The boot in the mondy has started letting in water after heavy rain. Seems to be coming in from the top (i.e. not splashed up from below) and I'm suspecting that the wiring grommet to the left of the boot rim may have perished allowing rainwater into the boot..
Has anyone had any experience of this? Also, if it is the grommet - what is the best/cheapest way to seal it?

As some of you know, I am getting the engine replaced on my mondeo.
How long would it normally take to source and fit one?
The garage I have doing it has had the car for a week and they are still trying to find a suitable engine. He has said he has the feelers out but is still awaiting to hear.
Once they have it how long would it take to fit?
Is it reasobale to wait a week to source it? Read more
Hi
Looking for any pointers on the following
My friends car is jumping out of 2nd gear going around corners.I've been told this is the only gear that it happens on.The car is an R -reg (1997) and is the 1.1 model.
Thanks in advance Read more
Firsth thing to check, or have checked is the gear linkage and the engine and gearbox mountings. Regards Peter
My 1.6 petrol (85000 mls) due a service, got all the bits, was starting to misfire initially when cold but soon was ok, and rpm was about 1200 till it warmed up - not normal. Oh, and rear box is starting to sound a bit blowey ...
Wife drove 90 miles on motorway "and there was a warning light on all the time".
Turns out it was the engine warning light... I checked oil which was low-ish, topped up, started engine , warning light stays on.
I searched the forum and noticed references to coilpack.
So the warning light could be anything, but based on the above and other experiences does anyone have a suggestion?
Only good thing is 5th gear is highly geared, so doing 70 it's only about 2500 rpm , yet SWMBO tends to hold it in the lower gears .. ;-) Read more
Fault code was engine misfire - it was the plugs. I had a set on the back seat ... !
A bit of a bar-room discussion led to this:
If you're stopped by the police (randomly or otherwise) and you fail a road-side breath test what happens to your car?
1) does a policeman drive it to the station you're taken to or is it left at the roadside?
2) if it's left at the roadside does that mean it may be left on a motorway hard shoulder - how do you recover it?
3) do the police have unlimited insurance cover ie what if you were driving a Veyron and not a £200 banger?
4) what if you pass the breathtest at the station and it transpires the roadside tester was defective (you had had no alcohol at all) - are they obliged to take you back to your car or if it was lifted waive storage charges?
I'm sure there are other issues but this'll do for starters. Read more
My brother was in a Ford Fiesta recently with a drunk mate doing the driving and the Police swooped on the Felling bypass and arrested the driver (acting on a tipoff we reckon), the car was abandoned at the side of the road and the 5 passengers (yes, 5, one was in the boot!) were kicked out and made to walk home to Newcastle!
I have a 2002 Ford Mondeo Ghia X V6 which is showing the following fault codes
P0133, P0153, P0302, P1000, P1519 (see P2006).
In terms of its actual performance, it does jerk at times especially if one comes from high speed then slows down and then tries to accelerate again. In addition, overtaking is a hit or miss affair as the engine revs sometimes will shoot up without a corresponding increase in speed, a rather frightening prospect when on a single carriageway.
Can you help?

The intake runner control is the most obvious candidate there. It's on the inlet manifold and controls the internal flaps.
The oxy sensor codes are a bit wishy-washy; the misfire code is self-explanatory and P1000 appears every time you wipe the codes until the car has completed a full drive cycle.
Virtually all modern cars require these infernal ECUs' to be interogated using a diagnostic tool when the MIL illuminates on the dashboard. My questions are: what is the difference, if any, between a 'code reader' and a 'diagnostic tool'? I have read that in 2001, due to legislation in the USA aimed at reducing emissions, all codes had to be standardized, is this so? Are the codes universal to all manufacturers? Would a hand held tool costing £80ish be sufficient for the DIY mechanic like me? Would any diagnostic tool suffice? because the spread of prices seems bewildering. Basically, I wanna do it myself.

so whats the link for? Is this an advert? {If it was, it's now been deleted. DD}
Some codes are standard. Manufacturers also have their own, its in the documentation.
The difference between a code reader and a diag tool is that a code reader will read the engine fault codes.
There are far more ecus than just the main engine one. A good diag tool will deal with all the systems in a car. and often offer real time data rather than fault codes only.
As to which you need, depends what you want. Vag-Com were developing a bmw tool.
I have an old-style Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia which I bought as an unregistered import from Motorpoint in 2005 - it is registered on an 05 plate.
I recently went to my local Ford dealer to test drive a new Mondeo.
When enquiring about my car as a part-ex I was offered £4400 for it & the salesman told me that if it was a UK car I would have been offered £5200 & that this is standard for imports.
Can anyone tell me if this is true or was the salesman pulling a fast one?
Sorry if this has been asked before but this is my 1st post on the forum.
Greetings all !!

I agree with Adverse Camber
"And if you were a broker, you'd be selling me an identical car for £x,000 less, so what can you do for me?" would be my natural response to his comment about your PX value.

Bit of a long shot this. Need new battery for my Accord Tourer (2003) - bought a Bosch from Costco tonight - book did not show an entry for the tourer so took a standard Accord one. This does not fit in the space (too big) - don't suppose anyone knows which battery I need? Would prefer to get a Bosch as have been happy with them in past. Done some searching on net and no site seems to show the Tourer, just the old Aerodecks.
All help appreciated. Read more
Went to Honda in the end - reasonably good value surprisingly (and, yes, I know the last Honda one didn't last as long as some!)
the car fills with water on the drivers side both front and rear in heavy rain. you do not have to drive the car for it to fill with water. it lets in so much water that the footwells have puddles in them. any ideas what is wrong? Read more
I have got a X reg Astra estate which is letting in water into the drivers side front well.
I have tried a water hose over the doors and windscreen water drains away ok no leaks on the interior, the only thing I did notice was water was draining down the centre windscreen wiper shaft but not on the outer one should this happen?
I have spoken to other people two have said there problem was the windscreen seal bodywork was rusty and was letting water in the other said the seal had gone.

Hi,
I think it's the washer nozzle seal. I may have fixed mine by twisting it into a better position.
