Hi,
im trying to find out exactly what needs changing at 32k miles on my 2.0 diesel zetec climate tdci, is it a diesel filter? i have tried ringing my local ford garage but they aren't being helpful, they just want me to book it in, but i want to try and find somewhere cheaper to have it done, ford have quoted £276.00.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Hi,

How do i know if my car has a DPF?

My car was serviced end of Jan '08 and the mileage was approx 26k, its now 31.5k.

I think the garage was just trying to make more money out of me because at the time of the service they rang and said why not have your diesel filter changed and i asked when it should be changed and they said 32k miles and i said no way as i wasnt near 32k yet, plus the extra £276 on top of the service charge was a bit too much to stomach.

So are you saying that these filter changes should be included as part of the service cost and not an extra charge on top of the service charge?

sorry if i am asking daft questions!

Hi all,
I hope someone here can help with my locking problem.

The rear driver side door wont unlock on my laguna. I can hear the mechanism working when I press the key card but no joy. The central locking button by the hand brake does'nt unlock it either. Could it be a case of a WD40 injection or should I go to my Bank manager for a loan to get a Renault garage to sort it out??

Any help is greatly appreciated. Read more

Hi,

I know this subject has been covered at length before but I can never seem to get the forum search to work, so I'll be brief.
My friend has a 2004 607 as above, which he hasn't owned for long and the particulate filter is coming up to requiring its second servicing procedure at 160,000 miles. According to the service record it was serviced at 80,000 miles.
The 'filter clogged' warning light comes on from time to time and he naturally wants to sort it out.
He lives in France but is frequently in the UK and he has been quoted 600 pounds Sterling by a UK Peugeot dealer to replace the filter and top up the required fluid.
Is it always necessarily to replace the filter and is this price reasonable?

This car has the later ellipsoidal lights, asnd I'm being driven mad. It has the common problem of having a blown bulb, thats proving impossible to get at.

The nearside side light has blown, and even taking various bits out of the engine bay doesn't help.

The cars's handbook says its a main dealer job. My Haynes manual says remove the bumper to remove the light assembly etc. None mention what the bulb type is.

Several questions-

The bumper off route seems best, but there are three or four plastic fasteners under the bumper that I don't know how to deal with. They look like plastic discs, about the size of a 50p, with am insert in the middle. How do I get these off so that I can refit them - or do they break when removed.

I want to replace the bulb with an LED one, so once fixed it should stay fixed, for the life of the car. Can anyone recommend which bulb size to use, and a supplier ?

My hand is too big, my wifes hand is too big. We don't know any small children who could help, and my son is two months old so he can't be relied on.

Its a really minor fault, but a complete pain to repair. It says no naming and shaming, but to the designers of the Corsa (and a lot of other cars) a big thank you for nowt !!! Read more

Usual VX fitting of this type I've encountered is to push by hand the centre insert right through disc with a thin screwdriver or similar tool until the claws on the other side of the disc are no longer splayed out by the insert & don't grip the hole. The disc & insert can then be pulled out. You push the insert back up through the disc the other way to re-use it so insert sticks out yourside and doesn't splay out claws until you push insert back through until it is flush with disc again - after you've located it in the hole..... if you get what I mean!

This is a problem that has gone away on my 98 Mondeo.
At present, this is the only bulb that is failed and I have no intention of replacing it.
(It has never been mentioned when the car has had a service) :-)

Hi, bought a 1.5 DCi Clio last month& before I had a chance to get it booked in to get it checked out the cambelt snapped. Is there any chance that the valves have not been bent, or is it better to assume that they have.

Thanks.

The devil can be in the detail with equivalent parts. Check the part number of an exchange head with the dealer or someone like Ivor Searle Engines. They may know if it's the same.

My Hyundia i30 has come with one remote and one non -remote key (I have paid for one other non-remote). The spare is kept by my wife. If I lock the car up with the remote, trying to open it with a non-remote sets off the alarm. The dealer assures me this is normal, although it was not the case with my Fabia, nor is with the family Colt. Presumably this means that, unless I unlock the car with the remote and then lock it with a non-remote, my wife can't use the car in my absence.

Surely this can't be intended? It sounds absolutely daft to me but the dealer will not de-programme the keys and this would, of course, affect insurance. It is a degree of security too far.

Rather strange that the Kia Cee'd, being basically a slightly de-specced version of the i30, has two remote keys; with the only difference between trim levels being the level 2 and 3 have keys that fold, whilst the level 1 don't.

Forgot to mention earlier but I plumbed in a Freecom Networked Hard Disc Drive into my home network. This cost £80.00 from PC World - It has 250gb of storage. It connects to the ethernet or USB 2.0 socket on my BT Homehub. and then though the bundled software it took around 20 minutes to get up and running. I can access it via my Laptop or Desktop PCs and merely drag and drop music and photo/video files onto it. It can be switched off when not in use. There is software on it to automatically back up without user intervention, I won't use this until I've sussed it out !

Hi
I wonder if anyone can help, I have a 54 plate Peugeot 307 1.4 Zest and it has just been in for the safety recall, however we picked up an oil leak before hand which we asked them to check out and have now been told that it is originating from the head gasket, and a price for repair quoted as £700.00, can anyone tell me if I have a leg to stand on with Peugeot as the car is now 3 and a half years old?
Thanks very much for any help Read more

Assuming that you didn't report this inside the warranty period, Peugeot have no legal obligation.

If the car has a full dealer history, your best bet is to write to Peugeot customer services and ask them to make a contribution. Don't slag off the car, just say how disappointed you are, and how it has tainted your view of Peugeot products blah blah blah.

Otherwise, you'll have to pay up, but if this is the case, find a good independent garage rather than a Peugeot dealer. In my experience with Peugeot dealers, I wouldn't trust them to do a service correctly, never mind change a head gasket, and certainly wouldn't use them if I was paying!

If anyone reading this has a CZC let me know if the following is normal :

When I first start the car up, a blue warning light comes up and stays on until the car usually warms up. I notice there is no temperature gauge and maybe this has something to do with it....? Cant see any mention of it in the manual, however it does mention warning lights which makes me wonder whether this should not be happening?

Thanks : ) Read more

i livein a fairly rural area 8 miles from the nearest town so its a trip down the A55 either way to get anywhere so im almost always driving at 70 so that helps with getting the fuel consumption down a bit (not alot of stopping and starting)
