was better than new.
In fact it made the car a much more pleasant drive, and you would have liked it, a good old fashioned 1.6 NA diesel. B reg 84.
Was doing some maintenance yesterday on my beloved C3, including regular checks & pumping up tyres.
Went to drive to work this morning & a warning beep went off, along with the indoor light flashing, drove for a couple of minutes & continued to do this.
No indication on the dashboard as to what it could be, i.e. low petrol or leaving the handbrake on etc.
I have checked my handbook & cannot see anything in there which relates to this.
Any idea what this might be???
Thanks

The interior light, above the handbrake. I've check the h-book again & it is because the boot wasn't shut properly.
All sorted, thanks.
I've just bought a 1999 A4 2.5 TDI a week ago. It drove fine on test drive, however, I noticed there is blue smoke coming out of exhaust when driven hard at low speeds. The smoke definitely smells like oil not diesel. It only comes out when it's warm and no smoke when rev at stationary. It recently had a turbo change so I suspect it was the oil left in the exhaust and my mechanic checked the exhaust said there is a bit of deposition in the exhaust. However I've driven at least 100 miles now it is still smoking. There is no misfire or loss of power. The oil level seems to be ok as well. What is it likely to be?
Any help would be appreciated. Read more
Possible blocked crankcase breather.Always overlooked on this model.hth
I'm still banging my head against a wall trying to find a way to play CD's in my car!!!
Its a 1997 A4 1.8T Sport which has a radio/cassette head unit. Some nice person has at some time in the cars life removed the CD auto changer from the boot!
What I'd like to do is get myself a compatible single disc genuine Audi head unit which will fit in the dash and also plug in and play without having to faff about with wiring harnesses etc! Been down that road and its no easy!!!!
Anyone got any ideas where to pick one up at a reasonable price (other than eBay - had bad experience so now staying away!!!)?
Cheers

yes - that is getting sensible - but you also need an aerial adapter I think.
I've been running my 3 litre CR auto D-Max for nearly 3K miles now, and I get about 29mpg running around, dropping to 25 when I tow 3 tons.
My old '93 Landcruiser 4.2TD auto does around 25mpg, dropping to 22 towing 3 tons.
So considering the LC is 15 years old, has a 6 cylinder engine, permanent 4wd, old style auto, 600kg heavier, bigger tyres, and is less aerodynamic, why does it not use much more fuel? It's also got more torque lower in the rev range, and is much smoother and quieter that the Isuzu. So what have I actually gained?
It looks to me like I've gained nothing at all, except a super complicated engine that's unlikely to run for 200K miles without issue (like the LC). And when it does go wrong, it will probably take the garage a month (and numerous attempts) to fix, and require a second mortgage to pay for it. If CO2 is a direct result of fuel consumption, they'd have been better off putting the old LC engine in the new Isuzu, and I'd had had better power, fuel economy, and reliability. Read more
Whenever a new model comes to the market, consumers are made to believe that unless they ride on the latest model, they won't look cool. So, they buy the latest model and then next year, another model is out and last year's model is termed as "obsolete" so that public can be enticed to buy the new one.
And the cycle continues.
Old cars were made to last.
New cars are made to last too but only till CEO of the manufacturer leaves for fatter pay.

Try this:
- turn towards the suspicious wheel and if the noise becomes quieter or disappears than it's likely that it's a bearing. Try to find some long curve where you can pick up some speed.
- if you turn in the opposite direction the noise should get worse.
