I have fully comprehensive policy and ding my car a year ago. I did not get the work done immediately. Will the insurance company still cover the cost of sorting out the problem?
This year I have no claims protection will this be effected.
I am with esure
thank you

The claim form asks when you had the bump. If you tell the truth, which you should, the it will be deemed outwith "your current protected NCB". If you do not tell the truth then your protected NCB will hold - that is not to say your premium wil not go up next year - the NCB will stand but in view of your claim the gross premium and therefore net premium will go up.
If it is a dind and not a bump why not get the Dentmaster type people to ahve a look - they can "iron out" dings and typically cost £60 for a panel!

I thought insurance cover was for protecting you and your car during the current year of insurance?
Surely claiming for old damage that occured a year ago (so potentially under another policy period) is like me claiming for "renovating" my car because it has a few dents and scratches however caused?

to add to this, isnt it the case that when you take out another years insurance you are saying the insurance company at that point that "I'm insuring this car in its current state and consequent worth as is from now"
I wouldnt like to think that my premium is high just so people can "do up" their cars.
