We have a 1999 Lanos & both wiper arms are 'sloppy'. On inspection, the bush assy' that the wiper spline comes through are very badly worn.
I would like to buy new & wondered if anybody knows a good source for parts?

Try a Chevrolet dealer; can't see anywhere else doing them.

My Son bought a P reg 4.0ltr Range Rover last week, yesterday he was driving the car when it suddenly stopped, all the coolant was lost from the bottom of the radiator, on inspection the radiator had burst at the bottom seam, the car is now at a garage waiting for another radiator to arrive. My first thought was that the head gasket has blown and pressurised the system, which has caused the radiator to fail, any other thoughts? also if there are any range rover experts amongst you what would the garage need to check before the head gasket is suspected? the car has a gas conversion installed.
many thanks.

Oh dear. LPG Rover V8s eat head gaskets; they corrode away on the second cylinder back on each bank. Often, they blow right through to the outside of the block.

The alloy radiators aren't exactly the best either. When you put the two together....

Get the garage to fit a new rad and then take it for a good drive; when they get back, sniff the header tank for hydrocarbons with a gas analyser.

I have been driving a Volvo S80 and was looking for a replacement diesel estate. Thanks to your site, I researched the Honda Accord CDTi, its price of services/parts/tyres, insurance, etc.

The Honda seemed to fit the bill. However, it did not fit in another way: I went to a local dealer and asked to have a look around one.

The small clearance between the driver's seat and the roof meant that my head was pressing against the roof and my eyes were level with the bottom of the sun visor even when the seat was at its lowest. (Magnificent view of the bonnet through the tinting windscreen)

I am only 6 foot tall with 31 inch inside leg (Hope this isn't too much information) so it should fit.

Would be buyers over 6 foot would be well advised to have a sit in the CDTi before even considering looking into other details.

Having said that, if anyone out there knows better than the salesman* how to lower the seat further, I'd be glad to hear. And if you do, consider yourself one up on Honda Technical Dept., who were "out for the day".

Xvolvo. This surprises me. I am almost 6 feet tall and when I recently hired a 2.4 Honda Accord automatic in Cape Town my head didn't touch the ceiling. I know people are all different shapes and sizes, and different Honda Accords in different countries may have different fittings. A while back when I sat in the drivers seat of the Lexus IS 250 it felt incredibly comfortable, but my head was near the ceiling.

Does anyone remember the yellow Lyons cakes sign that was nailed to a tree next to the M62, just before the Boothferry bridge, heading eastbound?

We used to see it when motoring in that direction a long time ago and now the tree is quite deteriorated as a result of the nails.

When did that sign first appear? It became a landmark in its own right I think.

Who remembers it and what were you driving at the time?

According to the increasingly tabloid snip, our government in its infinite wisdom is considering introducing random roadside breath testing - not quite random actually, but almost - to reduce the number of completely plastered drivers on the road. I must say I don't see many actually, and when I do see them they are never being stopped.

I wonder if there is any possibility of bringing assault charges when one is stopped for no good reason and made to blow into a tube in front of everyone? It's a bit like having your papers roughly demanded by some louche bunch of foreign fuzz. A bit of an imposition to put it mildly.

I never drive drunk these days. But how is one to ensure that one is never nudging some arbitrary pre-set one-size-fits-all blood alcohol level, except by being a party pooper? I'm not really enjoying the future much.

Yes PhilW, the rugby club was the centre of social life when I was younger , my school was the rugby playing feeder for the town club and the best way to get an ( underage) drink was to invest two bob (10 p for you backroom youngsters) in one pint after the match to go with your pie and peas supper , drink a half and then wait for the captain or president to come round and top up from the four pint jug they had bought .

Then getting involved in a boat race...

I recall returning home at 2 am when about 15 ( driven by a mate who had had at least six pints to my knowledge ) and lying on the floor in a dishevelled state with the ceiling spinning...

I am not advocating a return to those days of forty plus years ago - that friend ( a local farmers son ) was again drunk a couple of years later when he hit the back of a lorry on the old AI and was decapitated....

Hi all,

This is my first post and I wanted to get people's opinions on whether the quote I have just got from MasterFit for my Astra is about right?

I went in and asked them to look at a leak for me, the estimate has come back with:
Rear spring remove replace - Qty (which I'm guessing is hours) 0.5 - NET: 42.98
Sump gasket Replace - Qty: 1.5 - NET: 128.93
G/Box Gasket - Qty: 1 - NET: 85.95
Drive Shaft Seal O/S - Qty: 0.7 - NET: 60.17

PARTS USED
Set-Rear Springs - Qty: 1 - NET: 151.00
NSI Locking Compund - Qty: 1 - NET: 8.50
NSI Gasket - Qty: 1 - NET: 4.48
NSI Seal Ring - Qty: 1 - NET: 6.45

TOTAL:
NET - 488.46
VAT - 85.48
TOTAL - 573.94

What's really annoyed me is that I have just had it serviced and MOT, which it passed, at an independent place and it passed first time. It was here they said about the leak and that Vauxhall had to do it because of a tool they need. No mention of the springs at all.

On top of that, they charged me £50 for telling me this, without doing any work. Now Is this them being very steep and annoying the hell out of me, or is £85.95 an hour a fair reflection?

If not, who can suggest a dealer in Hertordshire I can get another quote off?

p.s. - if you haven't guessed, I'm not a happy bunny!!!

Your view and VOSA's view are diametrically opposed.

A brief inspection of their website appears to indicate that my and their views are not "diametrically opposed", but in fact similar.
