Brand New 1.9 CDTi Exclusive Star Silver Metallic £13495
I have just been offered this car at a main Vauxhall dealer via their online website. I think it is the right model for my growing family and it has a list price of £16280 and im paying £13495 but is the model/engine any good - are there any problems with buying online (i do have to fetch it) or has anyone seen one cheaper
Thanks
Ian

I have fully comprehensive policy and ding my car a year ago. I did not get the work done immediately. Will the insurance company still cover the cost of sorting out the problem?
This year I have no claims protection will this be effected.
I am with esure
thank you Read more
to add to this, isnt it the case that when you take out another years insurance you are saying the insurance company at that point that "I'm insuring this car in its current state and consequent worth as is from now"
I wouldnt like to think that my premium is high just so people can "do up" their cars.
Just purchased A 2004 C5 2.0 16V with 30K on clock. I have only done about 100 Miles but fuel economy seems lower than i thought at about 28 MPG.
My drive to work of 15 miles each way is country roads and i hardly ever sit in traffic. I have so far used a very light foot and am not driving really hard. I have checked the air filter and it is a little dirty but nothing excessive. The lamba sensor prints from the MOT give a 1.009 i think so this looks okay. Car has not been properly serviced since 27/03/06 at 17,295 miles. I know garage fitted new rear brake pads before they sold it so they say. Oil looks fairly clean etc. Does it just need a good service. If so i may book into Voiture Technique Services in Warwick. A specialist Citroen small garage.
Otherwise the car drives and runs fine, no roughness i can see. A little rattle on acceleration from idle but i think one of the steel exhaust shield baffles maybe vibrating (a cheap fix)
A average fuel economy of any other C5 2.0 petrol would be nice.
My old Xsara 1.8 which had 101K on it did more than that. Strnage the quoted MPG are the same for both cars.

Tyre pressures OK?
Needed a cabin filter for our 2003 Honda Jazz. Never been replaced, mainly because the job is awful on this particular car due to a CD player being installed in front of the filter housing that must be removed along with all its fiddly brackets. Any how, as it was proving almost impossible to keep the windows free of conensation I had to bite the bullet.
Phoned the dealer for a base-line figure for the cost of the filter, £23. Now, I've seen a lot of vans around Sunderland with NPA Motor Factors written on the side and as the address on the vans was nearby I thought I'd give them a try. Very efficient and could get me the filter later that day, quoted £15 "but could be less". When I went back they supplied me with filter of German manufacture for £10 which fitted perfectly.
I don't know why I've mucked around going to the likes of Halfords up to now. I'm sure that NPA will be able to come up with all the disposables that I need for servicing at very fair prices. As We have 5 cars in our household and responsibility for their maintenance falls to me I think I'll save a fair amount of dosh here.
PS, I've no pecuniary interest in this business whatsoever. Read more
Oh, I don't need a trade card cos my friend Pat works there and gives a good discount anyhow.
As my wife is often taking our three grand children in her car three child seats are too wide to fit side by side in the rear.
Our eldest would be allowed in the passenger front seat on a booster seat if the air bag was deactivated.
Can any body provide a site or know manufactures who make it possible to turn off the passenger air bag without taking the car into the dealer. We remember her prevoius Fiat Punto had a switch in the car. As she is contemplating changing her car this feature would be a good advantage.

If you're after knowing what cars you can turn airbags on/off then providing there is a properly fitted child seat then you can turn the airbag off on the previous model Mazda6. But I think it "senses" the child seat being fitted somehow so must be ISOFIX or something similar??
Has anyone used this product and if so how was it please? Read more
I haven't used this product, but I have had good results with some US stuff called 'Forever Black'. It is a trim dye, not really a renovator or polish (tried those without success) and available on ebay and by post from several companies (you can google it). I saw it recommended on the Detailing World forum and paid around £10 for a bottle which would probably do the trim on 3 cars.
i have a renault laguna privalige 1.9dci on a 52 plate .the problem is when i set off it sounds like i have a hole in the exhaust.but at ideling no sound.Took it to garage he said he could not find anything wrong with it.i have read about turbo probs,no black smoke coming out of exhaust,no flat spot anyone help
{don't worry, I'll add the year & engine to the subject header, seeing as you missed the 3 requests asking to do this yourself!} Read more
I would look at the intercooler and turbo pipework. Also the alternator clutch can make a strange noise when it's on the way out. You might find the noise changes when you turn the headlights on and the alternator is under load.
Hi,
I took the PC Board out from behind my dashboard to have a look at possibly why my fuel consumption gauge per 100 km doesn't work, only to find out that the batteries on the PC board have never been changed and so had leaked out onto the board and caused some damage to it's components. Is there any chance you have a wiring diagram for this BMW (1988 - 316 M10) showing the VALUES for the resistors as well as all other components on this mainboard, i.e. IC's , diodes, capacitors as I need to purchase new ones to replace the ones that have been damaged by battery acid. Can anyone help? Read more
Thanks,
Will try there, appreciate the help.
The light is a red square, with a black bar across the top, from which an "arm" extends each side. In the centre of the red square is a smaller, black square. The whole thing is surrounded by a black border. It's flashing intermittently, but looks like it may stay on sooner or later.
Any ideas as to what this warning is please? Many thanks! Read more
Chaps,
I'm getting a little worried about the Mondeo's cooling system which is dropping some hints recently that all is not well. It has the following symptoms:
1) Slight coolant loss. As in MAX to MIN on the expansion tank every 2,500-3,000 miles or so.
2) Whiffs of hot coolant particularly at the end of a long run when parking up, and when first getting out of the car. This seems to be coming from the expansion tank area under the bonnet.
3) Temperature gauge climbs from its normal half way point to the 3/4 mark under hard acceleration, or VERY quickly in stop/start traffic. It doesn't go into the red and does drop back once settled in a cruise again. Ever since I've owned this car the gauge has remained stable, only climbing in Summer in really heavy traffic. The climbing under load is new. The rad fans seem to be working correctly.
4) Don't know if this is relevant, but I can remove the expansion tank cap with the engine hot and there's not so much as a hiss - like the cooling system is not pressurising. The cap was replaced about a year ago, as I had the odd coolant whiff (but not the other symptoms) and the "no pressure" phenomenon when opening the cap.
The engine is running perfectly (or seems to be), starts on the key from cold, and has negligible oil consumption. The coolant itself is translucent red with no crud or oily deposits in the expansion tank. There are no puddles under the car or steam escaping anywhere to indicate a leak. There is also no sign of mayonnaise inside the oil filler or on the dipstick.
The water pump was replaced 20,000 miles ago when I did the timing belts, and the thermostat is a recent replacement (Genuine Ford item) which I did when this started happening. It's made no difference. For what it's worth there is a healthy looking flow of coolant from the return hose on the top of the expansion tank which gets stronger with revs.
Any suggestions gratefully received. I don't want to cook the engine or get stranded and would rather nip any problem in the bud now. The car has done 141,000 miles and has always been superbly reliable.
Cheers as always!

Same again on the way home tonight. Settled at the half way point and fluctuated maybe a needle's width either side.
Quietly optimistic now.
Cheers

What a numty!
Sorry I just realised that I was referring to Vectra Exclusiv, whereas this post was all about the Zafira (which is a new model I think following facelift).
