I need to book a hotel near to Gatwick airport for the end of August. I need a room for the night in preparation for an early flight and two weeks (very secure) parking at the same place. Ideally, a transfer to the airport should be included if necessary.
Any recommendations appreciated . Read more

Can you please help me. The central locking, in car lights have gone, my clock has turned off and then come back on and my stereo cuts out. I have looked at the fuses and cant seem to find anything wrong with the. I (brought ???) bought a brand new battery and that has done nothing.
Post completely re-written to eliminate shouting, text talk, lack of model year and engine detail and bring into line with some semblance of English language norms. Some assumptions made - What does "BK" mean for instance ? I assume you've purchased a battery and didn't bring it from somewhere??. Sorry if my tirade seems rude to you but you could have read the small print before posting. Read more
Have you checked the fuses beside the battery?
Do you have access to a multi-meter - if so check for 12v at the circuit breakers within the fuse panel on the dash. - there's a circular one to the left of the fusebox with a hole in the top you can poke a probe through, with the ignition on there should be 12v there. To the right there are two pink rectangular large fuses, flip off the clip-on clear cover and check for 12v on them too.
Has any work been done to the car lately?
Car newly bought. Cruise control doesn't work. No response to steering wheel controls.
Small "BM specialist" garage has been trying to identify fault for
4/5 weeks and "consulting experts." But no progress. Any suggestions.

Might be looking at a newer car for the daughter tomorrow.
What would I be looking at, roughly, for part exchange for this Corsa for a 51 plate Fiesta (2,995).
Vauxhall Corsa, 2001, 3 door, 1.0L, 66k, s/h. Car runs well but there is some damage, nothing major i.e: alloys scuffed, rear plastic wheel arch missing, back of drivers wing mirror broken off. Inside is scraches on the steering wheel (one of her sold called mates done that wife a knife), scuffs on the corner of bumpers.
Incase you was wondering how she got a car into this mess.... this was her first car. Read more

We have a car here in Africa that a customer imported from UK so different to our normal specs. however the brakes are giving a typical ABS pulsing sensation when braking at slow speeds (Brake and clutch together type speeds) and there is a significant grating noise as the vehicle stops. We cannot see any signs of grinding on discs etc and have already replaced ABS wheel sensors, ABS ECU and ABS unit plus replaced the servo (Which on this model is on LHS of bulkhead). The car had a minor accident some months ago but all seems aligned OK. We cannot u/stand why the ABS unit pulses at such slow braking speeds on ordinary roads.

Yes; professional kit - i.e. not from e-bay.....
Most garages can do/arrange this now.
You all know it is WRONG to use a mobile when driving (motoring connection PU) but are yopu aware of the following just circulated amongst Old Plods:
4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
FIRST Emergency
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.
SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to
drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!"
THIRD Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.
FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone! * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Don't UK phones convert 999 to 112?
no is the short answer, its a bit more complicated tho
Some while ago (2002/3?) there was a thread about some new Mercs on sale in one of the big Car Supermarkets(Trade Sales at Slough?)
They were assembled in India and I believe they were E220s in white - at a time when the E220 was not sold in UK or even Europe. They were riduculously cheap - £10k ?? I was tempted to buy and other BR members also expressed interest.
Anyway I can't find the thread on search.
Does anyone have any further details please, and in particular any info about their resale value and how reliable they have been. Read more
To give you some history on those w124's. Mercedes came into India with Tata's and made a huge tactical error in launching the w124 a few months after launching the w210 globally. They forgot the fact that the person who could afford to buy a merc also travels a lot.
Cars were either E220 or E250 in black, white, blue or silver / manual or auto. That, along with a recession during the late '90's led to a larg inventory. Some came via trade sales. A lot went of diesels went to Singapore to be used as taxi's.
To cut a long story short, Mercedes took full control and launched the locally assembled S class - something radical - it changed the image of the company as people clearly got the message that Mercedes will now sell up to date cars and such a sophisticared car was never availalble officially before
India assembles - C200K,C220D, E280E E280cdi, S350L, S320D
They will import anything else at a csot!
Just said I'd put this out there. Its regarding my fathers 06 Focus 1.6 Ghia. A few weeks ago it was in for a service at the main dealer. It also needed a warranty job done which replaced a relay for the front heated windscreen. The dealer said this was the first such relay they can recall replacing on this type of car and as a result it took them a few minutes to find it. Everything seemed fine - job done - until the next time my father needed to use the windscreen and noticed it still wasnt working. There was also a loud clicking noise coming from under the bonnet when the heated windscreen was being used which could only be heard when standing outside the car. Since then the bluetooth/voice control function has stopped working altogether. I have tried a search for the car on a few different phones and none show it.
My question realy is are these two systems related and as a result could this be just one problem or are they seperate. The reason I am asking is the car came with a 2 year warranty from new (I live in ROI) and the warranty is just up. The heated windscreen problem has been reported before the warranty expiry date but the bluetooth problem has yet to be reported to the dealer so my father could be left with a rather hefty bill to geth this sorted.
Cheers and sorry for the long drawn out story,

Why not get the windscreen problem sorted first and see if that helps the other one? This sounds like a bad earth somewhere.
Hi,
First time poster here. I own a 2000 Toyota Corrolla 1.4 petrol hatchback. ( Like this one www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index...r&carID=887757 ). Its only got 50,000miles on it.
Anyway, this is my problem. When I turn the key to start the engine, I get to the stage where the lights come on on the dash but the enigne just won't start/"click in". I leave it for a second or two then try again and 90% of the time it'll start then. I never have to try more than 3 times. The puzzling thing is if I drive around for a while, park the car for a few hours and try again it will start straight away without any problems
I brought it to a mechanic 2 weeks who said that the key barrel needs replacing. Its going to cost ?400 ($550/£300) and I need to tell him by Thursday.
I would appreciate your advice. I've checked a few sites and there are mixed reports..

Then you need to know if voltage appears on the terminal that excites the starter. [Possibly black/white wire?]
Yes - it's likely the starter. No - it's likely the switch.

Where is home - roughly?
I am thinking it might be cheaper to use a friendly local airport car service (cough).
