Please Help

7 months ago I purchased a Merc from a second hand car dealer, after about one month the car stated to have problems. I took the car back to the dealer to the dealer and they fixed it under the one year warrant I had when I purchased it. After a short while the problem came back "something to do with the fuel pump" anyway 7 months later they have had the car back in about 5 times and the problem is still there in toal I have been without the car for about one month. Can I have my money fully refunded or part? What is the best way to do this?

Many thanks

Chris

Before going legal have you spoke to the dealer owner about all these problems?

What type of dealer are they i.e. Main dealer or just a general used car dealer.

With this type of thing its better to use legal as a last resort.

Would they consider swapping the car for another one ?

I know you have legal rights (jbif is able to point you in right direction) but coming to an amicable arrangement is quicker ... less stressful and easier on the pocket.

Can I suggest you have an RAC inspection done on the car (costs about £165 I think)

I have an MGF ( X reg) and recently had to disconnect the battery. Now I can't find the radio code to get the radio / cd player up and running again. I have tried the previous owner to no avail and my old MG Rover garage tell me they no longer have access to the database where this information was held ( they are now a SEAT garage).
Does anyone know how I can find this number? Are there still garages around that have access to this information centrally? Is there a way of over riding it? Its the factory fitted model and I am reluctant to spend money on a fancy new radio so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I have a 2.2 dci car, and generally fill up every 550 miles, with the cost of petrol, last week, at Tesco's, it came to £84.00, so another couple of weeks and that will hit the ton, or if I'd filled up at a motorway robbery station .

I think diesel has gone up 1p per litre per week for the last 3 months personally, last night tankfull was 4p per litre dearer than the last tankfull. This is very worrying, because it means that by this reckoning, diesel will be about £1.50 a litre by christmas even in the chepest places.

When I were a lad...taxi drivers knew their way round!

Any way, who was in control of this vehicle, the driver or the nav?

We've heard of stuff like this before. People seem to think sat nav is an excuse for not looking at signs or where they're going.

No sympathy.

"The vehicle still had its engine running and headlights on, and he was sitting in it with his trousers rolled up round his knees. I shone a torch in the river and there were fish swimming around the headlights"

Anybody else wonder why if the headlights were on they had to shine a torch in to see fish around the headlights?

Poetic licence perhaps.

Saab 2003 Aero, Light came on, but car is running fine. Bought a fault code reader, but reader just says Error.
Could any one shed some light on this because I grieve paying a garage 80 smackers to tell me the code fault, if any.
Many thanks!

Neil.

As the title says really.

I got rear ended at a junction. The other party have admitted liability, which was surprisingly pleasing, although I suppose they didn't have much choice, the car was stationary when they hit me.

So all that happened rather quickly, offered hire car...asked if I was personally injured etc etc. said I don't need one and I haven't been.

I had the phone call from the 'engineer' and to say the offer is a bit low is an understatement.
I had a bodyshop estimate for the damage and they've estimated 544 labour + 130 paint and materials + parts + vat, very reasonable for a new rear bumper and new rear panel and painting to match

OK so its a very old car. 1986 Volvo 360 GLEi but its a rare model injection with air conditioning (all working and converted to R134a) and full leather and is in excellent structural condition, mainly because I spent out a lot of money a couple of years back to get all the structural rot put right and a few cosmetic things too....new front wings bumpers etc. but to put it mildly to not even want to come and look at the car and to offer me 200 gbp is frankly derisory. There are similar cars on the autotrader for 900 gbp. OK so they won't actually sell for that price, but if they'd offered me 500-600 quid then I would have accepted the offer and put it towards the cost of repair.

Now I'm tempted to not accept anything at all and demand they repair the car. I've sourced a second hand bumper for 40 quid and a new pattern rear valence for 55. The question is how much leverage do I have with the 'engineer?'

When we had our phonecall I said to him that I'm entitled to be put back into the position I was in prior to the accident. He said no that's not the case and that I only have to be financially at no loss and that he found adverts for 3 cars all selling at 150, 120 160 quid etc. The strange thing was he didn't want to give me his written address, although I managed to prise an e-mail out of him. He also said he wouldn't write to confirm the offer before I accept. Apparently you simply talk about it over the phone and then you agree and he confirms in writing...all very strange.

Its not like I ran into something...this accident wasn't my fault....what powers do I have to force them to repair the car for me or at least raise their derisory offer to something more reasonable?

Advice please and sorry for the ramble. Read more

Broke down today and a very nice man from the AA arrived in 10 minutes.
Although the engine would start and tick over there was no response from the throttle.
Turns out it was my fault, I washed it an hour earlier!
Water had somehow got into a multiplug up under the dash. The nice AA man removed the glove box and fiddled about with the multiplug and I was in my way in minutes.

My Rover 820 Vitesse Sport has developed a leak in the fuel tank.

I know this model has a high capacity fuel pump, but other than this does anyone else know if the petrol tanks on 800s are all the same (just different pumps - which I can swop over).

Also, anyone know of a source of good 2nd hand tanks - new are obsolete at dealers. Read more

Do you have a petrol or diesel 1.6 TDCi engine ?

If a diesel with a DPF then this applies -
Mobil 1 synthetic ESP 5w30 - ESP stands for Emission System Protection. This means the oil has been balanced to protect the Emission System better by reducing the amount of certain additive components that can cause premature failure of diesel particulate filters and other emission related equipment. These special low ash formulations are designed with lower levels of phosphorus and sulfur for improved emission system protection. However, Mobil 1 ESP is specifically designed for certain engines that have a diesel particulate filter or other equipment that demands this type of lubricant.

If not a diesel with a DPF then use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30.

Hello,

I recently (march) had a new clutch fitted to my 99 1.8 mondeo. It is going back the garage tomorrow so they can have a "look" and "listen", but I am just wandering if anyone has experienced the following and these are related to the clutch replacement?

1) There appears to be a oil leak on the underside of the engine where the transmission and engine meet, not a huge leak but enough to be of concern. Is this a major problem, will it require the gear box to come out again?

2)When reversing with full lock (more often to the right), as on the biting point there's a grinding noise, it sounds more like it is coming from the wheels than the clutch.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!!!
