What is a C Turbo? - DP
Sitting in traffic this morning, a Xantia pulled up next to me. I glanced across, and something drew my eye to the badge on the front edge of the door rubbing strip identifying the engine size. It said "C Turbo"

What engine is this? Never heard of it. Seemed to shift quite well when the traffic cleared.

Cheers

150bhp turbocharged 8v Activa? Petrol, not diesel, from 97, but may have been 98 models I think.

From what I remember it is the 2.0 Petrol turbo that was used in the Activa and also the Exclusive Trim about 10 odd years ago. Don't know much about the engines, but worked for a Citroen dealership in 1998 for about 2 years. If I recall it's a light pressure turbo with about 150bhp. Don't think I sold any of that engine at the time, but had a go in the odd Activa, and it shifted pretty well. Would have loved to have one, but couldn't justify it...

Yes, it's a 2.0 light pressure turbo. Our Xantia Activa went very well with it - not too heavy a body. I believe these engines are popular with what is known as 'Puggers'. Baseball cap wearing owners of 205 GTIs who want something even quicker than a 1.9. They rip these engines out of perfectly good Xantiae or 16v engines from BX 16Vs and 405 MI16s, consigning the rest of the car to the scrap heap.

Thanks all. Can't remember the last time I saw a car and didn't know what on earth it was.

Is this the same engine used in the 406 SRi Turbo then?

The thought of a 405 Mi-16 being robbed of its engine and scrapped is highly disturbing BTW :-(

No problem DP, nice to actually know the answer to a question for once!!!

I do recall now selling a Xantia Exclusive Estate with this engine back in 1998- a beautiful car but sat in the showroom for a loooooong time before somone took the plunge!

Yes it is. I took an SRI Turbo in p/x last summer, and was very impressed with it's performance (though I don't think it was standard, as it felt more like 180-190bhp). It was in a R reg in white, looked totally standard and like any other 406, and was absolute hoot to drive. I traded it for £400, and felt a bit of a mug afterwards!

I totally agree with your sentiment about an Mi-16 btw.

I forgot to say the same engine is also found in the Citroen XM and the 605 I think.

My dad had a 2.0 turbo petrol XM estate with the auto gearbox on an M-reg.
He rates it as one of the best cars he ever owned.

Well as a resident pugger i can confirm that some people have used the 2.0 8v LPT engine in 205s however generally to get much more than the standard power it takes quite a bit of work and its also a heavy engine which ruins the fine handling of the 205.

Whilst the Mi16 engine has been the weapon of choice for 205/309 owners for many years the condition of donor engines now mean most people use the 167bhp engine out of the 306 GTI6 and Xsara VTS. It is ever so slightly heavier than the alloy MI16 engine however there are more available in good condition and also it responds very well to tuning.

But why wreck 2 cars in the process? The 205 GTi is best as it left the factory, and premature scrapping of donor cars (unless accident damaged anyway) is a waste!
