If I want to lubricate the sunroof rubber, what would be the best item to use. I thought about grease or wd40 - please let me know what else can be used and where it can be purchased.
Thanks

Hi
Am looking to change coolant on recently aquired 1998 glx 1.9 dt
Haynes mentions removing the cylinder block coolant drain plug when draining out old coolant
It says its on the rear of cylinder block
Can anybody be a bit more specific or is it pretty obvious?????
Cheers in advance Read more
I agree with the comment made on the whole.
It is however essential to have the temperature on the heater to full as this will get rid of any air locks and allow flow through the heater matrix. As for the cylinder drain plug forget it. There is a pipe between the expansion tank and the head, in the middle you will see a little dust cap and you remove this. also at the bulkhead next to the brake fluid resevoir on the right you will see another awkward one remove that too.
On refilling you will hear a hiss as water fills the circuit wait until the jets from the removed caps run clear and bubble free. Its also a good idea to use a largish header tank you can, say 2 to 3 litres and tape it onto the neck of the expansion tank. Use insulating tape as the expansion bottle is lower than the top bleed hole and will help force the air out.

John
hi all
my 04, 2.0dti produces an intermittent turbo "kick up the bum "which can be a bit unnerving when creeping along in traffic and i suddenly surge ahead without any warning, this also occurs at any time, especially when accelerating .a mechanic suggested it could be a bit of turbo lag ??. diagnostic tests show nothing. so any ideas what might be causing it and also a remedy would be quite useful.
very many thanks in advance.
cheers..............munsy. Read more
Hi ,have you sorted the surging problem on your zafira ?, I have the same with mine and its driving me crazy, and is happening more and more. mainly in second gear, at about 20 mph and about 2500 rpm. It feels like the turbo goes on to full boost. can be dangerous when in traffic. I am a mechanic myself and do not think this is an air leak problem. also my car has no error codes present. i was wondering whether it could be a throttle position sensor problem or MAF sensor etc.
I drive a t reg 1.9 tdi I sharan and am looking to find the weight im allowed to pull with it. I was led to believe it is 2000kg. Read more
I wouldn't have towed that with our old Disco TD5 (and that could pull a bus)
Hello,
I have read some posts on squealing wheels affecting Vauxhall vehicles but these posts were put up on the site in 2002-04.
This is my problem: after the car (Astra 1999) has been running for about 15 to 20 minutes the wheels (both front and now back although it was just the front for a while) start to squeal. The sound goes when turning to the right/left and then returns immediately the car is going straight. The sound also goes when I put the brakes on.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this is.
Thank you!

If the pads really are that low then they need replacing anyway. This would seem to be the first step and then see if the problem has disappeared. The discs also need checking, just in case.
Please advise how to locate and replace fuel filter in my 2004 c-max 1.6 tdci auto . also
can you bleed unit of water etc.
thanks in advance Notts Russ

It's a bit worrying to be asked that level of question on a common-rail. The filter is clearly visible on the bulkhead.
As you are not familiar with the necessary precautions regarding cleanliness; leave it to a diesel specialist. One tiny error and you've trashed the entire fuelling system.
I bought one of these a few years ago, and it has worked OK, but now 'runs out of puff' once presented with a solid load, say more than 300kg. It doesn't appear to have leaked, but is it worth replacing the oil and, if so, with what? Or should I just bin it and buy another, in which case, are any better than any others?
Thanks in advance, as ever.

Don't rub it in! The nearest we've got is a Lidl, who will doubtless start doing them next week...
Still, the new one has enabled me to do some maintenance that would undoubtedly have taken a lot more than half an hour of garage time, so it really hasn't cost me anything (I keep telling myself).

re this ford spec oil 5w-30 for fords 1998 on
is this 10% synthetic or more ?
also can I use a fully synthetic like Mobil 1 5w-40 that covers the Ford viscosity requirement ? and maybe a a full synthetic is a better plan ?

This is what I use in our 2003 Focus, and as far as I can see it meets the spec and does a pretty good job too.
last sunday some bloke who thinks he smart (and he is one of very many) that cut through a supermarket carpark without following the arrowed route, he shot between parked cars and used the gaps to try and exit the carpark quickly.
But someone (a nearside passenger in a parked VW) opened the passenger door just as this smart Alec was shooting through the gap from behind.
Result VW owner loses a door.
Why do some people think they are so smart in cutting through car parks like this when surely this sort of thing is likely to happen.
are these the same people who think they are good drivers ?
Note the VW owner and pasenger were no way in the wrong and as I saw the whole thing I was able to leave my details as a witness. Read more
Queue jumping in any situation is a selfish act that winds up the rule abiding majority. The arrows are put down so idiots like this can follow the correct path around the car park. If they can't heed these or any other rules, then they should surrender the right to drive. The majority find systems like this easy enough, so why shouldn't the thick few who think they have a given right to disobey the rules and get away with it. Shame on anyone that condones this behaviour.
This type of driving leads to collisions, as we have been told in the OP, and worryingly, to road rage that can escalate to the point of someone losing their life.
Aftermarket pop up sunroof seals can be lubricated with silicone oil or grease.
Factory sunroofs only have a dust/draft seal (the fuzzy felt thing) - if they are 'leaking' it probably means one or more of the drain tubes is blocked.
