Afternoon,
Couild I solicit opinions on the above dealer, I'm looking to buy a new car and the quote comes attached to a finance deal (at what appears to a reasonable interest rate).
Should I be wary of such a deal or is this normal practice, there is an option to terminate the finance without penalty after 3 months?
Thanks for any advice Read more
I just baught a Peugeot 406 executive hdi 110 bhp , and a strange noise is coming out from the engine when starting, Pegueot expertise told me that it's coming out from the flywheel, because it is with a dumper, as I'm not too thecnical ....
The noise is like a slipping belt , like a whistle..
The second noise is coming from the engine when I load it , or beetwen gears, the same like a small whistle this time ...
Any one can help me with this problem please ? Read more
Squeaking noises from the clutch housing of a 110 HDi are often a failing dual-mass flywheel. [Circa £1000 to fix]
Make sure that it's not coming from the front pulley on the engine, as those fail too.
Both of these faults will quickly develop into disasters and that could write the car off. Get an expert ear applied ASAP.
I'm sure one of the learn'ed readers on this forum will be able to help. Having searching various dutch tax sites I'm still not sure of the actual answer.
I'm considering buying an old Alfa Romeo from a dutch marque specialist. The car is 42 years old and I am keen to understand whether VAT is payable in the Netherlands or whether as the car is for export the car is purchased without the VAT and I pay the UK VAT on the purchase price when the car is re-registered in the UK.
Thanks in advance. Read more
oldnotbold is right - No VAT or other duty payable on import to UK of a second-hand car from an EU country. Is it registered on a Dutch number plate?
Hi,
Has anyone got any recommendations for a van rental company which allows travel to continental Europe?
I have a trip to Southern France coming up which I really need a van for and don't really want to go to all the trouble of buying and selling one.
Any suggestions welcome,
Thanks. Read more
I have used 1car1 for a week's hire to the Netherlands. Not expensive, and a new van. It cost us about £150 over the advertised rate (for a UK hire) for the same period, and this included insurance extension and breakdown cover.
They were also very reasonable when we..ahem..smashed the windscreen.

In the market for a new medium sized estate and would like to know if anyone leases privately instead of buying.
Any Pro,s/Con,s plus can anyone recommend a leasing company that will supply to private sector.
Many thanks Read more
If i remember rightly to my leasing days i remember that lings husband is a bigwig for one of the lease firms and so she hops on his gravy train so to speak. Still she does offer what appear to be some very good deals.
The handbrake on my 405 estate is virtually non existent. This is despite replacing cables, shoes and drums and of course ensuring that the drum pistons and adjustors are all working and unseized.
It failed last years MOT with this problem and scraped through at the second attempt after we lightly scored the shoes with an angle grinder to give them more purchase.
I'm absolutely at my wits end with this problem, does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,
I am new to the forum so please forgive any errors that I make.
May I offer two pieces of information that might help you solve the proble.
I had the rear handbrake cables replaced at the last MOT. The garage pointed out that there is only a small amount of movement in the system- The movement effort is magnified by the handbrale lever.
I note that you have had the cables replaced.
The other thing I wanted to mention was : I had trouble in the 1980,s getting a decent hanbrake on my dads Triumph 2000 ( Remember them ? ) The answer after much replacing of old parts ? The automatic adjusters were not working !!!!
So you have to replace the adjusters or manually adjust through the drum.
I hope this helps solve your problem with the handbrake ?

Hi,
Just been given this Espace and it was driving fine at the weekend. This morning it wouldn't start properly. It kicked over and I could hear the cylinders firing, but it wouldn't keep going when I stopped the starter motor. Happened a few times until it finally started, then died after 10 seconds running. Tride again and eventually it was running, but idle was erratic racing up and down. Settled down after a minute or two and drove fine. (No Check engine light came on) It recently had a fast idle problem and this was fixed by cleaning the Idle Control Valve. Can't take it back there as the garage is 300 miles away.
Could it be a spark plug? Maybe ICV needs more work? Maybe a sensor?
Any help, most appreciated.

Dear BR's
A colleague at workk has an A6 Avant with parking sensors and is contemplating having a towbar fitted. Would the fitment of such a device conflict with the parking sensors already installed?
Any answers and opinions welcoms.
Thanks,
Tim. Read more
Very much depends on type of sensors - if factory/dealer fit there may be some ability to get them adjusted to 'ignore' the towbar. Most aftermarket ones seem to specify a specific model which does this. Of course he could fit a towbar with removable head for day to day driving. One thing suddenly occurs to me - I've never driven with a trailer - but I assume that when you connect lights etc, the reverse light on the car is cancelled in favour of the one on the trailer??
Help!
The fan blower on my x trail when turning right or going round roundabouts makes an awful noise which can only be stopped by A turning the fan to full speed this then clears the noise after about 20 seconds or B Turning the Fan off and back on again.
I can faintly hear something catching in the Fan but I cannot gain access to it with out stripping out the whole unit.
Has any one else come across this? Found a solution.
Annoyingly the cay is 3 months outside its warrenty. Read more
Sitting in traffic this morning, a Xantia pulled up next to me. I glanced across, and something drew my eye to the badge on the front edge of the door rubbing strip identifying the engine size. It said "C Turbo"
What engine is this? Never heard of it. Seemed to shift quite well when the traffic cleared.
Cheers

But why wreck 2 cars in the process? The 205 GTi is best as it left the factory, and premature scrapping of donor cars (unless accident damaged anyway) is a waste!
sorry we dont do Renault if I could of helped I would have done though ... good luck !!
