If you leave the country with it,you can't reclaim until it is registered in another country-however,if someone else is exporting it,no problem.

I bought spare keys for my current Focus from a franchised dealer and they were

Something thathad escaped my notice, but due to go up 2p /ltr, but the haulage industry calling for it to be scraped. I think this is going to hurt a lot of people, certainly going to be unpleasant for myself.

At the end of the last fuel strike, Bliar admitted what we had all known since time began...that the fuel taxes were not for looking after roads and the transport infra structure but were primary for throwing in the pot and wasting on Britans biggest white elephant, the NHS.

A mouse built a small nest under the bonnet of a car that I do not use everyday and has caused some minor damage by eating some wiring. I would like to make sure they do not come back - has anyone got experience of the high frequency sound devices that plug into the mains? Do they work? Read more

The JML pest shield is promoted incessantly via a DVD/TV combo in WH Smith by my office. With a bit of effort I could recount the add verbatim!!

Also deals with cockroaches, but as it affects the central nervous system don't use it near hamsters, Guinea pigs etc.

Makes a change from the dryer balls in the previous promotion.

A good friend is finally dumping his Cavalier after 175,000 miles. Mostly used for urban, outer London driving, plus around 6 Dorset trips a year. He's best described as a sprightly pensioner!

He's looking at the Focus 1, 2003/04 but I can't advise on which engine would be most reliable and work best with an automatic box, which he wants. Economy and reliability are the priorities.

Is the 2.0L much more thirsty? Would a less punchy 1.6L safeguard the gearbox better? Read more

Dear All,

I am going on a short trip on a P&O liner from S/hampton in September and thought, despite some advice to the contrary, to leave the car at the docks, F.O.C. I presume that one leaves the keys. Do cars get moved around by the staff? That in itself does not unduly bother me, but the old Merc' has got what can only be described as an alarm system with half a mind of it's own and I don't want to return to a flat battery with all the attendant problems.

Best regards........MD Read more

When I was working out of the docks (container work) you would often see the cars being parked up, From what I remember they park them for you, but that may well have changed, it has been a good couple of years since I last worked in there!!

Having parked the car on friday for a morning in the office I returned to it to find a police car and three tow trucks some nice person who the police have yet to apprehend although they know who he is decided to use his brothers car and ran into three parked cars, all three plus the car he was driving are now scrap so I have now to go through all the insurance and legal stuff.I have put the car on SORN now got to spend a day going to local tax office to get the personnel plate put on redemption.I can't keep a car when I want I had really fallen in love with it having done the brakes ,cam belt and head gasget with the intention of keeping it.So I spent Saturday trying to find a 75 tourer or ZTT that was in the same condition and same low miles mission impossible people were wanting 5k for rough high milers and as there are none coming in from lease I gave up and bought a two year old Signum 2.2 elegance from my usual source plus I have got a dose of flu its not been my weekend.I got a Chevrolet lancetta as a hire car it is horrible I am glad it goes back today. Bad news Andy, the 75 was a 1.8 IIRC, the 2.2 Sig will feel much more punchy though far less characterful, must say I would quite like a 75 estate or ZT-T though it would have to be a diesel or 2.5 V6, even the 1.8T I drove a couple of years ago was no ball of fire.

Hello.

The Lexus dealer in the UAE uses a 20w by 50 oil for oil change yet the handbook states this can be used, the handbook also states that the best all round oil to use is a 5W by 30. Given the very hot climate of the UAE avg year round temp of 30 - 35c with a summer average of 40c and dusty conditions is it wise to use the 20w by 50w or a different oil, will a 20w by 50 be more stable at higher temperatures. Is 20w 50 synthetic or part synthetic? The dealer currently uses Castrol and previously used BP Visco.

Thanks for any replies.

Rgds.

i,m no expert but it does make sense to use a thicker oil in such a hot climate there.s a good piece on oil viscocity at the top of this page. a reputable oil manufacturer should also know the best viscocity for your car.

If the wiring has been damaged - or even fried - by amateur bodgery; then the problem is only going to be found by thorough checking of all the various circuits and earth points - and that's a job for an expert auto-sparks.

Somewhere in that near-unintelligible single sentence there was something about a heated rear window, so check the loom into the tailgate for broken wires.

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently conducting a survey on the commute to work and would appreciate it if anyone would like to take part in my survey. Should take 10 mins, although had to put a estimate time of 20 mins to be on the safe side. The link in the text to follow.

The Commuting Experience and Psychological Flow

Information for Participants

My name is Daniel Phipps and I am a third year psychology student from Nottingham Trent University. As part of my degree I am required to conduct a psychology research study which is an online questionnaire.

I am conducting a questionnaire study about the working persons? daily commute to work and the types of activities people take part in on their commute, focussing on psychological flow. I am only looking at the journey to work you experienced today. I am looking at 3 types of transport in the commute; car, bus and train only. There will be questions on the conditions of the commute to work, the types of activities people take part in on their commute, feelings on how the commute went and whether people go into a psychological flow state on their commute.

Psychological flow is a mental state in which the person is fully immersed in what they are doing, characterized by a feeling of focused energy and success in the process of the activity.

How bizarre. Whatever that was testing was nothing to do with the commuting part. I wonder whether he is still collating information.
